Hi I have a few questions. I’m 16 now, 2 more years to NS, I want to become an officer and sign on ah… 1. Does our eyesight and overall health matter to be selected for OCS? 2. Do we need / get to indicate our interest in OCS to be shortlisted, if so, how? 3. How was your NS journey like as an officer and do you have any tips or advice?

1. Your eyesight does not matter unless you want to be pilot. 2. Nearing the end of bmt will have this exercise to test your leadership ability. Do well for that. Another thing also is that you will abe asked whether you want to be a commander. Indicate you want to go ocs. 3. Watch my video of day in a life of an officer bah! Hope it helps :)

Sidetrack abit: Generally, all Army Officers have lot of advantages over others in all forms of applications. The advantages is simply that you have already proven you have leadership and command abilities. Next time if you are looking for a job, by indicating you served as Officer in your NS, half a battle won for the job pursuit.

Just curious were u from poly or A levels? How were ur results like? Also, did u ever like took up positions such as section or platoon IC?

I was from poly! My results were above average and I didn’t take up any section or platoon ic role during BMT

@@chionglun ok thank you for your advice! Btw I rly wanna go into command sch but recently I fell very ill high fever and all and had to stay out for 5 days MC total abt 7 days. Do you think this will affect my chances? Now I have to go for RT outfield and 4km route march

I know of people who fell sick and missed some trainings but still went to command school. Don’t be too disheartened! Just focus on what’s ahead and take it a step at a time. More importantly, it’s the friendship and memories that you forge which to me are most memorable. Just work hard while encouraging others, have fun and most importantly stay safe!

Hi can u explain your work out regine for yourself personally? Can u also explain what is 10s up and down (60s)? Is that 6 sets of 1 push up taking 10 seconds?

Hi! What I meant by 10s up and down is that you decline/elevate yourself as slowly as possible when you’re going down or up and do it for a total of 60s. So down (10s), up (10s) and so on until you reach 60s. That helped strengthen my upper body muscles. Honestly any push up workouts in general would help you greatly as long as you do it consistently every night before lights out!

So as long as you hit the 20 push up and 20 sit up mark for both the push up and sit up station you'll get the max 25 pt for each of them respectively? Or do you have to do more than 20 if 20 is the minimum?

You need to be able to do the max reps of 60 push ups (25 points) and 60 sit ups (25 points) to get a max score of 50 points.

Btw, no the machine doesn’t record a new low. The most important step is your form up before coming on the machine, not setting up properly will result the machine not calibrating properly hence the no counts. Find good machines? It’s a myth, every machine is the same. The difference is whether the machine needed recalibration or not, but if you have good form it will not affect you probably just need to go a little lower that’s all. I worked with the ELISS system for 5 years and still counting 👍🏼

I Served NSF Since 16 March 1988. Those Days, We Received Monthly Allowances, as Per The Enlistment Act. We Don't Receive Salaries, Unlike Workmen. Not sure What's Happening Nowadays. Salaries; Refers to Employer-Employee Relations, versus Enlistment Allowances.

I was from Sandbox! Cca won’t be everyday unless you are in the exco community, but it’s only busier nearing event periods. Squeeze in time after school, b4 cca n afterwards for your studies. Study smart like perhaps asking for tips n hints from others to narrow down the things you need to study

Very nice summary of the work of an officer. I hope you are able to talk to your CSM about procedures because he's the most experienced person in your company. I was in an SIR about 4 decades ago and I don't recall having to do so much PT in my unit -- so, NS 4 decades ago must've been a lot less "xiong" than now :) Here's my opinion: for people who think that NS is a waste of time, Chiong Lun's experience shows that it is what you make of it. If you're a commander at 18 -19 years old, you're just a kid right out of JC and yet you are given a very heavy responsibility to take care of your men. Not only is the responsibility heavy, you have to execute those responsibilities under *pressure* while you're still learning yourself! I really don't know anywhere else you can receive this trial by fire type experience which will turn out to be very valuable in the civilian world. Just my 2 cents.

I absolutely agree with everything that you said! With high pressure, stress and responsibility there will be times where one fails too. However, this is where we learn about our own flaws and failures so as to strive for continuous improvement. To me regardless of rank and role, army provides everyone an opportunity to learn, reflect and improve should one chooses to. Some roles may seem smaller than others but every role is important in making sure the army runs one way or another.
