I don't believe shadow weaver would sacrifice Adoras life once Adora gets the power or magic to defeat Horde Prime because shadow weaver knows Adora would survive the failsafe due to being she ra. However Shadow weaver would simply take the magic from Adora at a later date without killing Adora after Horde Prime is defeated because Shadow weaver understands that if Horde Prime wins she will be mind controlled or worse. Hence it would stay consistent with shadow weavers character from the previous seasons while still caring about Adoras life in an abusive way. What is inconsistent in season 5 from the previous seasons is that the show tells Adora to not forgive both Catra and Shadow weaver in season 3 and 4 to display how similar both Catra and shadow weaver are in terms of being evil but for different reasons. For Catra she is a self serving person who wants things to go a certain way for her by any means necessary (which includes forcing a romantic relationship to happen with Adora by wanting her love or destroying kingdoms and villages to get Adoras attention) and if it does not work out than Catra will fly into temper tantrums or depression while for shadow weaver in the previous seasons she is selfish because of her desire of survival or personal benefit for herself when she either works for the Horde or rebellion while also craving Adoras power. Catra feels entitled to Adoras love or forgiveness without earning it while shadow weaver craves Adoras power for personal gain. Both characters are not good at all morally but if someone were to put a gun to my head and I had to chose who is better I would pick shadow weaver because of the severity of both characters actions. Shadow weaver didn't pull a switch that would destroy reality or destroy entire kingdoms out of spite and desire for 1st place against Adora with innocent etherian lives on the line.

When looking over this video I believe that both Shadow weaver and Catra should deserve respect but not forgiveness. Forgiveness is the beginning process of reconciliation while respect means you allow the characters or people in general to heal without having to let them back into your lives. What the show does is contradict its own message from previous seasons since season 3 and 4 indicate that Catra and shadow weaver should not be forgiven but season 5 retcons those messages by saying shadow weaver deserves no forgiveness while Catra does. Actions speak louder than words and if Catras actions are as bad as shadow weavers or arguably worse than if Catra wants to heal (realistically) than she needs self respect which means others have no obligation to forgive her but that doesn't stop her from healing individually or if the main characters do forgive her (however unrealistic that may be in real life) than she needs to have a better motivation than wanting Adoras love and really take her problems seriously by rebuilding Etheria or trust with the other characters more often than the show presents. Plus she needs to value Adora as a person for her motivations opinions or goals while also taking her trauma into consideration not as a fix for her abandonment issues since the failsafe episode confirms that Catra is using Adora to fill her abandonment issues (also she doesn't seem to care that the universe is at stake and Adora needs emotional and physical support to stop Horde Prime) until melog convinces her to not do that and go back to Adora. A point which I kind of disagree with you is that season 5 actually promotes the idea that emotions or words count more than actions since shadow weaver committed less crimes than Catra but since Catra has stronger feelings or emotional reactions or is able to use her words when conveying her feelings more effectively it means we should forgive her and not shadow weaver no questions asked. It does not promote that innate worth comes from actions but through being able to use your words for emotional effect that ultimately matters since that saved Adoras life in season 5. If your perspective were the case than Shadow weaver would be the one who was forgiven not Catra since she committed less bad actions than Catra.

I disagree that Catra and Adoras situation is more common in abuse situations. Zuko and Azulas upbringing is more common where one parent elevates one kid and degrades the other while the other parent elevates the other kid and degrades the other. Catra and Adoras situation requires one parent to do that to set up the golden child scapegoat dynamic which is not as common.

@@joyeeverett6196 I would also like to add that Catra operates on unhealthy sympathy which is excessive people pleasing by wanting to win approval, reading social situations to make sure she has an advantage, having extreme difficulties in connecting emotionally with anybody to the point that it hurts her, being able to make many friends quickly but just as easily drop them if she is either jealous, bored, or views them as an inconvenience to her. For shadow weaver by contrast she operates on unhealthy empathy which is her ability to boss people around to an unreasonable degree, being able to connect emotionally with someone she sees individually as worthy (Adora) to her, has inferior social skills in terms of reading a situation by not understanding how her words may hurt others which is also a problem glimmer has, and prefers deeper attatchments than multiple superficial friends. Plainly speaking sympathy means you can create many friends or relationships quickly but connecting emotionally is more difficult while empathy means you can connect emotionally but making friends is a bigger challenge. Human communication relies on what you are good at versus what you have difficulties in doing socially.

Good video overall. Especially when it comes to comparing how shadow weavers actions while bad are not quite as bad as Catras actions in the show. For me shadow weavers arc while being concerned for her own life at first in season 5 decides to kill herself later because the only people closest to her refused to love her even when providing the best advice she could given the circumstances to Adora so the decision makes sense while also feeling guilty for what she did. As sad and tragic as suicide is if the person believes there are no other options available to get better from that then those wishes have to be respected but if there are alternatives for the person to not be suicidal than call a psychologist, therapist or any other mental health professional.

@@joyeeverett6196 It is a tricky subject since you are juggling whether the person wants to do it like assisting suicide where a person is in so much pain that you have to cut off life support for that individual or if the person wants to do it versus your willingness to prevent that from happening. Again it depends on the circumstances and I am not saying allowing all people who are suicidal to kill themselves but that in shadow weavers context alone it makes sense since the people who were closest to her refused to love or forgive her and that rejection hurt shadow weaver emotionally that there were not many options left for her. A different scenario is Bojack Horseman where he was suicidal due to his mental problems but he does have the tools and people around him to prevent himself from committing suicide.

@@joyeeverett6196 I admire your willingness to give people more chances but in shadow weavers case how can she make different friends if she as a person only cared about a few people in her life that left the most positive impacts on her which are king Micach, Catra and Adora specifically? She tried to earn forgiveness but both Micach and Adora refused to forgive her and held onto their bitter feelings towards her while Adora hypocritically gave Catra the benefit of the doubt so I am only asking how is it possible for the Etherians to give her a chance when she betrayed them by working for the Horde? Even if possessed by dark magic I do not believe most Etherians would forgive shadow weaver for what she did. Even more importantly since Adora is considered the hero her perspective on shadow weaver is going to be reinforced by other Etherians as well which is sad to a degree but is going to happen regardless if shadow weaver kills herself or not. This is why I am saying shadow weaver doesn't have many options to emotionally heal once the war is over if she decides not to kill herself. It is a combination of shadow weavers flawed personality of overvaluing a few people closer to her for emotional satisfaction and the fact that the environmental circumstances she is in are not favorable for her to emotionally heal. You can disagree and that is completely justifiable.

Note: This is showing the hypocrisy of how some Catra fans treated Catra and shadow weavers arcs. Catra to the horde cadets in season 4: Some of you may die but it is a sacrifice I am willing to make and if I am going to I only sacrifice myself for Adora and nobody else. Also when I am rescued the only concern I have is being romantically involved with Adora and not much else. Fans: Give Catra her redemption and pop the 🍾. Shadow weaver killing herself in season 5 not expecting forgiveness from Catra and Adora: I may die but it is a sacrifice I am willing to make because it is right thing for Adora and Catra to live a peaceful life without me abusing them. Fans: Such a horrible person die die die!!!

@@brendanmckiernan5095 I just did some Googling and found it! I know they're unofficial - as far as I'm aware, Shadow Weaver's canon name was Beatrix in the 1985 version - but I much prefer Alura to Beatrix myself. Alura also means "Godsend," which is going to be very important in Seraphite.

shadow weaver pulled a vader. And honestly, I didn't know what to think. I was crying because catra was crying, but it didn't sit well with me. I was hating the choice of her dyeing. I just started the series and I hope that you might put words behinds some things I am feeling about that scene. I love the series to death. But yeah that thing was bugging me and it is good to see some people felt something similar as well.

@@joyeeverett6196 I made a comment on the 4th video before going to bed. I think. I might have closed the browser before posting. It was getting really late here. I just haven't realised how much I did hate shadow weaver. I didn't want her to have redemption in any form. and there is a part of me that is ok with such a person dieing for their sins. I have suicidal ideation myself, but I never made the connection. The girls didn't have to be ok with her, but she could have redeemed herself, by dieing not killing herself. You are write the choice to make her suicide it is questionable. She could have died in battle in a way trying to protect them. Not suiciding and traumatizing both the girls, the audience and triggering people. I think it is cultural that we don't notice sacrifice as suicide and only if we care about the character we tend to realise what the hell is going on. and because shadow weaver for me is a stand for my family I really really really couldn't care less for her. I hope if I did post that other comment, I didn't say anything triggering because I wrote it in a fit or rage against shadow weaver and my family and I had some heavy thoughts in their. Like the fact that I have wished they could have died so I could be free of their influence in my lfie. because I am too afraid to cut that connection myself. in general for queer people this series touch a lot of nerves and I think that I need to understand the stronger negative emotions I have. They say a lot about me. thank you for making this series. especially because finishing the 4th part I wasn't clapping or simply agreeing with you. I was questioning myself and if anything a real conversation (according to dialectics at least) only happen when either site of it comes changed from it. And you succeed making me second guess what I got from that show. If you upload something else from a series I have watched I will definitely give it a look.

@@hellNo116 Personally I don't see why Shadow Weaver had to die at all. I would have much preferred her reconnecting with Micah and leaving Adora's and Catra's lives instead. That way all amends are made but she could still have a second chance. I'm fundamentally opposed to the idea that dying is redemption as a Christian. Yet I am still very sorry for what happened to you. I do not mean to downplay that. Thanks for watching and understanding my perspective. @@joyeeverett6196 I am not noelle. I cannot tell what is in her mind. However I am a gender non confomring lesbian, so if she had a similar past to mine, I can make an educated guess. Her death to me sympolizes the death of homophobia and abuse in the girls lives. For Noelle it seems that the most inexcusable crime is abuse of the ones you claim to love. Or at least that is what the shows tells. And giving up your life is the only thing you can do to break even. However now that I am calmer and given what I know about justice in general, you are 100% right. The only way to fix this is for the one who hurt those people to take part in restorative justice. And you are even more right when you point out that shadow weaver decided to suicide because she left that she had no one and everyone hated her and wished she was dead. I don't know if any person deserves to have the thoughts I had during my worse days not even someone I consider a monster. because the moment they die they cannot improve. I honestly don't know what the right answer is. I live with my family and we still have very bad moments, I feel that the fact that I have the chance to make things better is a thing I would have craved. I suppose that based on what I see from a queer friend who decided that he cannot tell his mother anything about who he is, ever. And he was in a equally abusive household if not more. But whevever I was present when the thought that his mother will never see the real him, even I another neurodivergent like you I can tell that he is hurting. Those things are complex and there are no good answer. For some people moving forward and never looking back might be the right thing to do. and if that means the metaphorical or literal death of the abuser who am I to tell them they are wrong.
