I can't get the template links to open, any advise there?
@jkmwoodworking23 сағат бұрын
Unfortunately, I don't have the templates for sale. I'm just a hobbyist, and not setup to sell things. The files are specifically for use with the Lightburn software. If you click on the link, it will try to open in a web browser, and look like a bunch of computer code. After opening, then click the "download" button in your browser and it will copy the file to your computer. Then you can open that file in the Lightburn software.

I bought the WEN planer with the helical cutter...stock comes out glass smooth and snipe free...at half the price of the Dewalt...good enough for me!

Your summary sheet was wrong - you had the DeWalt Maple as big chip at 96, good 179. Your testing was the obvious - the 96 was good on the maple, with chipping at the 179. Doesn’t change results much, unless you intend to plane Maple.

I’ve had same when for a few years and it’s rather great. But having not a fantastic dust collection system in my shop I wonder if the blower in the dewalt would make a big difference sending the chips out. I don’t believe when has one of those..

I agree, that the Dewalt dust blower is a bit of an advantage!

The fact that you're not using a clean filter for the box fan invalidates your experiment results. You should have run the test with a brand new filter.

i haven't put together my sled yet. But i got the same 20mm cross rails, and weight of my 3.25hp bosch is too unstable. Just lightly touching it will easily twist the whole sled which would cause the bit to gouge sideways. So before i even try use it, i'll get the sbr 20 rail which i assume is much more rigid
@jeffreyjbyron28 күн бұрын
Hi thanks for the video! I was planning on building this exact sled, but I'm worried that these cross rails might not be perfectly straight, or might have some give in them with a 2.3hp router on them. I'm considering using the same rails as the sides, with the rigid aluminum, as my cross rails. Price is about the same and there would be extra rigidity. Any thoughts on this? Am I worried about a non-issue? My sled would be more than 41" wide....
@jkmwoodworking27 күн бұрын
I actually think that the cross rails on my sled are straighter and more rigid than the side rails. The cross rails that I used are a larger diameter than the side rails. What you say will also work fine.
@tazblink28 күн бұрын
Why did you trim to a width of 11.25"? Rail slide space or more ridged just wondering? I am about to cut my plastic and was curious why you didn't leave it at 12". Maybe I miss understood are all the peases 11.25 or the combined leanth of all 3 11.25? Thanks for any info.
@jkmwoodworking27 күн бұрын
I trimmed it to keep the cross rails as close to each other as possible, still leaving just enough space for my router. With the cross rails close together, then it maximizes the lengthwise capacity of the sled. Granted, 3/4" really wouldn't make much difference, and so would have been just fine to leave at the original 12" length and save a cut. I did trim all 3 pieces to the same length of 11.25.

@jkmwoodworking29 күн бұрын
That lever came with the side rails that I purchased. I put a link in the description to the specific side rails that come with the lever.
@GreyMaulkin27 күн бұрын
@jkmwoodworking thank you, I didn't notice that. Sadly, that package is not available on the Canadian version of Amazon, so my side rails didn't come with them and I'll have to buy the separately. I don't know what that lever is called...

these jointers are good for wood stock no longer than the base also they will bog down with pieces wider than 4 " If you don't have room for a real jointer for longer stock its better to use a planner with a sled and shim technique

So I can move the DW735 around.. but it IS heavy. So I bought a stand for it. What I decided to get was the Dewalt DW7440RS stand ($180 on amazon). It doesn't match up perfectly.. so I read a few comments elsewhere about putting some ply on the two removable arms, then mount the DW735 to that. However, I found even with my scrap birch ply it was still a little low. So I set up some 2x4s on top of the ply, and for now used some thick long screws (with socket wrench head, not philips) to mount thru the 2x4 and in to the ply. I glued those down as well to add a little more strength. Even so, I see there is an area I can run a strap under the unit around the two arms that attach to the stand. So I plan on doing that for one more bit of holding power so when I put the stand in vertical mode to move it, the unit will hopefully not come off despite bolted to 2x4 and ply and glued down. Just worried the weight of it going from upright mode to vertical 90 degrees will come loose.

Great video! Would you recommend this planer or the Wahuda 13" two-speed planer? I've been looking for a planer for some time and singled it down to these two. I'm curious to see which you would recommend.
@jkmwoodworkingАй бұрын
I've not used specifically the Wahuda planer, although I've used the Cutech 2 speed planer which I believe is the same design, and made by the same company (just branded differently) so my comments are in that context. Here is my opinion... I'm a big fan of the Cutech/Wahuda 4 screw post depth adjustment mechanism, and what they claim is a patent on that design that prevents you from having to lock the carriage and yet still minimizes snipe. And at the same time, I wasn't impressed with the chain slack causing jerkiness in the Find-buy-tool depth adjustment mechanism. So that would sway me towards the Cutech/Wahuda in a big way. There is a real advantage that the Find-buy-tool helical cutterhead has in quality of cut for difficult (figured grain) workpieces, and that is where it may be better than Cutech/Wahuda. Although, for most workpieces with straight grain (90% of what I do), the Cutech/Wahuda will give an equally good cut as a helical head. It is only for figured grain workpieces that I notice such a difference. Sorry that isn't a clear definitive answer on which is best, but I hope is some helpful info.

There are quite a few bad reviews on Amazon that have made me weary of Wahuda. You upgraded from the Wen though so I'm assuming you're finding it better? Other comments say that maybe there's a newer model that fixes some of the alignment issues on Amazon. Would love your thoughts!
@jkmwoodworkingАй бұрын
I believe Cutech has a few differences from Wahuda, and I haven't used a Wahuda jointer myself so I'm not sure about it's problems. I've been extremely happy with Cutech, and do think it is much better than the WEN jointer that I had before. I believe that I have the newest model of Cutech.
