My PET lens in my film years was a 35-70 zoom. A " two step lens. One step for zoom. The other for focus. Really gave pin sharp results. I noticed the 35-70 here is a two step.

I really appreciate this video and the real world testing. We are still talking about these cameras, (and people are buying them) years after their release, which makes them icons. I wouldn’t buy either camera but can live vicariously. 😊 I appreciate the novelty of both but I lean toward wanting everything the mii version offers over the original, (EVF, tilt screen, 42MP, faster auto focus), but even that one has some fatal flaws in comparison to a similarly priced modern day alternative. -2024 (~$2000) used -Slow & noisy autofocus -Small but not pocketable -Awful handling. No grip. -Awful battery life -No lens stabilization -has lens distortion -Dated color science (2015) -No touch LCD functionality -No 4K video. -No mic input. -Micro usb (B) file transfer. Now for a curious photography buff these faults can be overlooked for a steal of a price, but still for the price there are better modern cameras in 2024.

How ironic that you were talking about focus at 2:30 and the camera you are filming with struggles to keep focus LOL

I have not been able program the D610 to do 100% zoom on to the focus point (which is a feature I use all the time with my other Nikons.) Other than that, I am so far liking the D610.

Watching this comfortably and lazy from the couch and surrounded by state of the art Fujifilm cameras. The Panasonic Q and the brainshift Sonny both are ‘enormous tools’ and not the sharpest in the toolbox.

One of the best comparative videos I've seen. Great features that you selected to cover. Now can you just transplant a 24mp sensor into the A7S for me?

Great comparison. I didn’t realize the Q was that much larger than the RX1. I’ve had the original RX1 for 10 years and it’s my most used camera. The size of the Q would prohibit me from carrying and using as much as my RX1. I do carry 3 spare batteries- they’re cheap. Also have EVF, which comes in handy, as well as a small Sony flash, which is affordable and fantastic

I have the Sony 14mm 1.8 GM which is a fine Lens, but I do wish for a more compact Lens and the E-mount version of the Voigtländer 15mm 4.5 Super Wide Heliar III aspherical seems just perfect.

Everyone forgets about these 2 budget, but outstanding Nikkor lenses. The 28-80mm f3.3 - 5.6 G and the 80-200mm f4.5 - 5.6 D Sure they are plastic but the glass is what counts. The 28-80mm has only 6 elements in it the same as the 50mm f1.8 D Insanely sharp. The 80-200mm will stun anyone with it's sharpness and great color rendition. You can get the 28-80mm for $40 and the 80-200mm for $50 in good or better condition.

I have just purchased the D700 and am looking for a lens and Thanks to you are excellent video I now know that I will get the 35-70 Nikkor, I have just sold of my DX lens and camera to go full frame, my previous set up was the D300 with the Nikkor 17-55 F2.8 so you can see I am looking for quality in my full frame lens and this 35-70 looks great to me. Thank You very much for a great video. Terry.

In practice these are quite different lenses based on their focal lengths. The 25 can be used for head and shoulders portraits. The 20 has too wide field of view and is better for capturing people in their environment or small group shots. The 25 focuses faster, but I find the 20 pretty good despite popular opinion that it is slow focussing. Both are sharp, but the 25 is a hair sharper wide open at 1.4 than the 20 at 1.7. But I wouldn’t choose one over the other based on sharpness as they are both plenty good enough.
