I like clockmaker the best. Faster movement speed feels really nice, reduced temporal gears to repair translocators makes things much easier, and taming locusts is a very interesting mechanic. As for the health and damage penalties, I feel as though they become negligible once you enter mid or late game and have access to good weapons and armor.

Love your channel! I just found out about Vintage Story, had never heard about it even though it's been out since what, 2016 or 2017? I'm into games like Valheim and Enshrouded a lot, and played a little Minecraft back in the day but I've been watching your videos to get up to speed what VS offers, and I think I am definitely going to pick it up! I think a LOT of the mainline and Steam-based gaming communities have simply never heard of Vintage Story -- I mean it's not even listed on Steam, that has to be hurting their overall sales. I have also yet to see a single mainstream to even indie-ish gaming site like RockPaperShotgun even cover it, so I think it's still under the radar for most gamers. I'm sure the devs don't want to cut into their profits, but I honestly think a Steam release for this game could easily double or triple the size of the entire VS community within a few months, but that's on them on how they want to advertise the game. All that said, I did see it's got a native Linux client in the Discover store, and will say it was super easy to install on my Steam Deck! Keep up the great videos, they are well-thought out and informative, and have been a great way for me to catch up on what the game is about, as there seem to be farily few KZbin channels or even online game guides/wikis that cover Vintage Story, since it's so under the radar of mainstream gaming. But I really am loving what I see thus far, Minecraft's hacked and PITA modding setup is one thing that always turned me off of running a custom server -- Notch and Microsoft just seemed to never really care about mods even though they were the lifeblood of an enjoyable Minecraft experience.

Honestly I really like the fact that Vintage Story started on smaller sites like itch and humble store and even has its own site. It feels good to be part of am more quiet game base, something like a secret society. Also related to why it isn't advertised, this reminds me of a story from the end of the soviet union: For the first time an advertisment appeared in a town. It was for a camera. The reaction at that time was something like: Wow I guess it's a pretty bad camera if it needs advertisment and people wouldn't recomend it normally. I always thought thai if something is really good it doesn't require some fancy ads or any ads at all, just it being spread by word from dude to dude. That way you really know it's good and it's a significantly smaller chance of it dissapointing you.

Why in the world would I ever want to return VS? It is so great :D There is so much love and detail in the game... When baking bread you can even see the dough rise in the oven. I have a blast plaing this game.

I have also pronounced this wrong for years untill I played a game with this class a long time ago.. It is pronounced BLAGGARD.. and stands for a scoundrel, a person that lives in lower society, a crook etc. don't believe me? look it up!

If this game is properly developed it will be on steam eventually I would say. It's honestly for the best that the community stays small and dedicated. This gives the devs the ability to properly interact with a community that wants to communicate with them. Minecraft and valheim are good examples of a similar strategy, for years they were niche titles still in development and didn't really hit their mainstream popularity until after many years of development. So when the influx of players appeared the game was ready and the devs could handle the influx. Early access games with small dev teams hitting a large audience too nearly early always dooms them to fail.

After seeing so many passion project games crumple under the weight of public pressure on vast commercial gamer scale, I really don't think explosive growth holds any value for a game like this. Huge audiences expect nine women to make fifty babies in nine months. Word of mouth growth is fine for now

One useful tip with cattails, craft hand baskets with them. That'll give you enough inventory space to start with! That's like the first thing i always do, when playing!

when you first load in the world, you'll say "oh this is like minecraft" when you first try to craft a stone axe, you'll say "oh...this is nothing like minecraft"

Vintage story has definitely caught my imagination I've put 40 hours into my first survival world and its so fun and scary. I haven't died yet but there have been so many times I thought I was screwed but quick thinking and a will to live and a lot of luck have kept me alive this far and I have survived horrible things. Like but not limited to fighting two wolves, running into two bears around a corner, running away from a moose (mod?) The moose are so scary i ran two miles no joke with one right on me hit me 3 times blackguard in improvised armor. I managed to get it in water for two seconds which gave me the breathing room to get into the doors climb my roof and kill it. Im currently surviving my first winter I have built a small village area and i recently learned my lesson with a long winter trip about how much supplies I'd need. I got caught in some spots where hypothermia was a scary desperate thing and so was food by the time i got back I'd lost allot of extra hp from a healthy diet. I freaking love this game never did i think running from a moose, bear or wolf could be so fulfilling. This game legitimately feels like a immersive alien world. The fear i felt traveling in those winter woods hearing animals calls and wondering what they where was nail biting and felt very grounded and real. Never in Minecraft have i been caught far from my base only too look out at the unfamiliar landscape and feel genuine fear of the foreign environment. I spent the entire beginning of the game on a parie and the surrounding hills, mountains and valleys in probably a 5 mile radius. This is what i call home and god im glad to be back from those cursed woods. I traveled about 5 days round trip. God if that virtual ground inside my house was real I'd have kissed it layed down and cried. Tldr- 10/10

The problem with minecraft is that its stagnant. Ive been playing minecraft since it first came out and have watched it grow slowly over time. Something happened though (microsoft probably, i dunno) where the updates are just lame and add things that hardly change the meta of the game (mine, get iron, get diamonds). Its honestly frustrating especially when you see what all the mods have to offer and wonder "why isnt this in the game yet?" Vintage Story is not the same game for sure, but it feels like its really making progress after each update. It's reminds me a lot of the ol' "Terraria vs Minecraft" comparison. They may not be the same, but Terraria has far exceeded Minecraft in content and updates.

look for ancient tools mod and primitive storage, you will thank me for a quicker way to make not only leather but preserve meat
