I lived in Lahaina in the 80's, researching the Humpback Wales, and this song would drift out the bars and embrace the balmy Hawaiian air most nights, bringing a smile to all who heard it. Now back in the UK, I shed a tear every time I hear it, but they are nostalgic tears of the happiest days of my life, yet also tinged with great sadness for everything that was destroyed in the fire. Still, I have the sweetest memories and hope to return one day.

I'm from Europe, but: Respect for all this brave soldiers🙏🏻 They fought against an evil enemy from Washington and Ohio. It is very sad, what happened to the south "gone with the wind" But I also believe they will come back in a near future and I wish only the best

Deo Vindice! Here are the lyrics to this rousing and most excellent song: Listen all ye that hold communion With southern Confederates so bold While I tell you of some men who for the Union In the northern ranks were enrolled; They came to Missouri in their "glory," And thought, at their might, we'd be dismayed; But they soon had a different story When they met Kelly's Irish Brigade When they met with the Irish Brigade, me boys When they met with the Irish Brigade Didn't those cowardly Lincolnites tremble When they met with the Irish brigade? They have called us rebels and traitors But themselves have thrown off that name of late They were called it by the English invaders At home in the eve of ninety-eight The name to us is not a new one though 'Tis one that shall never degrade And each blue-hearted Irishman In the ranks of Kelly's Irish Brigade When they met with the Irish Brigade, me boys When they met with the Irish Brigade Didn't those cowardly Lincolnites tremble When they met with the Irish brigade? Well they dare not call us invaders 'Tis but states rights and liberty we ask; And Missouri, we will ever defend her No matter how hard may be the task Then let the Irishmen assemble Let the voice of Missouri be obeyed; And northern fanatics will tremble When again they meet Kelly's Irish Brigade When they met with the Irish Brigade, me boys When they met with the Irish Brigade Didn't those cowardly Lincolnites tremble When they met with the Irish brigade?

It was, and im Georgian, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt that you weren't taught this, but this is by the vice president of the confederates himself In what’s now known as the “Cornerstone Speech,” Stephens told a Savannah, Ga., crowd in 1861 that “our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas [as those of slavery foes]; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition. This, our new government, is the first, in the history of the world, based upon this great physical, philosophical, and moral truth.” He went further: the battle over slavery “was the immediate cause of the late rupture and present revolution.”

I'm disappointed in all those who come into our comment section to say our heritage and history is racist, my teacher was teaching about the topic of slavery and the civil war and he even said it himself that the confederates fought for state rights, anyone who tries to oppress our heritage and history is ignorant and should respect what little we have, they should *NOT* oppress and shame us, and if you can't accept who we are, don't reply with a hate message to this comment *Preserve history!*

States rights? Hmmm oh hey here's vice president of the confederates I wonder what's he about to say??? In what’s now known as the “Cornerstone Speech,” Stephens told a Savannah, Ga., crowd in 1861 that “our new government is founded upon exactly the opposite ideas [as those of slavery foes]; its foundations are laid, its cornerstone rests, upon the great truth that the negro is not equal to the white man; that slavery, subordination to the superior race, is his natural and normal condition.
