I've seen several of your videos and I love how detailed you are. Love your videos! Can you do a video of approaching and hitting for beginners and what things we can work on to develop more consistent hitting? I don't mind practicing but maybe you can give some ideas on what to work on like a progression to being a good hitter. This is where I seem to be really struggling. TY!

I love the spandex on the talented and dedicated women in field of volleyball although these women showcase their skill and creativity athleticism in the sport while showing their beauty. It is not fair I agree with you to the fullest. It most likely was some misogynistic dude or group that made that regulation/rule just to bring an aspect of sexualization to the sport. Women should be able to wear whatever they feel comfortable in. If they have to wear spandex short shorts men should too!! I’m sure some women don’t feel comfortable around men in those shorts. Full support over here. ✌🏽🤟🏽

This was the worst video. I have seen to explain what it looks like to be an official and doing their signals the worst I am a volleyball official for 35 years and I’ve never taught anybody your kind of signals. You should go back to ref school and understand How to do the signals the correct way and explain it completely different than the way you’re explaining it
@rachellamming4989 Жыл бұрын
Someone recently told me that men don't wear spandex because: "The athletes can wear whatever they want. Men's bodies are different from women's bodies so the reason the men's shorts are longer is because they do not need short, quick agile movements when they play- like women (hence the smaller shorts). Men play with more need to engage their muscles and strength- hence why longer shorts does not hinder their movements like it would in women's volleyball" Can you offer your opinion on this?
@coachmara Жыл бұрын
That's really interesting! In my opinion, I agree men and women's bodies are different but I don't agree that the movement between men and women are different. The game requires players use the same explosive, quick movements regardless of gender or clothing. But it's different for everyone's personal preferences :)
@adambabounez7383 Жыл бұрын
One point about middles from a fellow coach and yes, it is contentious but i would rather have a shorter yet quicker and more agile middle to move (shuffle) the front row than a taller but slower middle who just jumps for the hell of it
@coachmara Жыл бұрын
I totally agree and would add it's more ideal if the shorter middle can jump and has good timing vs a taller middle who doesn't/can't, a hot-ish take
@adambabounez7383 Жыл бұрын
@coachmara Yes, of course, ideally, your shorter middle has got both hops and timing down to a T. I hope it is going well for you in Norway with tryouts and all.

Is there a term for the sequence of play when the ball is on your team's side of the net? I was going to guess "posession", but I think that is used to refer to the half of each rotation when your team is serving.
@coachmara Жыл бұрын
It's typical to say the phrase "when we have or gain possession..." when referring to play on your team's side of the net, it's not only used when referencing a change in serving possession.

Leggings. How do you feel about them and if you like them what brands are good? I am a bigger person and when I dive for a ball my thighs get stuck, so I wanted to see what brands are good. Spandex don’t look good because they always role above my thighs to where I’m wearing like underwear. With my regular leggings sometimes they fall down and I don’t want to have to worry about that during a game or practice. Do you have any suggestions?
@coachmara2 жыл бұрын
Hi Ava, great question! My go to brand for lot falling down and staying where I put them when exercising in general is Lululemon. If that's not in your price range, Under Armor and Costco have some great options as well. Hope that helps <3

I think the term "ace" for me definitely came from my own experience as a tennis player along with volleyball, so I used it in both; a lot of the terms that overlap gameplay-wise (as in services/serves, aces, the baseline, etc.) are sometimes really weird to think about because i have to remember which game i'm watching or playing.
