Fujifilm X100 Review (Limited Edition)

For people watching this in 2018 I'm using the original X100 and all auto focusing issues have been solved. Just make sure you have a fast SD card (class 10) and update the firmware (free online). Also if you shoot at f/4 it's extremely sharp with a nice bokeh and you won't have any 'distance issue' anymore. I bought mine at $250 which is very cheap for such an amazing camera. I never experienced more fun and inspiration while shooting except maybe with a Leica camera long time ago. If you shoot landscape or portraiture this camera is still a wonder in 2018 and the only one that's always with me wherever I go. Anyway thanks for your in depth review!

I didn't get the limited edition but I got the normal X100 for $850 new. At that price I can't think of anything else that'll give me this kind of image quality. Another thing you forgot to mention is that for anyone that is interested in flash photography, this camera has a way faster sync speed than most DSLR's.

Yes the leaf shutter allows sync to >1/2000s. Image quality wise, cameras with the Sony 16MP sensor are also in this price range and offer similar IQ.

My camera focus is fast closeup or far away, not at all the way your camera was operating on the video. The video is subpar but I have a little Sony Hx9v for amazing video. When in manual just push the AFL AEL button and it auto focuses then a slight turn if you want to tweak. You don't have to keep turning it as in the video. This is a great camera and zoom is no big deal- use your legs.

Hi, you seem to forget that you get the xpro1 body only for the price of the x100 that comes with an attached lens. In Germany the xpro1 is about 1600 Euros body only plus 600 Euros for the cheapest lens. Together that's more than $2500.

around the 13 minute part, you were trying to focus the adapter ring. the reason it wasn't allowing you to was because you were to far from the object, no need for macro setting. i have the original x100 and i've done test to see how close you can focus between standard AF and Macro mode. its about a foot. other than that great video and awesome camera!

Minimum focus distance when not in macro mode is 80cm - it was never going to focus on the lens cap...

Love the black color and wonder why Fuji is not offering silver and black as the X20 for example - I have the X20 in black and love it - So have you now upgraded to X100s ?? find my X100 frustrating as startup so slow and auto focus so so slow and endless macro mode turning on or off and no Q menu - So wondering if worth waiting for X-E2 or X100s ?? love the IQ on X100 but to frustrating to use -

Yes you can use the button for focus but that should be fixed by Fujifilm to be an automatic feature. The AF is not terrible, but compared to the rest of mirrorless range such as M43 and Nikon 1 it is very slow and unreliable.

honestly the af is not an issue for the professional. ive used mine in all lighting conditions and its more then ok

I have seen few of your videos...cant you leave your OM-D in manual focus during recording? it's annoying that your OM-D focus front and back all the time. Just a suggestion though. Peace^^

in your mind which system is the best - Sony NEX 6/7 or Fuji XE-1 or Olympus OMD-5 ?? Of course OMD has the best lens options so far - Fuji seem to have nice lenses but very few so far - Sony seems to have the best sensor but I am not so impressed with their lenses as a terrible menu system. Have NEX7 & 5n and OMD-5 and Pani GX1 as well as Fuji X100 but debating to switch more to Fuji with XE-1 - now Black model on sale :) - so what is your honest take ? of course with good lenses

Its strange I am familiar with cameras you mentioned but the IQ is inferior to the x100 so I would not consider them. And the focus on my x100 is reliable, fast and accurate maybe you got a lemon.

This was using the latest firmware. It's still not nearly as good as competitor's AF.

Horrible camera. I sold mine after a couple of weeks. Very happy with the Olympus OM-D now. Having said that, Olympus are crap at supplying basic things like spare batteries that should be available at camera launch. I pre-ordered it when it was announced and I'm still waiting for my 'free' grip that was on offer at launch.
