I grew up in the 80s with a Gibson 1974 LP custom in wine red with gold hardware. It was SUPER heavy but played/sounded like a dream. Unfortunately while living in Las Vegas in the late 1990s it was stolen out of my car. I miss it so much. I'll never be able to afford another as they are going for 1000s of dollars today. I may pull the trigger on an Epiphone set up like yours in this video though.

@Electric.Flamingo
@Electric.Flamingo 2 күн бұрын
In my experience and following a widening general consensus, locking tuners really don't seem to have much, if any, effect on tuning stability. They are really there for the quick string changes and to look cool. It's not going to effect playability all that much, certainly not the sound. Obviously, a quality tuning machine, locking or not, will help with keeping the guitar in tune, and the Guyker stuff is pretty solid quality wise.

It’s so nice to be able to have this kind of discussion. I live in Brazil, and things are crazy for us guitar players here, so sometimes it’s hard to fully grasp the point of the video. For example, the minimum wage here is around 1,400 reais, which is about 250 dollars per month. A simple used Gibson guitar costs up to 12,000 reais due to taxes and other factors. So, a young guitarist would have to save all their income for over a year just to afford a used Gibson. Therefore, if, as mentioned in the video, a Gibson, Fender, or PRS-which are all brands known for making very well-built guitars-costs up to 1,500 dollars, and the minimum wage in the USA is around 1,200 dollars per month, we Brazilians can’t understand why you wouldn’t save your money for the real deal: great pickups, solid construction, and good resale value.
@Electric.Flamingo
@Electric.Flamingo 3 күн бұрын
Much like anywhere else, it's hard to save money. Inflation and greed is ruining this country economically. $1,200 a month ain't shit. That's not even enough to cover rent in some places right now.

@@Electric.Flamingo This is very sad to hear! It seems that as prices increase, the quality of products tends to decline. Focusing on instruments, in particular, newer guitars are becoming increasingly expensive. To cut costs and maintain market share, manufacturers are using cheaper woods, lowering build quality, and so on. We must hope for a better future, not only for our hobbies but also for the economy in general.

Fantastic comparison! I like the standard Vintage P90 SD pickup way more. It does sound more organic and full. It must be because of the AlNiCo magnets that they use, as opposed as the ceramic magnets that the Silencers use.

I brought some Guyker locking tuners for about £30-40. They work ok, bit of slippage on the B string though, and two are extremely tight to turn, not the best quality I’ve purchased. I’ll be sticking to branded going forward..

so..... aside from slightly faster string changing, what good are locking tuners? I have two sets and neither improved tuning stability, so I am just on the hunt for a solid reason to upgrade to these on any guitar.
@Electric.Flamingo
@Electric.Flamingo 5 күн бұрын
Well, locking tuners don't increase tuning stability any more than any other quality set of tuners. It's kind of a misconception in the guitar world, I think. It literally serves to make string changes faster. Plus...they look dope.
@riffsnoleads
@riffsnoleads 5 күн бұрын
@@Electric.Flamingoso really not much of a reason to get them then. The time saved when changing strings is negligible at best. Ball end frets is another one I need someone to explain the benefit of. I think your last remark kinda summarizes the whole thing. @@riffsnoleads I think they’re supposed to help when playing live (most players I know don’t always have a spare guitar), snap a string is a quick fix with lockers, I can change a string in about a minute or two. I also do think to do help on guitars with trems, they certainly don’t hurt when you have a bit of a sticky trem system. Plus they look cool in my opinion, not just a mod for mods sake.

I got the same Tele from Zzounds. The bridge was like a 2 year old installed the saddles, and was totally unplayable. I got "That's the way they come sometimes. You need to get a setup" as a response from them. Its fixed now, and is a grwat guitar. Why buy from them when you get the same trash that manufacturers send direct? My Love Drops V came from Sweetwater. The G string nut slot was pinging, and the bridge pickup was slanted towards the bridge. I told my sales Rep, and they paid to have a pro setup done to correct all the problems. That's a level of service that you can't seem to get anywhere else these days. 😊

That's a shame that Zzounds didn't take responsibility for that. It it was just a set up, they could have fixed that. Sweetwater is great! I had a problem with my Hot Dogger and they fixed it right up, sent a can of Dioxit for the pot and it was all good! How's that V playing, that wad a surprise drop that I was curious about.

Robert’s video is 7 years old. That info isn’t exactly relevant. Not to mention the fact that a lot of the decisions of the trade in are made by the sales associate who happens to be standing behind the counter when you walk up and inquire. It’s the luck of the draw. When the dummy pulls up an eBay listing for a broken guitar for $160 that’s what he thinks they can get for your actual guitar. Because he’s an idiot. 😂 However…. This also leads to amazing low prices on used gear. I got a used guitar easily worth $500 for $299

Whether you like this kind of digital gear or not, it is a testament to how inexpensive or cheap SMT / surface mount technology is to make. 99% of FX pedals made today are SMT builds. Boutique gear means nothing today, I digress. Think about $12.00 per unit but you pay 199.99 Cheap micro parts that can't be repaired. I find these greedy #$$%%^ disgusting. A EYE has taken over the industry because guitars, amps, pedals , keys ETC. are dirt cheap to make. The only ones who benefit is them. Do your research. They play on your ignorance, don't be a dumb as.

The amp models and IRs sound really good for being a cheap Chinese multi-effect. Great little fly-rig! Definitely worth the price, and more.
