I actually liked the background of the museum. Sounded like a fun place to fix things as a group.

I one transistor preamp for the cartridge using an NPN germanium transistor powered by the voltage drop across the 25L6 cathode resistor might help.

Yes. Then again, Seth fixed it in the end. I don't trust old ceramic or crystal cartridges. They're just done. It's better to install an inexpensive new one, and, yes, that sometimes means throwing in a wicked simple pre-amp.

Sweet, that really boosted the volume and sound quality. Love the car, and I almost bought a '49 Ford back in the '80s because my dad had one when I was a kid.

Sounds like you're having fun 😄. He can't get FM to work 🤣. I have the same trouble with tube FM radios they're very demanding on the oscillator mixer tube they have to be a good tube

I always like watching your video's! Turntables are my favorite! It always amazed me how they put all those gears together to make a changer record player work!

This looks almost identical to a Symphonic player I had The only real difference is the color (mine was a sort of turquoise) and the knob on the flipover stylus.

Watched it for in the museum schticks and giggles. But in the end it is still a low end Decca ( model DP-583) one tube wonder with all of its made in the late 1950's problems. Clean everything and replace what you should. Make sure the output tube is good and will be fine for an small room listening phonograph. Your new to you 1949 Plymouth looks very cool Seth.

Congrats on the new '49 Plymouth! I hope it doesn't replace your 1955 Mercury. And that Toyota Tacoma you got is still in great mechanical and cosmetic condition.

I will have to be buried in the tacoma. Because I've owned it since I'm 18 and now I'm 47 year old man. When you're with something for 30 years you can't get rid of it

Funny how Decca always named their phonos, they did it way into the 60’s I believe until they ceased production.

"Maybe Nobody will watch..." Yeah, that was total click-bait. I enjoyed it - these one-tube wonders and the super simple record players were really quite durable. That shaded-pole motor's rotor was balanced! And this was clearly a cheap, cheaper, cheapest unit. I wonder whether this wasn't one of those things you got for joining a record club?
@dmcintosh19672 ай бұрын
Yea those one tube wonders I try to avoid them do to the high output salt crystal cartridges that always seem to be bad. You can put a new ceramic cartridge in one but it will have to be cranked almost all they way up.

Oh my gosh, that’s the same model of record player that got me hooked on vinyl when I was only about 5 years old (almost 60 years ago now). What a throwback! I still have the 45’s I played on it. Early Stones, Beatles, Beach Boys, etc. I’m afraid to ask, but is it for sale?

One tube wonder... I have one almost like it.

Its good the cartridge is still good those high output cartridges are not longer available. A long time ago I wrote down a one transistor preamp circuit that can be applied to these record players that boosts the signal from a more common lower output cartridge but I can't find the drawing.
