I am British and have been going to Switzerland for holidays since 1971. I have been up the Jugfraujoch twice, but I will not go again. I call Jungfraujoch 'The Top Ripoff of Europe'. The price has shot up so much that it is just not value for money. There are other high mountain trips in Switzerland which cost far less for (in my view) better scenery. I would particularly single out the line from Zermatt to Gornergrat which currently costs (with Swiss Travel Pass discount) well under a hundred franks. That line is almost entirely in the open air, and the view from the top is almost 360 degrees. In the Berner Oberland area the cable car to Schilthorn goes almost as high as the Jungfraujoch.

Sorry to hear
@Fan652w3 күн бұрын
This is generally a good video. But you should have stressed that where a mountain line (even a cable car or funicular) leads to a village, the line counts as part of the NORMAL transport system and the Swiss Travel Pass is valid. So you can get to villages like Wengen, Murren and Braunwald free with the STP. Lines which go to uninhabited locations are usually only 50% discount. However about twenty years ago the lines up Rigi decided to become free to STP holders. This has brought enormous business to the summit restaurants, and recently other purely mountain lines in the Lucerne area (Stanserhorn, Klewenalp, Stoos) have declared themselves free to STP holders. I hope other parts of Switzerland will get the message.
@SwitzerLandingКүн бұрын
That is a very fine detail. But sure. I will remember for next time
@Fan652wКүн бұрын
@@SwitzerLanding The point that the Swiss Travel Pass will take you free to high lying villages is for the Swiss themselves a POINT OF PRINCIPLE. Swiss residents cannot buy a STP but roundly 430,000 of them buy the 'General Abonnement' annual season ticket for Swiss Public Transport. The current price second class is 3,990 Franks. The validity of the STP is modelled on the validity of the (much more long-standing) GA. Fairness requires that the GA can be used to all villages, whatever their mode of public transport, and the same therefore apples to the STP.
@MadLemmingsКүн бұрын
@@Fan652wsure. But for tourists. Which the stp is for it is not such a big deal. Jungfraujoch. Important. Pilatus. Important. Murren. Maybe. But the cost is minimal even if not included. And i am working with and making content for tourists. So although your point is true and worth knowing it is not that important in the grand scheme of things

Hi, I purchased the Swiss Half Fare Card for my husband and I for our visit to Switzerland in late July. This works best for our five day stay in Switzerland before we take the Viking Cruise. Question 1 - Where do I find the Customer ID on the e-ticket receipt? It only shows the order# and ticket id# on the E-ticket and there is no contact information for questions. #2 Do I need the customer ID number to make reservations and purchase tickets ahead of time? #3 Also, I am having trouble finding a websites to make reservations. Is there one you recommend? I've tried SBB, I can purchase tickets, but it does will not factor in my husband's half-fare cost. I could not figure out how to make reservations on that website. Please help?
@SwitzerLanding14 күн бұрын
Hi Jaqueline, you can't add your half fare to the mobile app. But you can choose half fare when choosing the route/ticket you want. And you just have to show it when the inspector comes. You don't need to buy tickets ahead either, you can just do it before you get on the train. This can be done on the app or website (although the website means you need to download or print the ticket which is more painful). Try doing one on the app with the half fare chosen.
@JacquelineRenteria-ik7dv13 күн бұрын
@@SwitzerLanding I was not aware that I could wait to purchase the tickets. I've already purchased 2 tickets (point to point w/our half fare cards) We will also take the Bernina Express from Chur to Tirano for a couple of days, then Tirano to St. Moritz - so I made seat reservations for that and purchase tickets as well. We printed all the tickets. (I thought we would not be able to get a seat on the train if we did not purchase tickets in advance.) I guess I didn't understand this as well as I thought. I appreciate all of your videos and advice.

Thanks for the video. I’ve watched several and yours seem to be the most clear and concise in my opinion. On the Flex Pass and or Consecutive Pass - Are the days counted based on leisure activities and or train/bus/boat ride? For example, if I want to visit a museum one day within the same location and no travel - does that count as One Day?
@SwitzerLanding18 күн бұрын
You have to activate flex days. Its up to you when you use them and if its worth it. So a free museum is not free if your pass is not active that day. Which if you aren’t traveling alot it probably wont make sense to use it

Hello, for only 2-days trip and plan to go to Interlaken-based places (Grindelwald, Lauterbrunnen, Jungfrau) which pass is the right one?

Unfortunately the answer is not that simple. Depends "exactly" how many trains you catch, from/to, how many days total ttravel, which mountains you go to etc. That is why I have a service for it. switzerlanding.com/rail-pass-selection-service/?swcfpc=1 You can calculate it yourself, go to all the websites and get the prices. Plus there are 4 passes that are relevant to that exact trip you talk about. So it is nearly impossible for me to give you an answer just like that. Sorry. If you want to look at my service you can, its cheap for what I actually do, or you can watch my other video on "all" the train passes available. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWKulquno5J2aK8

If a funicular or cable car leads to an inhabited village they are included. So you can use the STP to eg Murren or Braunwald, or any of the several villages in Valais canton which are accessible only by cable car.

Thanks for the video.I appreciate you take the time to do these things and they are all very helpful in trip planning. I especially liked your video of Lucerne. This is the 2nd video of Swiss Travel Passes you did, I have watched and I feel that yes it's complicated but people should be encouraged to do the math (and I don't blame you for charging $25 for doing it for them because it's definitely worth it for some). I am going to be in Switzerland 15 days (after flying into Milan) and going to Lugano, Lucerne, Interlacken, Montreux, Zermatt and Pontresina and taking all the panoramic trains first class and doing most of all the mountain excursions involving gondolas, cable cars, trams and trains and found that for 2 people I will be saving almost $600 using the 1/2 fare Swiss Travel Pass. Yes I lose some convenience which I think is the biggest positive for the Swiss Pass but at least for me it's not worth an extra $600. Also there is 1 respectfully noteworthy omission I noticed on the 2 videos I watched. Regardless of which pass, with both passes you have to buy seat reservations on the panoramic trains in particular if you want to have good access to the scenery and the price is the same regardless of pass. Also I havent watched every video you have done, but of course buying a Berner Oberland or Jungfrau pass or Peak to Peak Pass (in season) in Zermatt also saves a good deal of money because as you know you get a 50% discount on these local mountain passes using either Swiss Pass. Again thank you for making these videos as they are very important to those of us who do not live in Switzerland. I usually always drive but I think if there is one reasonable exception to driving it is Switzerland.
@SwitzerLanding2 ай бұрын
Thanks George. Sounds like you have done your research. Yes, I have to do a video on the panoramic trains as that is a whole other kettle of fish as they say. Doing the numbers on train passes is complicated and even with the numbers, it is sometimes a matter of experience to decide which is best in which situation. I have had so many different clients doing such a variety of trips it can get quite confusing. But everyone has different needs and desires. And figuring out which pass to use can save you tonnes of money, even if the SBB does not want you to know about it :>

Hello from Basel, short but informative video, I think it's good. However, the city ticket option is usually a day ticket, which may not make sense if, for example, you want to go from the airport to the hotel (and then fall straight into bed there anyway). In some cases, a simple public transport ticket might be cheaper. I would also like to mention the SBB app, which is just as easy to use and you have the ticket right on your cell phone.
