I also use the vocoder to record my voice. There is a way to have multiple effects. Once you've recorded whatever you like to record using the vocoder, you can record from one tract to another (by muting the onces you do not need) and use a master effect. So, if you have someting on track 1,2 and 3 and you want an additional effect on what you have on track 1. Mute track 2 and 3. Select in recording (shift microphone) OUT-IN. Go to track 4 on your tape, press the mixer button. Press shift-3 and select your effect (you can press play to hear the effect on what you have on track 1). One done, go to tape. Make sure (again) you're on track 4. Press the microphone again to enable OUT-IN (if not enabled yet) and start to record track one with an effect to track 4. After you can always lift track 4 and replace track 1 by dropping it. You can do this multiple time to stack multiple effects or mixer settings on the tape.

@@Giovanni1a I love this! Thanks for contributing!! This process is the part of the op1 that frustrates people the most. The instrument seems to be designed for more of an instinctive approach. Once you go beyond that, it gets pretty difficult to achieve things that you could do so easily on other machines. Because you have to jump through so many hoops with the risk of damaging or losing the original audio, gives it a certain character that no other process could give it. I think that’s where the magic is.
@Giovanni1a6 күн бұрын
@@NovakTheEnjoyer Great video btw. To cope with the lack of undo, I always setup my "baseline" of a song in one tape (no overdubbing) and after clone this tape to get to work. Once I've made something I really need/like to keep. I lift it from the tape and drop it in my initial (backup) tape. This means that if I make a mistake I can always revert back to the original without the lack of having to startover again.

How ya been, man? I dig the vibes. Still dreaming of upgrading to the field XD! Huh, I see you're sending the mix into the OP1f. That's cool. Would you purchase a TX6 again, having used it now? What are your thoughts on the TP7? (Why is the sky blue? What is the meaning of life? and more questions..)
@NovakTheEnjoyer22 күн бұрын
Hey dude! The TP-7 and the OP-1 Field are the same price on Reverb, around $1500 each. This makes no sense to me. The TP-7 is a dictaphone, while the OP1F is a full fledged studio. I think the TP-7 is a shiny toy that doesn’t really do much. At least not for me, and not for that price. It beautiful! Just not functional. The TX-6…. If you’re not playing or recording more than one instrument at a time, I don’t understand why you would buy it. It does beat taking a big audio interface around with you if you’re a laptop musician, and it’s a beautiful object, but there are cheaper options out there. If the looper was actually functional, I’d say maybe. Currently, you can only play one loop at a time. I don’t understand why they didn’t make it capable to play a loop per track so that you could actually build out a song on it. I was hopeful for an update, but I don’t think TE is in the business of actively updating the software of its products, so I don’t even think about it. Just a paper weight at this point TBH. Neither of these pieces expand the capabilities of the OP1F in any meaningful way for me 🤷🏻♂️.

Dude, when you say you lift and drop/copy the main melody are you then copying it left and right in that stereo cream pie field you were talking about? Thanks for the time code, and thanks for watching! I never copy/paste parts for splitting. I always perform the second take. When you copy/paste a part for stereo, it has a terrible phasing quality to it that just doesn't give you a nice stereo effect. In this situation I use a guitar as an example. 1. Record guitar part to one side (Tape Screen - SHIFT + Turn Red Knob before recording to pan Left or Right) and then record the part. 2. Lift (Copy) guitar part to have it in the buffer incase you screw up the second take. 3. Drop the drop that take back down so you have it on the tape. 4. Tape Screen - (SHIFT + Turn Red Knob to pan the opposite side) 5. Record (overdub) same part again to the other side creating a thick and creamy goodness If that second take doesn't go well and messes the whole thing up, you can always just re-drop the first take (because it's sitting in your buffer) and retry the second take. Otherwise, if you scrap everything you'll need to keep recording the first take over again too, and at that point I'm ready to blow my brains out. I hope that clears it up a bit for you! Otherwise you can just use a DAW and save yourself all the hassle and headaches, lol. Thanks again for hanging out!

11:11 no way the voice recording was done that far away with the internal mic?! also: how'd you process the voice recording without the op1 having insert effects? theres clearly some reverb on the final audio
@NovakTheEnjoyer29 күн бұрын
Hey, thanks for watching! When it comes to using the microphone, I never record straight to tape. Instead, I use the vocoder which gives you an effect that is separate from the master effects. In the vocoder settings, when you turn the mix (red) knob all the way up until you see the red dot, you'll hear the full dry signal of the microphone. As long as you're not pressing any keys you won't hear the vocoder. It's a nice little cheat code for getting an extra layer of effects just for the mic.
@reneeschkeАй бұрын
Probably said already, but just in case: SHIFT + LIFT a looped region to lift multiple tracks at once. Then SHIFT + DROP to drop it as one audio clip. Careful: the mixer volumes AND MUTES effect the lifted tracks.
@NovakTheEnjoyer29 күн бұрын
I'm glad you mentioned this. At the time of recording this I don't believe that update happened yet, but I find myself using SHIFT + DROP now to lift the volume of a good take if it's too quiet in the mix. Otherwise, it always makes me nervous to use this just to consolidate tracks with no undo. One way the OP1F has changed my recording style is that it has simplified my writing. The fear of screwing everything up and the awareness of only getting 4 tracks and whatever you overdub (risky) keeps things refreshingly simple as opposed to the unlimited choices of a DAW where things can quickly and unnecessarily get convoluted and messy.
