I agree 100%. I used to be a policeman and I got more thank you comments from people walking across the lot for ticketing other people who didn’t even have a permit parking in the handicap stalls. Sometimes if they had one they pulled out you’d find it was a relatives permit but the relative wasn’t there. Contact the local police, get an appointment with the chief…not just tell the clerk and walk away, ask for an emphasis program once in a while. Police don’t normally cruise parking lots for such things and they should. All they have to do is issue it like a parking ticket under the wiper. If it’s someone with a permit who forgot to put the placard out they can go to or call the court and ask to have it dismissed which the court always does and the Chief can set that up with them. Make sure the fines are $250 and up and if they are not call your state rep and ask them to do so, $75 fines do not teach people….$300+ however grabs their attention. Best lots to look at are Walmart, Costco….any busy place. Look up amounts charged in other states. It surprises me that Florida of all places with its large disabled population doesn’t focus more on that. Take that personality you have and your story of what happened to you and contact the local news. They love human interest stories and stirring up local issues that many forget. You are a hope, I’m not an amputee, I have a permit and I’m ambulatory and there’s plenty of places close enough (unless it’s Costco lol) that i can survive the walk albeit with a bit of pain if I have to. I will not take a wheelchair parking spot. An officer could park in the lot of a large grocery store a ticket cars all day, I would recommend contacting the management first. Big places don’t worry about losing customers over such things but mom and pop places do. Focus on the big or busy places and word gets around fast. Have the city put up a sign here and there saying the city enforces disabled parking permits. It only takes a couple around stores to let people know and/or remind them. Have the city show the fine amount on the bottom of the sign. If the city says it costs too much call your state rep….they listen more than you think. The word gets out and the problem starts to reduce but it needs a few days, even week of emphasis once a year to remind people. Be the citizen activist squeaky wheel, go to a citizen council meeting, stir up local support groups to get together to attend council meetings. See if you can talk to the mayor directly or City Manager. Trust me, the Police Chiefs listen if a councilman gets on their case….or the news. From my experience in public service the squeaky wheel does get greased.

There's a special tool for people with low fine motor skills that i think might be useful to you. It's usually called stuff like pill remover. I imagine if you put it on a table, insert the blister and then press down witj your hand it might work. It usually has a little compartment at the bottom that the pill will fall into so that might make it easier to take it.

What you should have in your home is a knlfe with a very short pointed bIade, not too sharp and with a handle you can...well, handle. This short bIade will replace the fingernails you don't have most of the times. It will be as useful as a well designed prosthetic at a fraction of the price.

Hopefully this episode of Covid and the flu helps support and reinforce the justification for equipment needs.

They don't care because they don't have to live with what we have. Disabled people have to deal with 24/7/365. Sadly, they don't think outside the box. Having the flu and COVID-19 on top of it is not fun. I had COVID, and I was weak, and I had to take 5 to 10 mins to do something that typically took 3 mins.

When you focus your attention on what other people do that you have no ability to change (nor should you), please get help. If you can’t live your life worrying only about your life and the way you can actually productively improve things, you need to be way more worried about you than where people park.

As a multiple amputee, it does matter to me that ADA spaces are taken when they are not needed. Moreover, the idea is to affect change. The very fact that you commented without watching the entire video nor reading the description belies the fact that you are the one who needs help.
@lauriecole331228 күн бұрын
@@nolimbjimI did watch the whole video. And read the description. I commented on my SECOND time through the video. You’re encouraging a struggle Olympics. Your disability deserves spaces more than others. In my state, if a person doesn’t need the additional space of the wider ADA spots, they are not allowed to use one unless all other ADA spaces are taken within a reasonable distance. That is completely reasonable and makes sense. What doesn’t make sense is people having to compete for the use of spaces by those feeling more entitled to a space. Have I been through the nightmare of having the ADA spaces with the extended room taken when I had a family member or friend that needed that space to roll their wheelchair down? Yes, way more than once. Do you think I went up and confronted them? No. Because some disabilities are invisible and the thing is that everyone that has been given the right to use those spaces has a documented reason. Does the rule I mentioned above make sense? Yes. If someone missing more of their limbs than you pulls up next, should you have to give way to them? No. Because that just isn’t reasonable. It isn’t a competition and hopefully you stop being the jerk that confronts people over where they legally park. You think the business needs more ADA spaces? Tell them. Your state need that rule? Lobby for it. You being confrontational? Doesn’t help anyone and in the end, only adds more stress to your life. If you insist though, just remember that stress very negatively affects our bodies. You’re harming yourself.

He's asking a question... "is it right for them to use it when the obviously didn't need that specific space" (they could have used a handicapped spot that dosent have the extra room for a wheelchair) Especially when they had CLOSER spaces that don't have the EXTRA room on the sides of the parking spot. .. they could have still gone into a handicapped spot, but he's asking if it's right to use the "wheelchair access" spot when you dont have a walker/wheelchair/cane that necessitates the use of those extra-wide parking spots
