@Mike Everly - This is an absolutely brilliant mini-documentary from the Mike Reed Show. Thank you so much! 🤗

@Mike Everly - Title? "Polk Salad Annie" - is that documented? As a Southerner, we never waste leftovers. Any food too minimal for a full meal becomes either a soup or a salad. Hence, "Pork (po'k) Salad Annie." Translation: "That li'l gal Annie sho do make a mean po'k salad." Does anyone know the history?

I’m sure Don and Phil were glad to get the money and the TV exposure but they must have been cringing inside when they did that little routine.
@mikebrambles997411 ай бұрын
@cak813 I have no doubt about it, although, they never took themselves too seriously like a lot of other artistes did/do. They were brought up from a very young age performing on radio with their parents, which included comedy sketches. Both Don & Phil had a great sense of humour, and their voices, well, what can I say, absolutley the best of the best...
@cak81311 ай бұрын
@@mikebrambles9974 I was just saying something very similar to someone on Facebook. They both had great senses of humor and I’m sure that helped them get through some of the tougher times.

If you get to perform with Dean Martin, that's pretty much the pinnacle of show business, so I think they were probably happy with the gig.
@cak81310 ай бұрын
@@prestonbealle8632 I’m sure they were happy about being on his show but the Everlys were a self-contained act. When they guested, they had to perform with Trini Lopez, Steve Lawrence, Dean Martin, and I’m sure there were more. Maybe it’s just me but I always found it cringe-worthy.

Mike what a beautiful rendition! This song is so sad and poignant and heartfelt. It's funny how songs as well as other art - the eye of the beholder type of thing - can mean so many different things to so many different people. Maybe even different things to the same person at different times. This song sounds like it's between people who were in love with each other and things weren't working out.. That's the obvious meaning of the song. But it can mean anything to anyone. I find it meaning a lot to me with a certain family member who I love with all my heart that I feel has a lot of bad misunderstandings right now. It truly touched my heart in a very good way. And that just the right time. Thank you for sharing this. ♥️😘🙏♥️

Thanks, Charmaine. When I first heard the original version of this song, it was on KZbin, including a video. In one section of the video, it showed an elderly woman laying in a hospital bed, asleep. Her husband was at her side holding her hand. He eventually got on the bed and lay by her side. He had tears in his eyes, as though he was saying goodbye to her. It was at this point of the song that really hit home to me and made me shed a tear also. We never know when we are going to lose our loved ones. Such a beautiful, heart rendering song, I just had to record it myself 😢
