It's a portrait of Henry VI by Georg von Ehingen circa 1481. He is standing next to his coat of arms. BUT Georg did draw a similar image of Henry of Castile and I've enjoyed looking at that, as his coat of arms are held by some weird monkey lion things! They have the same face too!

My definition is quite loose! Henry comes up quite a lot, not a popular king. Thanks for commenting :)

I shall chase you on an elephant personally donated by the Abbasid Caliphate, such is the Mercian tradition! These lists do present the worst side of the featured rulers so some are arguably not that bad. Richard was bought up being told kingship was his God given right and it looks like he really believed that. He had rather a sadistic temper it seems. There's a good series about the Plantagenets by Dan Jones with one episode on Richard II that shows his cruelty. I'm not sure exactly when the painting was made, I assume later in the Baron's life as he looks older and died around 40. I'd guess at between 1391-99, probably towards the end of that era when Richard was particularly tyrannical. That's just guess work though. It hangs at Leeds Castle now. I think it was an interesting era for kings because they were still often on the battlefield themselves, swinging a sword and vying for the crown. They had a lot more skin in the game! Richard III was the last English king to die on the battlefield. Don't tell anyone but I'm scared of horses... THEY BITE!
