Here's what I've learned after listening to all the hype about how 3D scan/print will revolutionize the parts making and availability world: 1. If you only need one or two small things forget about it, nobody wants to scan/print your stupid shit when they could be charging thousands to a larger scale customer 2. If they are interested your small crap will be the last thing on their list of things to get done 3. If you're not near them then you have to pay to ship your stuff and chances are that even in big cities you're not near anyone who knows what they're doing 4. The risk of loss, breakage and lack of clear understanding of what you want/need that would come from an in-person consult are all very real cost considerations 5. By the time you pay for your scan/print and all the BS to make it happen you've paid as much or more than just buying it new if that's what you're trying to avoid My overall impression is that this 3D is only done by giant companies for large companies or is a hobby for geeks trying to make some early money. However if you want to run a small business with tight time lines and a need for good follow up you'd better just buy your own 3D scanning and printing equipment. You can expect that to be as complicated if not more so than whatever business you're already in. Final thought is that 3D everything is no better than traditional mold, dye, buck and other traditional duplication processes. If you know a good local craftsman you're better off supporting him than chasing down geeks or corporate suits who have no intention of meeting the needs of someone on a tight budget. The 3D world is not a good fit for individual or small commercial makers of practical objects and probably won't be for another decade or so.

What's a patch? NURBS have different types of control handles right? Do they have different names for different manipulation types i.e. like simple points or handles like typical bazier curve?

I have a question. Is the fact that a recording can be seen even in open light only a function of placing the film between the object and the laser light? If the laser beam projects the object and the film separately, in a triangular arrangement, will the recording only appear as a result of the laser light? Can the c-rt20 holographic film, which can be ordered, record laser light of any color at the same time, thus creating a colored hologram, or are there separate monochrome films that can only be exposed under the influence of a laser? When making a hologram, are we allowed to use lenses to guide the laser or do they only worsen the coherence? I noticed in the hologram kit that there is no lens on the red laser, that's why I'm asking. I also observed that the three lasers are not physically tuned exactly to one axis, only approximately. In this case, doesn't it happen that we get three offset images on the disc on the blue green red channel? It doesn't fit in my head. thank you very much

This video really makes me want to try DCG but at at the same time makes me wonder if its worth the risk, seeing that it should be handled almost like anthrax. Regardless, thank you for sharing all that knowledge, not many do that to such extent and quality, might as well build some glove boxes so I can make such beautiful holograms, and maybe also do other kind of experiments that can make use of a glove box.

6:24 I'd fine-align again after deleting the floor. One object has a floor, the other does not. This might confuse the aligner. Also, because these are 2 different objects, each might have an ever so slight scaling deviation from the other. I suspect this is where the 0.2mm error came from

So the analogy of NURBS & polygons in 2D design is: *NURBS models = vector graphics / polygon meshes = pixel graphics* Vectors/NURBS are _non-rasterized_ paths whereas pixels/polygons are _rasterized_ images Or in the most general lingo-Illustrator vs Photoshop
