Any of yall know if a frx would fit on a dean?
@TristanRiversMusic
@TristanRiversMusic Ай бұрын
Thanks for watching and commenting! The answer is maybe? It depends on the hardware of the guitar. I answered a lot of those questions in the video I released after this one "Top Floyd Rose FRX Questions Answered: Take 2" . Ultimately, if you really wanted to install a floyd on your guitar I would guess the FRX would be the easiest. Even if it requires modification and a tech to do it. The design requires a lot less drilling etc to install than a standard floyd rose bridge usually would. If your guitar fits the requirements to properly install an FRX it is very easy to do with almost no alterations at all.

Watt aboot intonation? i removed the "intonation" screws like on a normal floyd rose but those dont actually hold anything in place it looks like they just welded ALL of the saddles together to be stuck on that position, its absurd, what if you have different gauge strings, help my guitar is now useless because of this

I never see these demos with a rollernut installed on a LP. It's the big one flaw on Gibson LP design. A rollerbridge also helps, but that nut is the really big one. A rollernut surely would mean much less hassle than a locking one, and also stop the strings from binding.

Definitely looks a lot easier and faster than with a regular Floyd, but I'd still say if you are gonna play live shows, just get 2 guitars so you don't have to worry about it. Always good to have a backup anyway because you never know. Seriously thinking about getting one of these for one of my guitars.

I wonder if you could use one of those nutbusters on one of these instead of the included locking nut? They’re supposed to work pretty good as a locking nut without having to modify the existing nut or head.

Seems easier than doing a pinch harmonic and the grabbing the bar. I learned by flicking up from the fret next to the string ( if that makes sense lol).
@TristanRiversMusic
@TristanRiversMusic 8 ай бұрын
Honestly, it is! There is much less coordination needed beyond getting your finger right at the harmonic node. I'm trying to imagine what you mean by that haha. Like you do an "upstroke" with your fretting hand to make the string vibrate then touch the harmonic?

That's unfortunate! I feel like I was kind of lucky with my entire experience with my FRX. I was able to install it easily and it took almost nothing to set up and intonate it. I don't think I had to do much to get my D-Tuna installed and properly in tune too. What went wrong with yours?
@masonstone179
@masonstone179 8 ай бұрын
Everything. My neck isn't high enough for my frx, so the frx was slamming into the body of my guitar and I couldn't get the d-tuna in which probably was because I couldn't get the frx on.

Thanks for the comment and adding some more info to Dime's approach to whammy harmonics! I watched a video on the subject not long after I uploaded this video and heard about the wah. I don't know how I never noticed that before! Thanks, I love that Ibanez guitar I used in the video. I do actually have an entire pack of fresh bushings for my Edge bars. I just don't change them enough lol. I find it more convenient to just tighten a floyd's (or Edge Zero's) collar screw. But I noticed that Dimebag even had his bar pretty loose so I guess I just need to practice his way a bit more! Thanks again for watching!

@@TristanRiversMusic haha, fair enough! Personally, it winds me up when the bar does not stay put so I change my bushes whenever it gets loose. One other tip is to use a tiny section of a plastic bag - the ones most strings come in is perfect - as an interim solution. Again, thanks for the video and reply.

Assuming you are referring to a Gibson cover like a Les Paul (the FRX fits many different guitars), it doesn't look like it would. Really tempted by one. How much does it affect the action? Does it make it harder to get a lower action as opposed to the stock TOM?
@TristanRiversMusic
@TristanRiversMusic 10 ай бұрын
I think it really depends on the guitar. To me, Gibson Les Pauls seem to have a decent variance in neck angle from one to the other. That would have an impact on the action I think. The Studio I put the FRX on seemed to work very well. I installed it in no time and had it set up and playing nicely. From what I gather, some people weren't as lucky with their guitar? Mine plays great. I can get close action and enough travel in both directions with the bar to do whatever whammy antics I want. Thanks for watching and for the question.

@TristanRiversMusic
@TristanRiversMusic 11 ай бұрын
I'm glad to say, I've never had a serious problem with tuning when using it. How do you have to wiggle it? I know that most floating bridges seem to have a different resting point when you pull up vs push down on the bar. If I pull up, usually I will give the bar a quick nudge down just in case. I have heard of others having a more severe tuning issue with it. Mine never goes out by much and all it takes is a little knock down to put it back. Same with most of my original and licensed floyd rose bridges.

So it technically works with a HB EX 84 modern ?
@TristanRiversMusic
@TristanRiversMusic 11 ай бұрын
Yes. It is designed to work on a guitar like that. As long as it has a tailpiece and enough room for the bridge to mount, it should be fine. I suppose the one flaw with it mounting to the stop tailpiece rather than the bridge is that a tailpiece doesn't need to be measured in the exact place like a bridge. There is always a potential issue with intonating the bridge on some guitars if the tailpiece is in a bad place. But that Harley Benton looks like it should work just fine with an FRX.

@TristanRiversMusic
@TristanRiversMusic 11 ай бұрын
Hi, sorry I couldn't get to your question sooner. Unfortunately, the vast majority of RGs wouldn't be able to use the FRX bridge without serious modification. I know that lots of RGs have fixed bridges, however, they are string through body and don't have a stop tailpiece (like a Les Paul or some other Gibson style guitar). The bridge mounts to the posts of the tailpiece. IF you absolutely were going to put a Floyd Rose style bridge on an RG, the FRX would take less modification than a traditional one and I would consider it. But if you were thinking of putting it on what I think is that RG652AHMFX in the video you posted, I would say don't do it. Those are beautiful guitars and it is always good to have a nice fixed bridge guitar too. If you can, get another guitar that already has a floating bridge. What's great about Ibanez these days is they make many of their guitars in both fixed and floating bridge versions. Hope that helps!

Pretty good for one take! On the fence about my next guitar - to trem or not to trem? I'm a stickler about needing to stay in tune. I also think that to an extent the trem bar is like another "instrument" I'll have to learn to do it justice. But I will say your video is the first one to ever point out the details, pros and cons to a nonuser. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video -- and the ones before and after this one. They help Trem-- endously!
