Oh happy memories. In my preteen and teenage years I got into fly tying, making spinner baits, small frogs, and crabs from corks. There was an elderly man working in the sporting goods department at the long gone GEM member store near home. He was into crafting baits and always seamed to have the next kit I needed under the counter. Eventually, boats came into the picture and deep sea fishing became a regular thing to fill my families freezer. Unfortunately, Beautiful Bride has developed an allergy to all seafood, shellfish, crustaceans and yes, even fresh water fish. She can not roll sushi unless wearing gloves for protection. My boating days may be over unless I plan to "go it alone." We have no idea why she can consume limited amounts of sardines. I still make emergency fishing kits and have a desire to teach our young troops the skills needed to feed themselves in the wild.

This is an absolutely beautiful and amazing story from your life and experience. Thank you for sharing all these memories with us. I actually never knew seafood allergy can be developed in any phase of life. I found so much of common from my teenage years in your story, just thinking of a bait shop and fishing time I’ve enjoyed is making me feel I have spent those days with value and unique memories for whole life. Thank you again, Jack! I think you should go fishing at every opportunity and enjoy the moments 👍😀

Man, this DIY project worked out fantastic! The real beauty beyond how well it works is the low cost of raw material. Over here in the Philippines, you will almost never find a scrap of metal lying around. There is an army of people collecting metal and recyclable plastics to sell at "junk shops" along the road sides. Not to worry, you could purchase directly from the folks doing the collecting, trade with them what you have for what you want, or for a slight mark-up, purchase what you want from the junk shop. Yeah, I need one of these so we may grill across the road on vacant lots if there is laundry hanging in the carport. Beautiful Bride and the troops dislike "smoke flavored" laundry! Thank you for the idea and the post.

Dear Jack, I am happy to hear from you and thank you for liking the project, as here, “you know better than me “ in US even though scrap and junk is collected, not much use is being utilized by the population itself. I can just think of Alaska, where the junk yards are little bit more popular than the other states as folks love to shop and buy stuff not thinking of getting all the components from let’s say neighbors or the junkyards to make DIY Projects. Countries like Philippines, China, Japan - value all the useful things that can be found in junkyards and know exactly how to use them.

Believe it or not, we have a dish in the Philippines named beef bulalo that is much like this. It is popular both at home and in restaurants. It has a rich flavor and is inexpensive because beef shanks are used. I will certainly share this recipe with Beautiful Bride. I am guessing no one at the table will dare reach in front of her when this dish is placed on the table. Thank you for posting this backyard camp and cook.

Thank you so much for warm words and the like of the recipe. This dish is really an elixir for bone, gut, and post surgery recovery and health and indeed is very inexpensive to make, but has so much health and healing value. I was happy to share this and love to hear that there is an analogue in Philippines, as I am sure, there are other countries where this recipe is popular and being served as healthy meal 😀

The main two poles like (A) are digged in the ground?
@JEBOOUTDOORSКүн бұрын
Hi, no, poles are spread aside to have tension. You will feel how to set them as you go. Just use pegs in the back to stretch the tarp and A shape will hold on place as you can see👍 thanks for asking

I totally agree, some people can’t even look at them, some can’t touch them, we are all different and unique 😊. Great start would be to go fishing and set up a worm on a hook, my friend used latex gloves as he could not touch them 👍
