An outlining method for pantsers seems a bit of an oxymoron. Missed a comma out there because I hate using them.

Thank you so much for the information. I believe your video is the best video that I've seen and understood. I'm just starting off writing to be on KDP but I have done a lot of journal writing to myself. Not understanding how to do this for the public has been a bit of a challenge but you've explained it so very well God bless you and your family.

I had a question. There's already a writer with my name. So, I thought I'd use my initials and middle name as a pen name. But the interwebs are saying you don't have to register a pen name. So, how do I prevent someone from using the same pen name as me?🤔

I am writing a series of stories in which my main villains are human-spider hybrids, like Trish, the main villain of my fifth story, & mother of Telary, the main villain of my sixth story, conceived through parthenogenesis. Both have human-level intelligence, but with the predatory instincts & nature of a spider. They are incapable of feeling remorse, compassion, mercy, or pity for their prey, just like a spider, & humans are their chosen prey. They are extremely proliferate, capable of producing as many as sixty offspring in a one week period. Trish & Telary see themselves as the protagonists in their eyes, & the humans that want to hunt them down & kill them just for being who & what they are, & following their nature, a spider's nature, a nature those same humans put into them, humans like my main protagonists, as the villains. In their eyes, they are just following their nature, just doing what spiders do. Everything they do is motivated purely by survival of the species. Also, both Trish & Telary are capable of routinely wiping the floor with my protagonists in a fight, forcing them to really work for a win. Trish & Telary are both much stronger, faster, more agile, & harder to hurt than a normal human, have extremely heightened senses, can crawl along walls & ceilings, like a spider, can spin webs, have three different types of venom to paralyze, kill, or mutate their prey, turning them into hybrid spider creatures, & have a healing factor capable of regenerating lost limbs. It takes a lot to bring them down. They are able to turn into a giant spider the size of a car, or manifest four long spiderleg appendages from their backs, with sharply pointed tips capable of stabbing or slashing like a knife. They also have weaknesses. They must mate or produce offspring within a limited period of time or they will die. They only want to live as a species & follow their nature, but because they feed on humans, they are too much of a threat to be allowed to live, as they will replace humanity at the top of the food chain.

Dear fellow writers, please be mindful of KZbin grifters who claim that they can help you get published. Many of them just want your money as they charge you a months salary for a weekend of work. 🙏🏾

I recently discovered your videos but I haven’t had a chance to watch many yet. I’ve completed my manuscript (though it hasn’t been professionally edited yet) and I have a vision for my book cover. Could you point me in the right direction or suggest which of your videos would be most helpful for turning my manuscript and cover art into a physical book?

I just outline each chapter as I write that way when I do find a publisher, the publisher has the outline already. Besides, I haven’t written in published a book yet I’m just starting.

I see all these rules and they make sense. Then I see some of the greatest authors and they use those methods described as bad writing. I opened a random page of a Murakami novel and in one paragraph alone he used several filter words, "he felt" etc., to describe how the character remembers something. Other great writers use "bad writing" and for me it feels organic. Not only for me as they are considered "the greatest". So... Sometimes it's just confusing and I ask myself if all those rules actually make me a worse writer if I apply them too strictly. Sometimes I search for a better way to describe something and my personal taste tells me that "he thought" is just the shortest, most fitting. Where is the fine line here? I'm German. In Germany or Europe what we consider so called "elevated literature" has a different style than American or English literature. I bite on granite here, to use a German idiom.

So I decided to write, storyboard, and sketch a comic/manga. This really helped me understand a paragraph as a frame. A picture is worth a thousand words as they say.

I've been über conscious about character motivation, consistencies, and stakes: my WIP is told from four different POVs; however, as the story progresses, it is discovered that those perspectives are actually from the protagonist, who, with the help of the other main characters, comes to appreciate the more omniscient/omnipotent scope she has. Her stakes turn out to be, in essence, herself and the prospect of almost godlike powers. The whole big concept of my novel hinges on character arcs nesting within themselves and overlapping. Right now, my biggest hurdle is clarity-using really logical flow to keep those overlapping seams as hidden or as smooth as possible. Fingers crossed. 🤞

"Show; don't tell" tells me I don't know how to write. It can always get more concrete. How superficially and intellectually we "normally" write.

Tip from experience to consider: Never base a font on Normal. Always select "based on no style." The reason for this is too long to go into here but essentially, if the file is loaded on another computer that has a Normal style set with different characteristics, those characteristics can override the settings of the style you created. If Amazon says something different, please disregard this. I am new at KDP, but have been working with Word as a technical writer/publisher since they created it. (Only in-house corporate publications, though, other than the monthly mags.) Thank you for this video! All very useful info and pretty much exactly what I was looking for! I had been wondering if KDP takes Word formatting features such as section breaks (since Microsoft itself sometimes glitches on these). Am wondering one thing, though. For page numbers, I usually prefer inserting codes in footers (habit due to giving more control over page number formatting) rather than using the page number placement utility Word added a while back. Of course since complex page number formatting (e.g., including section numbers in the page number) is usually not used in books, such control isn't necessary. But I am wondering if KDP takes the old time page codes. Really useful info about the margin issues. I wouldn't have anticipated that. Thanks again.

Everything you mentioned about KDP making changes or based on Normal is why I don't like to upload the Word document, instead I upload the PDF. I don't want KDP to change any formatting

I didn't realize just how fast you've been publishing 😮 Seriously, 4 books in less than a year? You're my spirit animal Natalia! 😭 As a full-time freelancer myself, I'm happy you're booked out. I'm only taking on a few clients per month due to prioritizing content creation and writing, but it's insane how you’ve been juggling everything so well ❤ Congrats on 10K into the new WIP!

You might need to clean up some programs, or uninstall any programs using up a lot of memory. However, if you do need a RAM upgrade, you might need to just buy a new laptop altogether, because many new laptops these days (especially when it come to apple products) they solder the RAM onto the motherboard; so replacing RAM isn't like how it use to be. Anyways, If you do need to buy a new laptop, I would go for 16GB or more. I'm not sure how long you've had your Mac for, but if it's been more than 5 (or even 6) years, it's probably not a bad idea.
