How scary is an out of balance drive line! If it makes you feel better, I did that on an e36 and it felt violent. Had to do the fix for the buttery smooth feel.

Had a guibo bolt drop out on my c32 and it gave the same symptoms .. felt horrible

Had a similar issue on my r129, took the driveshaft apart but forgot to mark the splines where they had joined, then read about those alignment marks and had no issues. Did you preload the center bearing before tightening it?
