DON'T DO THIS - I came across this KZbin video and did it temporarily on my 2001 ML55 which also has the M113 engine. My ML55 EGR pipe and intake manifold had very little carbon build up at 75K miles. With the EGR block-off plates installed my fuel economy over 3,000 miles was 14.8 m.p.g. when I re-installed the EGR my fuel economy went to 16.9 m.p.g over the next 3,000 miles. Same exact commute to work, same fuel (Premium 93-octane from 7-11), same driving style, A/C on. I'm all for removing unnecessary components (less weight, less things to break/troubleshoot) but in this case the EGR helps improve fuel economy by a little over 14%.
@ANDERZENAMG4 күн бұрын
I mean I would preface this by saying more so BE AWARE... not DON'T DO THIS. That makes it seems like you had engine problems. A variance in mpg could be caused but I am guessing you didn't program the car to know it's out which would also have an effect, possibly enough to negate the discrepancy you saw. I have not lost any mpg with this mod but have also properly tuned and programmed each one to know it's not there.
@trainingrevolution20314 күн бұрын
@@ANDERZENAMG I appreciate your contributions to the community, you have some great KZbin content. Please don't take this the wrong way. This is one mod that I wish you wouldn't recommend. I have the same RaceIQ Tune you have and I tested over two separate 3,000 mile increments. It's widely known that in gasoline engines the EGR improves fuel economy by about 10-15%. My ML55 had very little soot on the intake and EGR pipe when compared to yours.
@ANDERZENAMG4 күн бұрын
@@trainingrevolution2031 no harm taken at all don't sweat it, but imo there are too many variables at play to say definitively that is the cause. My ML55 averages 16mpg around the city driving normally and 21 highway on long drives. It is also still on a RaceIQ tune, but also has no cats essentially. I do understand the purpose of EGR system is efficiency, so an increase/decrease in mpg could be expected but I think can also be overcome. I have pulled probably 5 of these off of m112/113's and they have always been pretty caked up. I'd gladly sacrifice the mpg's, even though that has not been the case for me, in exchange for a clean intake manifold. Another thing to note is we only have 92 octane here, so another variable at play between us and these cars can be tuned for different octanes, maybe yours hasn't been optimized for 93 etc. Many many variables at play.

@ANDERZENAMG8 күн бұрын
you do not need a tune, the reason I like deleting them mostly is because if the primaries ever failed and broke apart they would block the secondaries and would cause issues or damage to motor.

I own a 1998 C43, silver in color with the tuxedo leather interior. It only has 136K miles and drives like it did 26 years ago when it was brand new. Mercedes made these cars to last a lifetime. It’s in pretty much the same condition as yours. The interior is beautiful and the exterior paint still shines through. Every time I drive it, it puts a smile on my face. Like you said in your video, it gets a lot of attention from people that know what it is and people that have no idea what it is. I also own a 2003 SLK32. I love the little supercharged V6 and the ability to modify it at a reasonable price. I am currently looking for an E55, C55, E63 or C63.
