The Road messed me up! I have young boys and you read this story hoping you would be like the father but afraid you would probably be the mother. McCarthy can read my soul.

Omg, Kim, I can't even imagine what it would do to me if I had kids... You put it so well!

Still loving the car vibes! (also, a beautiful sweater 🥰) I'm so happy for you to find quite a few new gems! I remember The Road mainly like a novel about feelings; honest, fragile but also devastatingly hopeful. McCarthy really can say so much with so little (and what's more, so common) words and actions of his characters. My gem was Jane Eyre this month, once again proved to be my most precious classic ☺

Ah, thank you! It's one of my favorite (sweaters) 🍁🍂 Exactly, he can destroy you with simple words and that's just magical! Ah, Jane Eyre - the perfect book for fall! I'm glad you went for the re-read! 📖

That’s an impressive reading month! I am for sure adding some of those books to the tbr ( namely ordinary grace, the road and swan song ) and I can totally relate to the sacrificing sleep and social interaction for reading 😅
@libraryunbounded2 ай бұрын
Oh, I do hope you like them (I am almost sure you will)! Yeah, reading is a solitary (and often sleepless) endeavour...

❤📚📚❤️ The Road and Ordinary Grace are on my own bookshelves and have now moved up on the reading list. Thank you for all your reviews! This Tender Land by William Kent Krueger was amazing as well. Edit: Just went to Goodreads and added Three Apples Fell From the Sky! It just sounds so good.

Oh, I can't wait for you to read them! And I so hope you love them! ❤️ Just added This Tender Land to my TBR and gonna try to purchase a physical copy soon. Oh, Three Apples Fell From the Sky is magnificent! Heavy at times, but also easy to read and easy to get into. And it's all so hopeful! I read it in Bulgarian, but heard great things about the translation ✨📚

Car video!! Love it! You read some of my favorites this month! ps, appreciation to the Slytherin color sweater stripes :)
@libraryunbounded2 ай бұрын
Haha thank you, Brian! Indeed, some great books were read! Yessss, it wasn't intended as a Slitherin sweater when I got it, but since then, everyone who's seen it has commented something related to that, and you know, I kinda like it! 🐍💚

Thank you so much, Neda! It was a good reading month for sure. Don't know if I had fun thought - it's all kinda blurry 😂

Thank you, Cat! The Road is great and I'm so happy I read it now and not when I was a young airhead 😂

Ordinary Grace sounds beautiful. I'm adding it to my to-read pile. I've also been meaning to pick up a Cormac McCarthy book and I'm encouraged by your reviews on his books. I think I need to be in a specific frame of mind and prepare myself before reading it. I don't topically like "eviscerate your soul" books because I do need to function like a human being and mother my children. 🤪 But it is a book I would like to read!

Hahaha you know, I might be overselling the "destruction" caused by The Road a bit, unintentionally. It just so happens that I read it around my father's birthday (he passed away last year) and I might've been a bit affected by that too. It is a great book though!

I just downloaded Three Apples to read soon, it’s short at only 8 hrs! I loved the first half of Swan Song, especially the scenes with the president… but the second half was a swan dive for me. I too remember the Coca-Cola scene from The Road and the movie with Viggo Mortenson was good.

What was it in the second half of Swan Song that turned you off? I'm curious to see how we all experience things :) Oh, I so want to watch the movie (The Road)! But I need to find someone to watch it with, because I can't stay awake during movies... 😅

Murder of Roger Ackroyd is this month's book club pick and 5 chapters in I feel the murderer is obvious. Though to be fair, I haven't completely worked out why, suppose Poirot will help with that. Could be wrong, only time will tell. So far it's 3.5 stars - I've only read a handful of her books (as murder mystery is not really an interest). Glad you highly enjoyed it. And decided to add Cormac McCarthy to my to read authors, so thanx for the recommendation.

Ah, I do hope you managed to guess it. I think I was blinded by the previous books and the pattern from them. So it caught me a bit off guard. 😂 I so hope you enjoy McCarthy's books. He is a bit peculiar when it comes to writing style but once you get used to it, it's all so great!
@read-a-long2 ай бұрын
@libraryunbounded yep, it was who I thought. By chap 17 I felt Poirot basically said who the killer was. Figure out the how by then as well, with the help of Poirot.

I'm super interested in both Swan Song and The Road. I've heard great things for ages about them but I always was intimidated. Maybe this will finally get me to try them (or at least one)
@libraryunbounded2 ай бұрын
Oh, I can see how you might be hesitant to start them. But you know, it's just words, written by a person. They either grab you or they don't. And if they don't, you leave them behind and pick other words. A book's got nothing on you, Regina! You can take them all! 💖
@reginad912 ай бұрын
@libraryunbounded oh, I love that! That's a great way to think about it 😊

Spoiler for Swan Song The Supernatural stuff . Not the part that Swan had the ability to bring back a tree or corn but the storyline with the masks, where you got a pretty face if you were good and and a demonlike face if you were evil… OMG over the top ridiculous to me.🤮
@libraryunbounded2 ай бұрын
Ah, yeah, I can see how that part can turn you off. It was on the edge for me, but I ended up enjoying it - mostly because of all the suffering associated with it and it felt a bit like a metaphor.
