Is it ok to have a wire antenna like that turn and double back on itself like that ?

It was radio club tonight for me, @STU, so I'm watching this on playback. The "GEOCHRON" looks fabulous. It looks like I'll now need a third monitor. Cheers for that, mate. hi, hi. Give yourself a pat on the back, Stu. Grand job!!

Good point, I speak with the neighbours, there are no kids and the adults don't use that part of their gardens so it's not a problem. Especially though the winter.

As long as it doesn't screw up the SWR I would be fine with it. It's what's called multi-purpose.

This is interesting, nice to see things working again. Always good to have the manual. I had a 101E, liked it very much, put in the 250 kHz c.w. filter. I made a separate single valve 807 amplifier for Top Band, run one valve instead of two. I had been turning the 101 down in power and still getting out so after eight years I sold it intending to go QRP with h/b gear based around the G4CLF p.c.b. I moved QTH so it didn't get going for ten years. G4GHB

Interesting video. It must be a late model you have there as the early FT101E and anything prior came with the 11m band as standard. The manuals for these radio's are so comprehensive that they give plenty of technical information such as individual xtal frequency that it should easily help in indentifying oddball xtals that have been used to modify. Its good to see these "boat anchors" up and running. They sound great and have good receiver sensitivity.

Hey would you help me with something? I have a chinese radio with the microphone connector into the radio with a broken tab that locks the cord into the radio. I do not know to replace the mic or if i should cut the cord and buy a new connector then try to splice the 2 together. I really want to get into radio and since this is a budget radio, i dont even know if they sell the microphone. This would be a great hobby for me, i am at a loss on what to do and where to go. I dont use fb and i live in Japan. The local hobby place did not have any type of communication equipment.

It looks very like an off centre fed dipole considering that the radiating element is almost twice the length of the other leg. The balun is only an isolater and not part of overall antenna length.
