I saw this tip on another channel a couple of weeks ago. After adjusting my grip, the results of the change was immediate. I didn’t even realize I was doing it but I was putting both thumbs on the shaft. It’s very comfortable that way, but I realize that it contributed HEAVILY to my massive slice. After making the change, that slice transitioned back into my normal fade. I’m regaining confidence in my driver again. The grip is everything. Good video.

Jordan Spieth has a long thumb, I think he's done pretty good on the pga, hasn't he? Actually lots of tour pros use a long thumb. I know Mike Austin and Mike Dunaway always used a short thumb and taught using it that way, they were both hitting it well over 300yds back in the 80's.
@TheForgottenGolfer10 күн бұрын
Yes Jordan Spieth does, and I put that in the description and he’s a terrific player. But 50% of the folks I see on the driving range are struggling with their grips and have no idea how to fix it, and that’s why I made this video.

Fighting a slice my whole life (a very long time /since before any sort of video lessons like this) my grip has gotten stronger and stronger as well as separated hands among other tweaks …..so much adjustment that now that ive started trying to improve my swing plane (etc because of youtube ) ive gone from bad to worse ….am going to use this off season to hit ranges and and restart / build a new swing ..starting with a more neutral and typical grip ..

@@TheForgottenGolfer My lunchtime golf game buddy and I went out for a pitch and putt 9. He has always had trouble getting the ball up into the air, no popping up. This one grip change totally transformed his shot shape. He was absolutley launching his sand wedge. My shots gained some yardage and a much, much tighter spread. Pretty neat stuff. Unfortunately here in the great white north the white is coming. Our days of fairway frolics are headed for the deep sleep. I suspect your videos are going to be a fundamental part of my off season therapy to stay sane. 😊

Starting my back swing in the past was always a trial & error with me. I experimented with different putter grips and finally settled on the reverse overlap grip with my lead hand index finger. To start my stroke, I apply pressure with my index finger for a smoother start. Over the years, I have experimented with different club grips, too. When I chip around the green, I use my reverse overlap grip, too, for better feel for distance. One day, I decided to use the same putter grip on my full & partial swings with all my clubs, with the exception on the having the grip in my fingers instead of my palms with putting & chipping. Now, I use the same grip for all my clubs, with the only change of palm or fingers, putting/chipping vs. full or partial swings! ⛳

Thanks for the great lesson! Im doing something similar in my takeaway. I’m 76, and of course lost a lot of distance over the decades, lol. If it’s not too personal, I was wondering how far you hit your drives on average these days, and what length courses you play. I’m considering moving up to the forward tees as my drives average from about 210 to220, and Im looking to diminishing distance if I’m fortunate enough to maintain my health. Thanks.

Snead most definitely did not "fan the club wide open" on the backswing
@TheForgottenGolfer3 ай бұрын
He did however come over the top- he thought hitting the ball as a pull shot with a closed face-so pulling it to his target would give him extra distance
@mudddge3 ай бұрын
@@TheForgottenGolfer Snead wasn't OTT in the usual usage of the term. It was OTT only in the sense his DS plane was "over the top" of his BS plane. He had more of an inside takeaway so that was always going to be the case
@TheForgottenGolfer3 ай бұрын
But like I said, he aimed to the right, took it way inside, came over the top on the DS in order to pull the shot left to the target for the extra distance. He probably didn't have to, but he gained extra distance that way just as we do when we close our club face at impact and it goes left of the target. Except he planned the pull to hit his mark. I read this over and over again when I was a teenager. There were quite a few tour players playing the same way at the time.
@mudddge3 ай бұрын
@@TheForgottenGolfer Yes it's well known he aimed right and pulled it back on line. I was pushing back on your remark that Snead had the club wide open on the back swing.
