You probably violated cruise ship rules... things with a heating element aren't allowed in your room (with a few exceptions for things like a hair drier) I'd be very surprised if the engineering dept didn't already have one on board... probably one that can do metal too. As another poster mentioned, you missed the boat not doing the benchy!

That z axis was reaaaaally compensating for those initial layers. Your initial bed level might be really bad, relying on auto bed level alone is not recommended.
@3DPrince-zd1se3 ай бұрын
If I can guess what you’re referring to-there is a lot of movement in the z axis to due to the roughness of the infill, a byproduct of the oozy gen 1 hotend, and having combing enabled. This vibration is much reduced if you add a zhop on retract and disable combing. There are also other factors-we’ve improved bed rigidity for example in recent iterations. I don’t think it is a bed leveling issue, unless you’re referring to something else? If you’re referring to the extra squish/elephants foot at the beginning of the print, that is due to a lowered z offset to improve adhesion to bare glass.
@iJunzy3 ай бұрын
@@3DPrince-zd1se im referring to minute 3:50, thats auto bed level compensation working hard and I'm guessing your compensation fadeout in the firmware is around 5mm to 10mm in height before its turned off? i have also made a positron inspired 3d printer and my bed mounts have knobs at the end to adjust the glass height at those points.
@3DPrince-zd1se3 ай бұрын
@AvengerSho hmm, hard to tell from a blurry picture, but definitely possible. Cant be off by much more than 1mm, based on my experience. Bed leveling was a bit less precise with the mag connector for sure. Those holders on the end are adjustable, but I didnt adjust much in between all my packing and unpacking this trip

PLEASE NOTE: DO NOT ATTEMPT TO PRINT ON AN AIRPLANE WITHOUT EXPRESS PERMISSION FROM THE FLIGHT STAFF AND CREW. After filming this video, I realized that trying to print on a plane could be rather upsetting to passengers and flight staff for various reasons. In addition, 3D printers have the potential to create dangerous and frightening objects. Let's work together to make sure that Positron 3D printers don't get banned by TSA or other aviation security agencies. Thanks.

Planes are in fact especially well ventilated, with air inside the cabin being renewed very frequently, and airflow moving usually from ceiling to floor. An airplane cabin is thus not so bad in this particular case.
@lajoyalobos20099 ай бұрын
The air is pumped in from outside via a compressor to create normal pressure inside the cabin. It is then vented outside again. This happens continually during the flight. A study during Covid found that the air is completely refreshed every 2-3 minutes. The air up there is also pretty clean considering most smog stays closer to ground level and the air at 30,000 ft is often above clouds and exposed to direct sunlight and UV which kills most microbes.

This thing is really asking for a build in battery supply. At least for an hour of work time (there are a lot of useful little things that can be printed in minutes). Maybe at least with unheated bed and some kind of cold adhesive for pla. Also maybe develop some kind of energy saving mode if off grid. Portable 3d printer is definitely a cool concept, don't get me wrong. But it has not a lot of sense if it also requires a fridge class amount of energy to operate 😅 I wish for someone to find a way to make this beast as energy efficient as possible and finally gave it some batteries and independency

A very interesting concept and a neat design and I'm sure many hobbyists will be building these for a technical novelty if not for anything else. But I think a real world use case for a small, portable 3D-printer is much less common than many think. Yes,some people will actually have a need this will fill (like someone living in a very small apartment/RV/trailer or something like that) but for most I think a "stationary" printer will still be enough. Years ago I thought I want an easily portable printer to take to friend's houses etc. so I got a Turnigy Mini Fabricator. Yes, a lot lesser printer than this one with only 100x100x100mm build volume but it was the most portable machine easily available at that time and would have been fairly easy to transport. For the few months I had it it never left my apartment and I did maybe a dozen parts on it. Never found a real occasion when taking a printer with me would have been a good idea, why bore your friends by having them watch a 3D-printer working for an hour or two when everyone has already seen one? Much easier to print the parts at home doing something else while the printer did it's thing. And for printing at home my larger printers were so much more convenient and had better performance. So I ended up selling it after less than half a year. Still, as said, an extremely interesting design and I'm sure many 3D-printer enthusiasts will want to build one just for the fun of it, even though it's kind of expensive for the specs and probably more fussy to use than a regular printer.
