My favourite book is Daughter of the Forest by Juliet Marillier. It’s a story that’s equal parts heartbreaking and romantic. I love the Irish folklore, the focus on nature, and on family. It’s a true gem. (But, content warning for sa).

I loved the Epilogue, it brought me to tears. I hadn't known about Dostoevsky's background until the Epilogue, and as soon as I finished, I went back and read the book again. Thank you for the insight on the names. I can't help but wonder how much we've missed simply because we don't know Russian. Despite that, we were still able to appreciate this masterpiece. If anything, this book left me with a hangover, and only Dostoevsky can cure it 😅Loved the vlog and amazing bookshelf!

This was such a great watch! The amount of effort in the editing and in the movie script, as it were, of the video, are so impressive. Took me back to when I read this last year in May and remembering some of the thoughts I had ( those notes are here somewhere... ), loved hearing your take on it. I wish I could've also read it in Russian, but my level there is basic reading comprehension at best. 😅 An amazing book to be sure, but you do need to be ready for a certain amount of depression and existential crisis. Dostoevsky's writing is so... strikingly atmospheric, you could almost feel you were one of those lowly drunks on the streets of Petersburg, tormented by who knows what crime and poverty of existence.

The production quality of this video is pure insanity, I LOVE it!!! Really appreciated all your insights, especially on the differences between translations. Don''t know when I will read this book, but I will make sure to be in a somewhat okay headspace because it sounds entirely too depressing lol. Can't wait for more of these videos, bring on the Literary Libations!!

Very cool video! You put so much effort in on this one and it's hugely appreciated. This is a top 5 of all time book for me and I'm so glad to experience it a little again, if only vicariously. It makes me want to try the Katz translation in English. I agree that this book can drain the emotional tank, but the prose is so sublime (even in English) and uncanny, I'm just agape all the way through. (OK...I'm a tad melodramtic.) 🙂 I learned a lot from your thoughtful insights. "A cluster swamp of depression dressed in philosphy." 👍😆

I so enjoy the vibes of your surrounding every time! This time, I really adored the curtains 😃 Regarding the book, that is the one I read too young - the main character annoyed me since the beginning and I couldn't understand him 😊 Also, you rock for reading in three languages at once!!! (and even changing the scripts ✨)

Such a good video! I really love how cinematic so many of your videos feel! My family is from russia but I haven't read a single russian classic yet, shame on me (but mostly because my parents both still complain about them being required reading at school, apparently War and Peace as a school book was pretty boring)

Yeah, I don't like loud music and crowded spaces either, BUT in my younger years I enjoyed those things once (no more than twice) a year where I go to the night club and I got drunk on purpose! I understand how doing it regularly as part of your job makes you dislike it.
@libraryunbounded
@libraryunbounded 6 күн бұрын
Yeah, I think a big part of the enjoyment is the freedom and connection with the crowd one feels when one goes "out on town". But when you're dead sober in the middle of a drunk crowd for years it kind of loses its lustre 😅

The count of monte cristo. It felt like boarding a train to a clear destination, a revenge plot, but the ride there took you on such a grand adventure if left me breathless and rocked to my core. Such a stunning and well put together plot, where all the puzzle pieces slid together satisfyingly in the end!

Great video. I just finished the Way of Kings and just learning about the whole Cosmere universe. Would you recommend stopping and starting Mistborn or move to Warbreaker, Words of Radiance, and then pausing to go back to Mistborn?

Thank you so much for the reading journal! This is my first year using one on my laptop. I was just wondering if anyone else is having issues with the series tab. When I read a standalone and then a new series book, in the series tab it completely skipped a row and I don't know how to fix it, if anyone has run into the same problem and can help, I'd really appreciate it!

Tress of the Emerald Sea by Brandon Sanderson! I absolutely loved how he created a unique pirate fantasy and flipped character stereotypes and still managed to make it a fun, we'll-paced adventure story with a great romance sub-plot!

I love that you are setting LESS (and more specific) goals this year. I would much rather watch someone who is setting realistic goals for themselves, but more importantly, someone who is truly reading and ENJOYING what they are consuming vs someone who is just vacuuming up books and not retaining/enjoying them (or lets be honest, not REALLY reading them at all.) So thank you!

Yes, all the credit for getting the series number lower! My series goal this year is to get to 100 that I'm "in progress" on - currently sitting at 124, so not sure if I'll accomplish it, but it's good to set a bar and try anyway! If I could only read one book...difficult, as there's several top priorities this year... I guess Wind and Truth doesn't count, since I started it in Dec...the next book in the Hierarchy series by Islington that's coming out later this year (I think) would be my pick. What's yours?

I think my one book this year might be rereading the first book in the magicians' guild series by trudi canavan (planning to reread the whole trilogy but you asked for ONE book :D). It's been a few years since my last reread of that and I find myself discovering/enjoying completely different parts/plots whenever I do <3

You are too kind, Lela 🌸 Don't be afraid - it's a big book and won't make much sense for a while, probably. But it's also very enjoyable later on. It's just words waiting for you to let them tell you a story. So relax and allow them ;)

But that's the beauty of 'ambiguous untrackable goals', they make it so easy to convince yourself and everyone else that you succeeded because who is gonna have hard proof you didn't? 🤣 Good luck with managing the series situation, I have over 200 series ongoing and only 120 or so that I am caught up on... oops 🥲 Also love your attitude in regards to the channel goals. Wherever your booktube journey takes you, I will be with you every step along the way :))

The book I can’t wait to get to this year is The Way of Kings, but I am a completionist at heart, so of course I’ll need to read Sanderson’s Cosmere universe in the best order there is😌 I am just beginning that journey so hopefully I’ll have the time to reach The Way of Kings this year.

I've had Mayas in my life, but I also have been the Maya I really like your reading goals, hopeful but also well balanced; not that it matters but I agree with the channel goals, yeah sure it's nice to see the community growing but it is also a safe space that shouldn't feel stressful or burden-ish. I really like your content and just want to watch more if it, whichever way it comes. As for the final question, I'd say either Notre Dame of Paris or Pride and Prejudice. And the why... well I'm very intimidated
