Meh... you can get 18 rotisserie chickens for about 10 bucks a piece. The "value" is really nil. The only offset is that they can produce eggs while you're waiting to harvest.

OMG... Saved from Major Mishap- Finally clear information and clear images. Thank you! The additional still shots were SO helpful. I'm now sure I got the sex of my 6 week old buns wrong. Going back to recheck.

I love that you make apending time enjoying your wife's company part if your daily routine. My husband and I do the same thing. Our relationship is the foundation of the family and home, if we neglect that we jeopardise everything else.

WOW! he's never used them and he's making a video? THose cups are HINGED to teh mounting bracket using tiny plastic 'nubs' that break off, letting the cup and spring come off leaving a hole where all the water runs out on the ground. They are FLIMSY 3 out of five went in the first month of use. CHICKENS, as it urns out, are relatively heavy and, when fighting, don't watch out for the furnishings. Trust ME, I'm no influencer, just a guy raising chickens.

Sorry your experience wasn’t good. Influencer isn’t my life, it’s a hobby. I’ve been raising chickens for years and I still use these cups to this day. I’ve had to replace a couple, averaging maybe one cup a year. Mine usually became an issue after some hard freezes where I think the frozen water created an issue. Cups never broke, just float, spring mechanism stopped working properly. Unscrew it and screw new one in and I was back in business.

Here's where multi-generation living can help. Even having an older friend at church, a neighbor or parent close can be a boon. Errands run, am or pm feedings/chores, meeting delivery/repair folks, and even just eyeballs on your place for security, animal welfare in heat or cold - the more items you delegate to someone that cares and has a schedule that allows them to work when you cant can make a HUGE difference. The synergy can help you level up.

Cornish Cross were selectively bred to grow fast and be butchered at about 6 weeks. I don't like the flavor as well, also when my folks raised them sometimes they would drop dead because the hearts are too small for the size of the bird, and often they would have bent bones that wouldn't support them to walk if my folks waited overly long to butcher. I like the dual purpose birds better for flavor and health of the bird, but I can understand why people get the Cornish Cross.

I agree about hemp bedding. I’ve never tried it either because I know I’ll never spend that kind of money on betting. If you have a little flock and a little coop, it might work great but I’ve got 15 chickens and I can’t afford to use hemp bedding.

When my Polish were little, I handled and talked to them every day, so as chicks, they never ran from me. They ran to me, especially if you have treats that are small enough for them to eat. The grey one may be a Blue White Crested Polish, but because of the different splashes of grey, it might be a Blue Splash White Crested Polish. Personally, I would round the tops of their roosts otherwise, they'd be a little rough on their feet. Good luck! Enjoy!

We raised and butchered 25 Cornish cross for the first time a few months back. We have another 25 on pasture currently and probably will be doing another 25 before winter. My husband and I were vegan for roughly 10 years, we always knew it was a temporary way of eating for us until we could raise and hunt our own meat. For us, the bottom line was quality control of what goes into the meat, quality of life for the animals and finally shouldering the responsibility of taking the lives of those creatures. It never felt right being disconnected from the reality of what it takes to have animal protein in my diet. I wanted to consume animal products but not enough to buy them on Styrofoam trays wrapped in plastic completely disconnected from any responsibility for those lives. Cost and effort aren't factored into my decision, The bottom line is, if I want to eat meat I'm doing all the dirty work.
