@@pjones0426 Hi there! We have a variety of reading. Rather then schedule, I have a loose idea of books then I usually let her take the lead on what she would like to read. For example this year she's read some Harry Potter, Kate Decamilo, early American History books, and many others. It's all over the board really.

Would this be okay to start as a 6th grader? He knows grammar but struggles. I am looking for a spelling curriculum too we were using TGTB last year but this year we are struggling. So I think I would like to try this, I did receive the free lessons to try it
@knowledgebynature848019 күн бұрын
@@MicheleAnastasio-b5b I would think this could be a great place to start, especially since you have the free lessons to evaluate with. There may also be a placement option also. It starts put slow but does pick up rather quickly. Some of my favorite spelling curriculums are Phonetic Zoo by IEW, All About Spelling, and Spelling Connections, all 3 a slightly different style. Hopefully one of those might be a fit for your student.

It's awesome to hear you speaking on cultivating that independent flow! This has been a big (and somewhat intimidating) object of my own recent reflections after noticing how very, very challenging it's become to either squeeze in some basic learning before &/or regroup and recenter after returning home from elective classes. It's something I've noticed over the past year, and for certain in this one- but leaving for classes cuts the 'squaring down for lessons at home' vibe way down and the solution I've been eyeing up for this is creating independent work plans. Being in 6th and 5th grade, this feels about right anyway.... and I am beginning to really like the idea of two days one-on-one intensives balanced out with two days of a more independent flow to be completed on their own trajectory. Executing this has been taking me some time- I'm hoping to strike a confident note with the set up before extending it to them AND: children really do seem to be capable of so much more than we give them credit for 😅🥰 I'm inspired by your efforts, and hope you continue to see success! Oh and also thank you for the very timely math fact advocacy. These were always something I didn't reckon we'd fuss with, but now that we're getting deeper into multiplication and division: I'm thinking twice. I, also, wish I would have listened to the little voice telling me to start this up earlier on. Safe travels and thanks for being here ✨️💛

@@PhilomathicMama Thank you for the kind words! You are correct our children really can accomplish so much when given the reigns. Yes those pesky math facts are so valuable. We are about two months into our school year, and I struggle with consistency, too, due to trying to do too much while not having as much time as I want, especially when I also have a toddler to take care of and then life happens, lol. Your printed up schedule/guides are so inspiring- both visually and conceptually! I have a question for you--- we also have been working with those same sentence worksheets! I mostly love them, BUT: I realize I often question myself when the kiddos freestyle their sentences.... like, if it isn't the same sentence that's on the little 'answer key', I have a slight rush of panic that maybe I'm verifying a sentence that isn't actually grammatically correct 😱😓😅 I love the freestyle approach, but because I'm hoping to expose them to and model 'proper, strong sentences' (an actual defined goal for us this half), I find myself questioning carrying on with it. I'm curious what your thoughts and experience is with this resource... are you guiding them to stick to the 'answer key' or do your little ones come up with their own thing?
@knowledgebynature84802 ай бұрын
@@PhilomathicMama You are enlightening me...what answer keys are you referring to?! Lol I think this is part of the resource that I have failed to notice. To answer your question I do let her free style, but I make sure we have a subject predicate and it's actually building upon what could happen in the photo. Thank you for the kind words, I'm going to go look for this answer key now lol
@PhilomathicMama2 ай бұрын
@@knowledgebynature8480 I hope you found it LoL! It began around page 88 on our desktop here... the 'answers' are printed out in red. It's such a well rounded and fun resource, but I just hope I am guiding them true in their going rougue'ness- this is the stuff I worry about when I can't sleep at 2 a.m. 🙃😅 But this is why I really do continue to look towards a program such as Write By Number (even while pondering the reality of how much groceries I could procure for our family with that investment), because I crave the precise guidance in a situation where we are taking on grammatically correct examples to set the bar. I like the defined examples. We'll see, because I also do really have a big adoration for the creative aspect it provides. You keep shining, momma ✨ 🌻✨ I have been kind of binging on your videos over the past couple days- planning inspiration is something that is greatly needed, and I am taking note of the way you are using those wide open spaces! I have purchased four separate SchoolNest planners now and am still trying to figure out how to implement them with the way my brain works.... they are just so so so darn pretty though,. and I just love supporting Megan. At this point, it's almost become like a early 1990's Lisa Frank thing where I just revel in having them collected all together up on my shelf 🥳🥰😂

@@knowledgebynature8480 that's fantastic, we are just starting AAR 3 and I wanted to make sure that I didn't skip anything so I still want to start from level 1 with spelling. We can't seem to decide if we should finish AAR4 first or add the spelling in now. The rest of our homeschool is all hands on. We are a montessori homeschool and I do straight montessori (not a pseudo version). So boxed curriculums would interrupt our work flow, but I really need the Orton Gillingham add-on as my little one needed every little detail explained, plus word lists were just not enough. I am not sure we can handle two boxed curriculums at once. It might be too much. I might need to be patient and let the reading end fully and hope he will just blast through the first two spelling levels. It's a balancing act! I love the content you have put out on the reading and spelling curriculums. I love seeing it all. All About Learning Press products were the best choice because they integrated well with the montessori method and I could isolate reading from spelling. I also don't want the other language elements in a curriculum as I just don't need them. I am glad I am behind you so I get all my sneak peaks😊
