Totally agree the sound is different on all 3 fretboards. Yes, maple sounds brighter and with tight lows, whereas rosewood has less edge and more lows - mids presence. Roasted maple at least for me sounds even slightly brighter than standard maple, maybe due to the heat process it dries the wood too much. Anyways the differences are more noticeable with the guitar alone, but not so much in a mix or a band, and it's just subtle. Some people still say there's no difference, it doesn't matter... I do notice how they sound different, and I can think some people have different hearing, same with vision, so some will favor rosewood or maple. Thanks for the video Rhett, the best I have seen on the fretboard topic. Great channel, I suscribed ! 👍

The regular maple neck is the one I prefer. Gonna sit way better in a mix.

There will be naysayers, just like my comment that was pinned on the PRS tone wood video. People screaming and crying about the rules that they read in books and what they've been parroted for years about how pickups aren't microphonic and they can't hear any characteristics of the wood and wood makes no difference in tone, blah blah blah. There are several videos that show difference in tone on neck woods and body woods, and videos that show that pickups with the strings off the guitar you can hear your voice through the pickup, any pick up can do that. People crying complain about how pickups must be poorly wound or microphonic... No. The most expensive well made pickups do it. Everyone before you even comment here do the experiment yourself so you can prove yourself wrong before you blow a hole in your diaper by commenting to me. Pickups Yes everyone, have a degree of being microphonic. You can't avoid it. It just is. You switch to your bridge pickup roll your volume all the way up on the guitar and turn your amp up and you can hear your voice through the pickup coming out of your amplifier. Turn on reverb and delay so you can hear it echoing after you're done using your voice into the pickup. So if pickups here acoustic sounds then they can hear and pick up vibrations of wood therefore equals tone makes a different going into the pickup since it ears the materials the guitar is made of as well. There's no argument. It's just up to the specific player whether they can hear the difference or not. If you can't hear the difference then very sorry for your ears. Many of us do hear the difference and that is no fault of ours. Complaining about it is on you and your ears, and got nothing to do with us.

Been a D'Addario 010 46 for awhile now, Ernie Ball would just break! I broke my high E on Paradigm unbreakable strings the first week, problably my fender bridge being used but D'addario 010's just feel right under my fingers.. I play hard rock metal grunge live every couple of weeks, I pound them pretty hard!

I’m curious how it would sound with more overdrive or a higher gain sound. I imagine it would feedback too much. I have a Boss acoustic simulator pedal for acoustic song parts playing live and for $50 it does the job just fine

“we started to see Marshall amps coming over from England. Cream played them; we knew Jimi Hendrix used them because we had opened for him. So we bought a load of the original 100-watt Super Lead heads. We got six of them and two 200-watt bass heads. They were terrific-sounding amplifiers, but incredibly inconsistent; we blew them up regularly. You might get two or three shows out of them and then they’d go up in smoke. We’d have two sets of Marshalls with us on the road and one set in the shop all the time.” -Wayne Kramer -MC5

Love this so much, Rhett. “Community” is such an overused word today. But you captured it perfectly at the end. Also, whether it’s music, videos, stories, or art of any kind… when it’s in the context of real community it’s just the best thing in the world. I know these videos take a lot of work. But keep them coming when you can. They’re amazing.

I have an old Yamaha SA-30T (1967), I've tested several string gauges and types with it. It definitely sounds the best with Thomastik 11-47 flats. Unbelievably good tone.

Watch out guys, here comes Fricker to dispute what we all heard. Granted, I get it. Under high gain, most ppl wont notice, but to say theres nothing to tone wood, or fretboard woods, thats not true. And we cant forget 1 of the most important aspects is feel. How it feels to play, and how it makes YOU feel when you play. When I pick up a strat the tone it has just subconsciously makes me play certain things, same when I pick up a les paul or something with beefy humbuckers, the chugs come.

I do a lot of DIY PC and auto work, and just recently started learning guitar. Been quite pleased to learn that I basically already have everything I need to fix and maintain my instrument. Bought a used floor model, and in cleaning and polishing it, all I could think of while doing that, was how much it reminded me of detailing my car. 😅

I’m in the process of shopping for a new guitar. Sold my strat. I’m torn between the Gretsch electro magic 5420t and the Epiphone Les Paul 59 standard. I play a lot of acoustic, old country and folk. I also love to play a lot of punk rock green day, living end, but also into grunge, 90s pop rock like third eye blind, love the 80s stuff ,particularly U2, cure, clash, cult, inxs. I also grew up on zeppelin and like the old blues rock. No idea which way to go….any thoughts?

I'm surprised people still try to get their sound this way. I've seen the light. I use AMT Bricks, and plug into anything. My sound is already dialed in by the time it hits a power amp. Lugging all that weight around. No way

I've played my Yamaha AC3-R for years while gigging as it plays great and the built in electronics are great and I don't want to risk my Taylor in a live setting. Also the Taylor only sounds better when miced up, yamaha’s electronics are better to my ears. Also I love the practice amp from yamaha, the 30w version. So much so that I have used it for smaller venues too to great feedback about the tone. PS - this video makes me want to buy a Revstar just to be different. Although replacing my Les Paul P90 would be difficult.
