New subscriber, you already lost me with politics. Shut up and fix radios. And by the way, the majority of Americans DO agree with "what's happening now". Look at the popular vote.

Trump won a plurality of the popular vote, not a majority. Seth has every right to his viewpoints, this is not yet a fascist, totalitarian, christo-fascist dictatorship. You want to silence him and me - doesn't bother me, my family escaped NAZI Germany, I know the game you are playing. Leave Seth, however, alone. Watch his great videos and be grateful he offers them.

@@adamv242 I can't speak for Seth, but he has every right to voice his political opinions. Not all of us Americans side with the fascists. I do like the looks of that radio. The French always seem to make products look different and better than other markets, even if sometimes the engineering is a bit quirkey or less than stellar. You mentioned the case is metal, and at one point during restoration you said you would need to connect something to "chassis ground". How is that compatible with the metal case? Isn't it a danger? How is the chassis insulated from the metal case? To someone like me who isn't an electrical engineer, that sounded like "hot chassis" connected to a metal case. I'm probably wrong, so feel free to tell me so in your response.

Hello, I’m working on an RCA console stereo. It’s a model vzt27s. It’s my first time working on one. The record player in it looks cheap and someone broke the stylus so I plan to replace the record player with a newer one. The current one one plugs in with a cord I’ve never seen before while the new one uses RCA jacks. The old one plugs into the stereo with a 3 prong plug & plugs into the record player with what looks like an RCA Jack but one side is smaller than the other. Funny though the 8 track player plugs into with regular RCA jacks and works great. Can I get a cord that is RCA to the 3 prong end or should I just replace everything?

Probably not a bad idea to throw some more fuses into that variac design so it can't burn up again. Fuse on the incoming AC going into the variac assembly, unrelated fuse on the power leaving the variac to the device being tested.

Older video from early October, 2024. There was a heat wave going on there until the 9th of October. Typical late 1950's PC board which you got to be careful desoldering from it. Tube socket pin connections on PC board are often cracked. It's hard to show on video but I have encountered it. The clock repair part is often touch and go but Seth does what needs to be done to get it working correctly. Worth to restore as it has a nice mid-century look to it !

People who work on clocks always set the hour, minute and alarm hands to 12 o'clock before removing the hands and put back in the same way. That way the alarm is set to work as it should when put back together.

100 degrees in December? How do you identify it's the "across the line cap"? I still have not heard your answer on that.
@davidhamm56265 күн бұрын
If you start at the interlock. follow a trace till you get to a cap. In this case, it is the .03, in the back corner of the set.
@@rayrussell6258 '"Interlock'", in this case, means the detachable cord. When you open the case, the cord is automatically detached from the set. You can see it in the video when Seth checks whether the line cord is still good right at the case back. So, you would follow where both wires coming from the fixed-to-the-radio part of the interlock lead. One of them will run to a capacitor, directly and to nothing else, and that will be the safety cap. The other one will go to the on/off switch. "Safety Interlocks" are very common in vintage equipment because the manufacturer knew the tubes and light-bulbs would have to be replaced every so often and the knew there was lethal voltage in the set. This interlock "locked" you out of having the set live when the back was open. To complicate things, Seth is using a "Widow Maker" or cheater cord to power the set out of case. I hope that helped?
@rayrussell62585 күн бұрын
