Pretty good for one take! On the fence about my next guitar - to trem or not to trem? I'm a stickler about needing to stay in tune. I also think that to an extent the trem bar is like another "instrument" I'll have to learn to do it justice. But I will say your video is the first one to ever point out the details, pros and cons to a nonuser. I appreciate the time and effort you put into this video -- and the ones before and after this one. They help Trem-- endously!

So for a dean with a tunamatic but no stop tail piece...you'd just have to drill 2 more holes. I guess it's still easier than routing out the guitar for a normal floyd.

Just in case anyone is interested... I was working on a Dimebag Dean from hell Baby ML...I installed the Floyd Rose frx... had no stop tailpiece.. I drilled two more holes.. and it works great.

So I have a 2018 Gibson Flying V. On discussing with support at FL, they've told me that the FRX won't fit a Flying V. I though that odd since the man himself installed one on an SG here on KZbin, which has the same flat body.

Tristan, thank u so much for this video,as every video for the FRX imply that installing is on the tuneamatic bridge studs. I have a string- thru warlock, was looking to getting a FRX to have the tremelo, glad to have seen yr video as to prevent the expense& heartaches that would've occurred w the reality (no stop tailpiece-- cant install). Great video, tone & clarification- keep up the good (&honest) work!!

I have a Warlock Body (string Through) but I have gone ahead and ordered a Black Floyd Rose FRX. I will just have to drill for the Stop Tailpiece, and do what I have to to accommodate the FRX requirements. I am giving it a fresh neck, Painting it in Dragon Scales, Clear coating it, and adding Seymour Duncan Humbuckers. Even the knobs are custom picked due to the colors of the guitar. If I can make this work, it should be worth all the work I am doing on it.

@@chazzyork5589 Good luck w yr major refit/ project. I don't know the exact drillbit size for the studs,but I've always 'sized' the studs placing drillbit on bottom end--remember the body of studs will be wider to the top,but makes for a snug fit when inserted. Am sure you'll do a great job! Also,dont forget the body ground (wire) though it may be running into control cavity frm bridge.

I have a BC Rich warlock body that I picked up recently. It is just the body. No neck, No hardware. Not even pickups. It is a string through body guitar. What I have in mind is to Drill the holes for the Stop Tail piece. I pray that will work. I am completely refinishing it and rebuilding it. I couldn't even find the right neck for it so I had to get one with 24 frets which I can modify slightly to make it work. I am Doing the guitar with a fine detail custom paint job, and adding Seymour Duncan pickups. I don't mind Drilling to accommodate the addition of the parts necessary to make the FRX work. I do wish I knew the size of hole I will need to Drill into the body though. It will no longer be string through body but I am OK With that. I just really wish I had a Guitar knowledgeable person to talk to about it. This is turning into one major job so far.

just put one on an sg and that 0 point screw after I removed it scraped as well.I thought it was the spring as well,mine was sideways.

Do they have one of these for a strat type bridge with a flat top body? What I have is a Brian May signature. Great guitar but the two point tremolo sucks. Brian Mays have a bottomless nut and a zero fret. Wonder if I would even need the locking nut, or if it would fit.

Watt aboot intonation? i removed the "intonation" screws like on a normal floyd rose but those dont actually hold anything in place it looks like they just welded ALL of the saddles together to be stuck on that position, its absurd, what if you have different gauge strings, help my guitar is now useless because of this

That's a great question that I am surprised I haven't got before. I can't say for sure it would work but I imagine it probably should. It mounts in a way that would not matter to the handedness of the guitar. As well, the guitar still uses the original nut whether you install the top locks or not. The one thing you would have to be okay with is the bar being on the bass string side of the bridge (like Hendrix or SRV's Number One). Thanks for the question!

Yes. The FRX is designed to work with Epiphone guitars (as well as most guitars with stop tails with either imperial or metric hardware). Thanks for the question!

These things are kinda hard to find. Did FR stop making them? Anyway, one popped up on Reverb last night pretty much new in the box. I was lucky enough to snag it for a decent price. I plan to install it on my ESP/Ltd Eclipse guitar. Pretty excited!

I wouldn't be shocked if they are not making them currently. It says the FRX is sold out on the Floyd Rose website. There are places online where they seem to be in stock but you are right. Much harder to find them now. Congrats on finding one for yourself! Hope it worked out for you.

Yes. It is designed to work on a guitar like that. As long as it has a tailpiece and enough room for the bridge to mount, it should be fine. I suppose the one flaw with it mounting to the stop tailpiece rather than the bridge is that a tailpiece doesn't need to be measured in the exact place like a bridge. There is always a potential issue with intonating the bridge on some guitars if the tailpiece is in a bad place. But that Harley Benton looks like it should work just fine with an FRX.

Hi, sorry I couldn't get to your question sooner. Unfortunately, the vast majority of RGs wouldn't be able to use the FRX bridge without serious modification. I know that lots of RGs have fixed bridges, however, they are string through body and don't have a stop tailpiece (like a Les Paul or some other Gibson style guitar). The bridge mounts to the posts of the tailpiece. IF you absolutely were going to put a Floyd Rose style bridge on an RG, the FRX would take less modification than a traditional one and I would consider it. But if you were thinking of putting it on what I think is that RG652AHMFX in the video you posted, I would say don't do it. Those are beautiful guitars and it is always good to have a nice fixed bridge guitar too. If you can, get another guitar that already has a floating bridge. What's great about Ibanez these days is they make many of their guitars in both fixed and floating bridge versions. Hope that helps!

It should work with any tuneomatic/stopbar guitar, but I think they have a disclaimer some guitars will need a bit of wood removal for the big spring on the underside.
