Great video! In regard to the issue with subgroup soloing , I think I have an alternate solution. Try soloing a single track in the subgroup and then, while holding down the shift button, tap solo on the remaining tracks in that subgroup. That should allow you to solo the desired group of tracks. Depending on the total number of ALL tracks you have, this can be a much faster workflow than the inverse… i.e.muting the tracks outside of the subgroup. If you haven’t already discovered this, give it a shot! Thanks again for the great content.

Great review / explanation of this unit! You actually explained it better than the Pioneer consultants on the KZbin channels. The only questions I have are; 1. When adjusting that mag clamp, does it cause the record and or control vinyl to rise up off of the platter? 2. Are the torque features, within the unit itself, strong enough for scratch DJs to perform high-level scratch / beat juggling routines without the aid of the mag clamp
@djsoo
@djsoo 3 ай бұрын
@@OgDj2024 1. When you loosen the clamp for a “slippier” feel, it does raise the centre off the platter. Kind of like how on the Rane 12s, they would give you washers to put under the slipmat for a slippier feel. 2. Absolutely. The feel is modelled after the old vestax pdx turntables which are heavily coveted, but are also hanpin super oem decks which are great for scratching.

@@djsoo thank you for replying! What’s very funny to me is, I posed the same questions to one of the Pioneer reps on KZbin and he could not answer my question. It seems like the Pioneer guys become very annoyed when you ask them more than one question, because all they wanna do is promote their product and sell it to you. Then, after you get the product, you’re frustrated because you don’t know what’s going on when running into issues with it, and you become even more frustrated trying to figure things out through Customer Service.

Exactly you always duplicate tracks over to a new sequence or whatever they're calling it now then you can mute the pads you do not want to be heard and depending on how many times you duplicate to make your song length plus what you add to each transition is the same work. What is happening with AKAI is they are implementing MPCs to have a combination of FL Studio, Pro Tools, Ableton, and Logic Pro built in the box This really enhances the in-the-box standalone user because in a DAW you would make the standard grid changes anyway trust me on this I talked to akai many moons ago and gave them suggestions on the way to scale they did and the amazing thing about algorithms is you can constantly add remove and change looks and feel but instead of those users that are complaining get in the akai website and send them a message that truly how we have come even this far.

Akai should introduce proper midi mutes alongside the audio mutes (like on OPZ) because those two serve different purposes. I personally never used track mutes because I use mutes during mixing. However this method allows for still having mutes for mixing and also use mutes for arranging.

The problem isn’t finding a work around. The issue is having hundreds of old projects and some unfinished projects that are broken because they use the old work flow that no longer can be opened without extensive rework to repair. Imagine old Cubase, Ableton Live, or Studio One projects that are no longer accessible because the new software reads them differently. That’s what is happening with v2.15 to 3.0. All the song mode compositions with track mutes break. The mutes are gone and unless you remember how you arranged each song and can rapidly rebuild them, you have your work cut out for you. Steinberg, Ableton, and Presonus would hear the wraith of its user base if they did this.

On the 12s vs crss 12s though the fact the pitch is midi makes me think there are solutions that could come in the future. The reloops even if my pitch were different on the decks would double at the right bpm. As well as loaded a track with sync on if the pitch was manipulated would still be the right bpm. The cross 12 isn’t there yet. As well as midi conflicts with the s11

I got 3 12s for sale lol. My biggest problem with the 12s is they drift off beat. I found a video on KZbin . The motors are the same as the NS7. Not sure how long they were sitting in a warehouse but someone figured out the lube in motor lost consistency. Maybe from temperature variations in shipping from over seas. I followed this video and took apart the motor and lubed them. They felt like 1200s after that. Motor was way lighter and easier to manipulate. A couple of my friends had 12a that were soooo tight it felt like I was mixing on a conveyer belt. Thank you for the video. You explained your stuff very well. I was about to get 3000s cuz all the clubs have them and the super accuracy but I’ve been confidently able to do long mash ups with about 10% of the corrections I’d have to do with the 12s

Its a ridiculous omission that I noticed immediately and it broke how I use my MPC. Several tracks of plug-ins that I MIDI learn with my MIDI Fighter Twister (knob twists for parameter tweaks and knob presses to mute the plug in. When I found that you could no longer mute a track with the audio tails of the plug in still playing I was pretty pissed off. So back to 2.15 for me. They just need to add a setting 'allow audio tails on mute '. I did this workaround already this morning but its far too cumbersome to be any use long term. Classic Akai 🙄
@djsoo

@@DanChippendaleMusic yea it’s kinda annoying, but as someone who uses a lot of outboard gear and routes it back to the mpc, I’ve been dealing with the same type of setup for a while now (midi track for sequencing, separate audio track for audio back into the mpc). You eventually get used to it, but the new system of not allowing you to place tracks in specific grid slots makes it more difficult - especially now that audio tracks appear in the track mute section

@@djsoo yeah this was what I found. It makes the pads confusing and creates more work (having to rename eg track 1 MIDI and track 1 Audio). Would be fine if you could move all midi tracks to the 2nd page of tracks. I do wonder if Akai do much UX and UI research before they go into production
@djsoo
@djsoo 4 ай бұрын
@@DanChippendaleMusic yea, the best thing i've thought about is loading up the project with a bunch of "dummy" tracks as a template and then having your audio tracks on the 2nd page. It's not ideal though because then your mixer ends up having a bunch of unused tracks on it which sort of defeats the purpose of the new, more streamlined mixer.
