You're civil war was quite interesting to read about. Ill say this however, North or South, both sides fought for their respective leaders and their own agenda. The slave part was, for the most part, just the propaganda the North used to get the media to support them. Respect to both sides though. Not a small war by any means.

I remember singing this song in elementary school. At the words, Hurray! Hurray! the entire class would stand and shout it. To my father, who was racist as hell, this song always prompted the words, "the South shall rise again," meaning the antebellum. To me, it was about camaraderie and music. I still love this song, as I don't have the negative connotations about it that so many do.
@warrenlc5710 жыл бұрын
***** You are right about that! How lucky you are to have grown up in such a culturally diverse place. I envy you.
@southerngent81625 жыл бұрын
Lol. What does you father being racist have to do with the antebellum? You act as if racism didnt exist after the war. The Antebellum was a time when the Constitution was followed and the States were free to exercise their own self governance. It was called Federalism.

you think you do but trust me that would be so bad. There would be two countries instead of one, we would be divided and that means america would not be as strong and not be the strongest power in the world like we are today. It would make every one weaker if we were not united.

Look at the first draft of the Constitution of the CSA, it actually banned slave trading all together. Current slave owners were allowed to keep the slaves the had but could not trade, sell, or buy anymore slaves. Once they were dead, that was it, that was changed in the final draft though. I'm sure money had everything to do with it, since that copy was approved toward the end of the war, when most of the funding was coming from slave owners. If the whole war was fought over slavery, tell me why the battles were fought by poor men who didn't own slaves? Why were southern black men fighting for the south? Why were thousands of northern white AND black men fighting for the south. It wasn't because of slavery, it was for states rights and to fight against unfair taxes. History is written by the winners folks, believe it. If you want proof, look at the American Revolution. The colonist started a war and broke away from Britain for the exact same reasons, but they won the fight. They are now in the books as the greatest heroes in American history. Don't get me wrong, I love the USA, but I'm southern to the core and I refuse to allow our history to be tarnished because of one issue among many.
@southerngent81625 жыл бұрын
It was the Southern States that pushed for banning the importation of slaves. The north owned the slaveships so they were against that measure.

There wasn't a surrender at Appomattox, that was only a truce. The arrogance and conceit of the liberals and leftists in this country is slowly but surely fanning the embers of resentment in increasing numbers of Americans---building the fires of liberty and freedom. They think the South has been totally subjugated---a fatal mistake on their part. The South is growing economically, industrially, and politically. Far stronger now than it has ever been before. And a growing awareness of its own separate destiny. We're ready for Round #2, boys!

That's sung by Larry Groce and was on one of the Disney's Children's Favorites cassettes, which I got when I was not yet five years old and which introduced me to "Dixie". In the book that accompanied it, there was an illustration showing Bre'er Bear in uniform, carrying a Confederate battle flag. I leave you with this thought: the South will rise again...from a Canadian.
