I was in the 11th grade at the time and watched this show every day after-school. Our local ABC station did not broadcast this show so we watched it on a snowy UHF channel with tinfoil on the rabbit ears. Thank you for posting, it brought back fond memories.

Wow i never knew Riva Shane was romantically involved with the original Alan Spaulding, i knew he brought her to town on a retainer to screw up Billy Lewis and Vanessa's relationship . And years later Riva connected with Alan who found her in a Amish community not knowing who she was..I thought for sure Riva would become the next miss Spaulding...But she gravitated back to Josh her destiny,.

0:26 im thinking when Josh shot that gun he knew Morgan was out riding knowing she was also pregnant with Kelly's baby, He was quite the villain at one time until he connected with Riva, i always thought he was sneaky back then so perhaps Annie Dutton's shenanigans amongst he and Riva was his Karma ..

Thank you for posting this! I thought Robyn Grace playing the girl who liked Tony was terrific. Her protective mother was played by Patrice Wymore, widow of movie legend Errol Flynn. I think Cindy Carol played the other blonde girl. She also had the title role in Gidget Goes to Rome. So great to see Tony Dow! Always so authentic and likable. Plus The Castaways performing their great Liar, Liar song - Fantastic! I used to watch this show nearly every day after school at about age 13. Good memories! Thanks again.

I would love to see more episodes. These scenes are so long and drawn out. And the bad acting from 1972. And the organ, and the announcer’s gentle voice. A totally different universe. 🌎

Loved watching "Never Too Young" and Where the Action Is" between 4 and 5 pm (ET), after getting home from high school. Sad to see these shows end but thankfully some remnants were saved. Tony Dow and "Leave It To Beaver" reruns survive daily on METV.

How many of our moms or aunts or even dads learned about putting a box of Arm & Hammer Baking Soda in the fridge? I remember this commercial from when I was a kid but I got into the habit from seeing my mom do this - which I'm sure she got from - watching this commercial too!

Interesting one. I never knew that the radio versions of soap operas were still on as late as 68! There were still some radio dramas, westerns etc. on until 1962 or so.

Oh yeah I never knew Riva was romantically involved with the original Alan Spaulding.. I can see her chosing Josh over Alan unlike All the other dummies who fell for his charm such as Elizabeth Jackie Diane of course then here comes Hope and even the gullible drama queen Rita who had the perfect doctor who loved and treasured her...Riva was the toughest of all of those women... Riva looked better with the third and final Alan who passed away sitting on a park bench, I could tolerate his ruthlessness and backstabbing but the first the Original Alan was much more Narcissistic and controlling the narrative according to his fragile ego..

Thanks for the memories--for a couple of years there my friends and I would race home from school to watch One Life to Live at three-thirty and then switch over to NBC at 4pm for Somerset. I started watching Somerset around the time when Jordan Charney was Sam Lucas, Anne Wedgeworth was Lahoma Lucas, Ernest Thompson was Tony, and Joel Crothers was Julian Canell. Then Bibi Besch and Audrey Landers came on the show as mother and daughter Eve and Heather Lawrence--Audrey had the greatest cheekbones! And Ernest Thompson was hot.

I'm pretty sure that my grandmother watched this. The opening was the medical professional symbol of a staff with serpents set against a white background, while Jack Costello said "Young Doctor Malone....brought to you by...." with the day's sponsor, the sponsor product would be seen over the medical professional symbol. The theme music over Jack Costello's announcement is an adaptation from Dohnanyi's "Variations On A Nursery Theme--Waltz section". Just like when Johnny Olsen would go "From New York City it's time to play, THE MATCH GAME! This portion of the Match Game brought to you today by Downey, the fabric softener with deep Downey softness and extra whiteness too. And now here's your host, GENE RAYBURN!"

Was this a nighttime episode? NBC would occasionally commission a special episode to fill time if a movie or game ran short. I wonder if this was on the shelf for such an event.

I remember the Doctors well, it was on tv still in the mid 70s and, my neighbor used to be one proud momma and, would tell everyone her son, was on the Doctors and, had a leading roll, he actually was one of the doctors! Last name, was Ellis! Yes, kid you not he left our small town of Ohio to move to Hollywood to be a actor. My brother and, his youngest brother are best friends. I can tell you he no longer lives in Hollywood and is living back at home. Yeah, my brother talked to him at length 2 yrs ago when, my brother came home for a brief visit! 3:36

Would love to see a 1976 episode of this if any exists out there, being the soap changed so much from it's 1970 origin. Kind of became a crime/drama kind of soap. Had Ted Danson, Bibi Besch, JoBeth Williams, Tina Sloan, Audrey Landers and a slew of others who didn't start out here in '70. Anyone know if they exist at all? I see the comments about either NBC not caring to preserve them or P&G feeling the same way. Hope these later ones didn't all get wiped.

"So what do you do for a living?" I'm the organist on Somerset. The soap opera." "Oh--really?" "Yeah, I play to transition between scenes, and just before commercial breaks. Sometimes in the middle of a commercial break, to remind people the show's coming back soon. The opening music, the end music. Sometimes when something really dramatic happens, like a woman getting gaslighted by a guy dressed as a scary clown to drive her mad. That requires more creativity. Pay's not much, but workload's light. I moonlight at a local church, and there's always the ice skating rink." "It doesn't sound like a very secure job." "Oh nonsense! Soap organists go back to the early days of radio! It's an enduring tradition that will last for generations. What are they going to do, record some canned synth music, and play it over and over? Where's the artistry in that?"
@christopherlyons59008 ай бұрын
Never watched thsi one. Getting a real Dark Shadows vibe from it. Which makes sense, given it had just concluded the year before this. No supernatural angle I can see, but gothic as hell. Soaps used to be cast almost entirely from the theater, particualrly in New York. The level of performance was a lot higher than it is now.

Not knowing who any of these people are, I was a bit confused by the fact this young woman of seemingly good character, a character in an early 70's soap opera, was getting ready for bed and acting not the least bit perturbed by this very large man watching her do it. It seemed rather--suggestive. Their rapport was oddly flirtatious, yet there was no indication he was going to make a move on her, or was even thinking about it. They are very comfortable with each other. Googled. He was playing her brother. Who used to do this clown character for her when they were kids. So we're supposed to think maybe it's him gaslighting her. Except look how big the actor is. It can't possibly be him in the clown suit. Like half his size. And yes, I know who it turned out to be. Googled that too. That being said, kind of disappointed, because they had good chemistry, and she's got none with the dweeby WASP who wants to marry her, ran in to comfort her when she screamed, and tell her she was just having a bad dream. Girl, you can do better. Hey, it's a soap. Maybe he's not really your brother by blood. They pulled that gag on As The World Turns once. I'm going to assume that's what happened here. Even though it didn't. ;)
