One edge question I’ve been trying to answer, for Type 2 AC Charging only cars like my MG HS +EV, with my own Type 2 to Type 2 Cable, at a public charging station with CCS2, can I plug into the Type 2 only component of the CCS2 socket to charge?

If we really commited to using as much electric energy for daily commuting while not harming mobility and really cared for the environment more than marketing toys like Teslas, REX cars would be the definite go to. We just don't care.
@christiangwenner6384Ай бұрын
The truth is that REX is still the best technical solution, by far. We just don't commit to change. We have hybrids that are a "nice to have" for people who actually want to stick with ICEs and we have EVs as marketing tools and second cars for people who don't fear range, because they have two other cars in their garages for road trips or simply never travel.

We are not ready for EV yet in 2030, We have bad infrastructure to support such mode of transport and it makes barely any difference because alot of electric power generators still uses coal and diesel. The world goverment is idiotic for implementing such thing and didnt consider things through, we need a transition from hybrid first while infrastructures for supporting ev id being built.

Just in the market after a Big crash with our Volvo XC 60… Time to move to electric car, Time to look outside the box after 30 years of fifelity with Volvo!… we are buying an Ionic 5… difficult choice… Tesla corrosion problem in Quebec, Canada… plus paint and assembly bad quality were the reasons why we are going to Hyundai …. A huge move for us…we will see😊

The one thing you didn't cover was the economics of the scheme for the motorist. This only works if you are paid more by the Grid than the cost of the original input power. If you are able to charge your EV on cheap overnight electricity, or from home-based renewables such as PV panels, then the balance of costs could be in your favour. If, like me abd many others in the UK, you have a smart meter that isn't smirt (i.e. doesn't communicate due to poor signal quality) you have no access to cheap overnight (or indeed daytime) tariffs. I really can't see the Grid paying me more for the energy I give them than what my electicity supplier charges me!

For me the rex concept matches what most people actually need assuming they can home charge. To make it a killer just add the following: 1. A purpose built generator: diesel?, constant speed, compact, relatively quiet, plug-in-out for easy maintenance, 15-20l tank 2. Program the GPS to tell your car what your journey is. On long journeys the car could try and keep the battery charged enough 3. Charging infrastructure from solar panels The idea would be that you almost always run electric, almost always charged at home, almost never fill up the tank. Very low maintenance. Green if you care about that. Very low price per mile. Total cost of ownership low enough so we don't need subsidies/tax breaks to warrant buying one.

I have been passionate about electric vehicles since I was a child. I didn't have many opportunities in life to advance in this world, but little by little I started working with electric bikes, electric scooters, electric motorcycles and now my dream is to work with electric cars! Today I have an electric scooter maintenance workshop, DSBBIKESELETRICAS, in my city and I love this world!

REX is the way to go. Electric in cities, and REX drive on highways. How difficult can it be to get the idea... A normal EV with a REX and decent tank, whatever fuel, made for 700 to 1000km range is what the NEAR future needs. The tech is already here, but no one dare to adapt and develop it to a consumer product. VW made a tech for diesel engines that had very low emissions.. on constant revolution on the engine... and they did not understand what they did. cheated the emission tests and fkd up their future among it. So that tech is 'banned' in peoples minds. Still brilliant. Make that to a REX and there might be less problems of emissions in near future. Sad that consumers wants HP, racing shit on streets, and dont give a s..t about these matters. Im not a environmentalist, but tech savvy/nerd in few small areas. We got it allready, but we just struggle things out of our hands.....

You're so right. We have a Skoda Station Wagon. The biggest one you can get. Seats 5 adults plus huge cargo. Can go close to 150 mph. But if you operate it in normal conditions, including city traffic and highway speeds up to 90 mph, fuel consumption is in between 4.2 and 5 liters per 100 km, which translates to 45 to 55 mpg. Imagine cutting this engine in half and optimizing it for highest efficiency in a pre defined rev range and use it as a range extender.

great video, i have a BMW I3 Rex 2018 120 miles on electric 90 miles petrol, now for me in the uk this is perfection , no expensive hassle of public charging,no hunt the charger which may not work and then wait to charge , no planning my journey this is a car with proper electric drive no gearbox and all this perfection costs me 2p per mile as i charge at home off peak... yes i drive a car to suit me not me suit the car, over 200 mile range but this does not matter just pop in a couple of gallons and of i go again...i will never never public charge, that's a mugs game.
