I ran an FX-8350 from 2016 to 2022, paired with a GTX 960 4gb, and a 1600x900 monitor. At some point I upgraded from 8gb system ram to 16gb. I was pretty happy with that system, it never gave me any trouble and though I couldn't run newer titles at maxed out settings or anything, I could run them at a performance level I found acceptable. For what I paid for that system when I built it, I have *no* complaints about what I ultimately got out of it.

There is barely any difference between 7900x / 9900x / 10900x. Or any derivatives up to 7980xe and its 9th and 10th gen variants. That was the main issue with these editions, there was barely any upgrade. The difference between 7980XE and 10980XE is 10%, and don't forget, we skipped an entire generation (9980XE). I miss these though, as they indeed had a lot more PCIe lanes (48 / 44, respectively for the 7th and 10th gen).

The 900 series is quite neat in that it retains the original design of the 4G and has similar dimensions, while having a much larger screen and touchpad. The 900A also came with an Atom CPU instead of a Celeron.

This and the 701 were peak EEE PC. The Celeron processor was weak, but at least it was a real laptop CPU. Early Atoms which followed were even more underpowered, even if the rest of the hardware improved. I went from a 701 (Celeron 900 underclocked to 630Mhz) to a 901 (Atom N270) and the 700 honestly felt like it had more horsepower), can't really argue about the battery life on the 901 though, that was pretty amazing.

I first bought my old RX5600 XT in late 2020, to replace my GTX1060 3GB. Even got the ASUS model for lower price, since they sold the last low tier model before I got there. It had served me well in my past I5 8600K build for a couple of years, later going into my dad's 11600K PC, when I bought a Ryzen 7600X & RX6750 XT in xmas 2023. He plays helldivers 2 daily on medium settings w/ 90+fps. No hiccups, no stutters, and he's usually first guy loaded in missions. Think about how this GPU would still be competitive to this day, if AMD upped the stock VRAM to 8GB or more. Pretty impressive ngl.

I just bought my first Alienware laptop ever an m16r2 i do love how high quality it is but i did have massive windows problems that I'm not sure if its cause of dell or windows itself as my other windows laptops didn't have the same problems... I do wish Alienware still made designs like their older models

Overclocking record was made with an amd fx processor over 8ghz back then. I bought the fx6300 black edition around 2016 for a pc build. That build was the best pc I ever had. 2 earlier pcs were all Intel cpus and they were good but I think its really important to match components so no bottle necks occur. Oh, and I just overclocked the fx6300 from 3,5ghz to 4,2ghz and its even more responsive now working in certain cpu heavy apps. Ryzen is the future though.

The thing with using an FX processor now is that, in theory, it'll perform better in newer games due to those games actually using all the cores, rather than 1-2 cores that games released in 2012 would have used.

i used to have this laptop, but it had an HD 5850m instead of the gpu featured here. Same cpu though. unfortunately, i was using a recycled 40gb hdd (from a broken ps3) that was causing bsod's all the time. I thought it was the gpu dying so I think I sold it or traded it for desktop parts lol. Used it to play League, SC2 (briefly), and Neverwinter. neverwinter always ran like shit, but again, that was probably due to the mostly dead hdd freezing and crashing all the time

Back in 2012, software companies were only starting to learn how to program software for use with multi core CPUs. The AMD FX 8350 is still able to hold it's own when paired with a good GPU even in 2024.

I ran this CPU for several years a few years ago, its an absolute bitch to keep from thermal throttling you really need a nice large cooler or there is no point trying to use it it will kill itself by thermal throttling.
@uzor123Ай бұрын
Still running on this since 2011. Meltdown spectre windows patch has downgraded it performance but you can undo the patch. Lack of TME is probably the biggest thing about these older cpus that bothers me.

true, I got my Pentium 4 prescott 3.4ghz oc to 3.9ghz woth stock cooler paired with a P4P800 SE and 3GB DDR1 with HD 4670 AGP and I played BFBC2 with 18 to 25fps. the games that force me to upgrade was GTA 4 where it has only 2-5 FPS x) I was so happy when I could watch a youtube video at 1080p due to HW accelerating :D at the beginning I had 2.6ghz celeron with gf4 440 ->ati 9550 and then the HD 4670 and 512mb ddr1 to the 3gb :D it were normal for me to play under the 40fps and now I lost the habit to play with low FPS :D

Have one which I used for years. Going to revive it for daily use as it will do everything I ever need it to - including heavy duty video compression. Only thing I am going to add is a m.2 nvme SSD on a PCI card to max out OS performance. Memory is cheap but hard to get big enough sticks to make a difference. Will be running Linux so the dreaded Win11 bottleneck is a non-issue.

The Pentium 4 didn't pave the way for modern CPUs or even the Core 2 Duo. Intel instead did a total 180 and based the Core 2 Duo on the later Pentium III.

Back in the day, I had bullt a fx6100, over clocked to 4.5ghz, paired with 2 6870s in crossfire. Welp, it did ok, but the weak support for crossfire, and the poor optimization for those bulldozer chips made it really not worth my while.

Currently watching on a Q9550/GTX285 on Windows 11 in my living room. I use this as a triple boot retro/media pc on my old school Samsung 42inch plasma TV (Almost HDCRT quality). This year it's played through the OG Halo PC release on Win XP, Halo 2 Vista on Win7, CoD 1-WaW on XP and MW2 on Win11 (Thanks Valve, arseholes). Still plan on getting through the OG STALKER trilogy on each appropriate OS before the release of STALKER 2. I'm amazed at how usable this thing is in 2024 and Windows 11 with only 4GB of DDR2 (MOBO only has 2 slots). Compared to my 11th Gen i9 Dell, I almost don't see a difference in basic usage like youtube and amazon video. It's my internet speed that limits me more than anything.

1:40 I went to my local goodwill computer works a few weeks ago looking for just a heatsink for a 1366 system with an i7-920 I have. Not only did I find the stock cooler for $2 in the scrap pile, there was a Gigabyte G1 killler EATX motherboard attached to it, AND today I found out it has an i7-990X on it as well, so far everything seems functional. These systems are dirt cheap now, but pretty sure even a Ryzen 1600X would destroy this old beast.
