In the latter part of the game you are hitting two islands per turn in order to keep two sets of archers fully upgraded Would it be equally good to hit just one island per turn, get half the coins, and just upgrade one set of archers?

Fleet of foot should at least be B. It is *THE BEST* trait for Pike men. Not only does it help them reposition better, it also helps them prop their spears forward faster which reduces the likeliness of them dancing awkwardly when they are late in a fight. Though that's pretty much it, It's a very bad starting trait as it has flat value meaning it doesn't get better as the game progresses. It's pretty nice to have, but not essential for a run.

I see what you’re saying but I’d personally put fleet of foot on infantry cause they are the most versatile in the game. And something like sure footed or heavy weapons on pikes.

#8 happened to me recently on Veteran in fairly early game. I had a very hard double pod discovery near the device destroy mission and with about two very tanky berserkers. Even though I was surviving, the absolute prick Warlock chosen shows up and just made things an absolute nightmare. Finally, I get the Warlock down to 1 HP, go in for a kill shot and miss like an 80 percenter. The combination of missing the shot and going "all in hail Mary" as you put it meant the next turn the Warlock mind controlled my best squad member and we got wiped. Like, squad wiped, mission failed. I actually restarted the entire campaign on that one
@roguebrothers14 күн бұрын
Yeah this is exactly what I mean and I've had exactly the same experience. It feels like it happens more with the Warlock cos his mind control is so strong and can completely do you in!

As a newish casual player, I recommend going down the Gunslinger tree for Sharpshooters and circle back around. Most missions are going to have you needing to dash to the objective or to an evac and if your sharpshooter is in the back snipping you might have to leave them behind. Sniper rifles are always going to do decent damage if they hit, but pistols are much more mobile. also, gunslingers go through Lost like a knife through butter

I don't know if I agree with your overwatch is overrated statement. If you do it properly, you can use an overwatch ambush to catch them out in the open. If you take a shot without overwatch and then react they will go into cover first.

i want to advocate for continuing campaigns that experience squad wipes rather than restarting. learning to play from behind, from a losing position, prepares you and teaches you so much. im currently in an incredibly scuffed ironman campaign, just lost my first major after 14 missions. im scrambling, learning new tactics and synergies and techniques just to get by. that's going to help tremendously on my next run, but i actually think im on course to win. you just have to persevere

@somethingbeyondcoolАй бұрын
Some reasons are justified some are i Skill issues 1. Percentages kinda suck, this isn't coming from a guy who mostly get 100% shot accuracy. Some times you hit a 28% while failings a 95%. Think tactically, if you going to flank a enemy pick the right class, rangers got 100% chance to hit with a flank shot (if the enemies can't dodge). Anything can happen it it isn't 100%, heck I was hacking a door and got a facility lead even tho it was 5% 2. Activating a pod might cost you the mission at worst the run. Mostly can be solve with a scout. I had some fun wiping pods using reaper claymore and a grenade especially early game where you are weak 3. Missons timers, depends on the mission. They make you shift your goal. Normally you want to fight and kill all enemies slowly and carefully. It forces you to use basic principles from the tutorial, use grenade to make a exit. The misson timer does punish you if you forget or don't proactive attempt to complete the objective. The timer is there for a reason for evac mission because the advent can prevent firebrand or skyliner from evac or the advent complete their goal thus the mission is useless 4. This Is Xcom, they shoot at anything that move first even a random trooper on the otherside of the map, best bet is suppression (grenadier ability that I think you can learn in training center or get from AWC), overwatch is mainly for not wanting to take a 1% shot. Or ambushes. 5. Missing blade attacks is fairish as the lancers can miss too but it annoying so either use an aim pcs (not sure if it work on blades) or katana on wotc, missing blank point shot kinda make sense as blank point isnt the most effectiveness range for combat. The whole point of guns is to maintain distance while shotguns and the pistols do specialized in cqc the others do fall off a little 6. Sharpshooter aren't the best. Their action economy sucks, they need 2 actions for their rifle, squad sight get penalty for aim and their rifle aim fall off with close range. Some abilities are weird like death from above only returning one action point even tho the rifle need 2, their upgraded weapons take extra Research and stuff. The game works agains them 7. Yep can't argue with this one. 8. Never really have a problem with chosen. Only problem I would have if a sectopod or another high priority target comes. You often cannot kill both and a solider might die. Especially with warlock if he mind controls a unit and a pod active you lose dps and get either equal or outnumber with the enemy 9. One of the 2 reasons I dont play iron man. 10. Yeah, you have to manage supplies and stuff and often rely on luck. Essential unit may die early game forcing you to train more to take the fallen place 11 (what I hate about the game) mission failure requirements and what happens if you fail them. The game doesn't make it clear on what make a failed or a successful mission. For example the crate tagging mission you dont need to kill all the enemies meaning you can evac, there should be optional and required objectives so the player know what they can and cannot do. Knowing when You can evac is good. ALSO how failing a supplie raid cause the local resistance to stop existing
@roguebrothersАй бұрын
Loads of good points here! - Absolutely agree on requirements being optional and required (it would only be telling you something you otherwise have to work out yourself by experience) - I didn't even know that about a supply raid!!

The worst "timers" are on the protect device missions. Advent is surrounding the device, and taking pot shots at it while you need to cut your way through the interfering pods. Worst case, some high damage enemy is camping the device.
@entropiated9020Ай бұрын
I'd fix this by: allowing for misses on the device, and only allowing so much damage per turn.
@roguebrothersАй бұрын
Yep - or when a Sectapod wanders through the device and destroys it immediately 😂😤
@roguebrothersАй бұрын
Yeah I feel like this one could do with some balancing mechanics in the game engine!
@somethingbeyondcoolАй бұрын
Protect the device need a rework. The enemies are on the device and your team is deploy a mile away. I should be the reverse probably a wave like protection where you spawn at the device and must protect it until the timer finishes. It make more logical sense
@entropiated9020Ай бұрын
Missing 85% shots so often is likely balanced out by the fact you'd make more sub 50% shots if you bothered trying them... but we don't because we try to find solutions with better odds. So you only see the high percentage misses and not the low percentage hits.
@entropiated9020Ай бұрын
I would fix this by applying a "jitter meter" of some kind. 90% shot, but the shooter is feeling jittery? Expect issues. 35% shot but dude is feeling dialed in? Take the chance.
@roguebrothersАй бұрын
I like that - would give you some info to go on and make it not feel so bad when you miss - good idea!
@roguebrothersАй бұрын
Yeah that is very true! It's rare to take many shots below 50% and when I do I always expect them to miss!
@user-hi4sm3ig5jАй бұрын
The first one already has that solution mechanic on the lower difficulties, you do get better chances on your next shot. Game doesn't tell you though so the frustration part still happens and makes it feel even more unfair if you know about this and still miss three 85% shots in a row. The timers issue, I get. Especially with the hack a laptop on a train mission when the specialist never seems to get a line of sight on the objective even when it feels like they clearly should. Although you can still evac on those so you just have to take the failure on that one without losing soldiers. Meanwhile the council missions where you get everyone captured after the timer runs out usually have really long timers that aren't much of a problem. As for misclicks they should have had an extra "are you sure?" pop-up if you click a square out in the open in close proximity to enemies when only an insane person would do that purposely.
@roguebrothersАй бұрын
Totally agree - I mean, the timer one is manageable and you can even mod it but can feel a little frustrating sometimes! I think that is a fantastic idea for misclicks! At least having a option to have a pop up like that in the game!

Also there's another tip especially for Elite priests who are pesky with their stasis. You'll needa a ranger with bladestorm skill and (blademaster/ assassin's weapons) then you position them beside the priest do once they move out of stasis your ranger will chew them up. Another tip is to always have the ability that allows you to one shot the lost, that way you can use your Sharpshooter's pistol to get rid of them all without wasting either bullets nor action points. Also, if you can, always have a S.P.A.R.K. unit with you as they can tank damage and their B.I.T.s (Gremlin's rounder siblings) can repair your mech unit and use heavy weapons such as shredders which I heavily recommend. I would recommend also using the SPARK for missions against the Warlock chosen as it cannot be mind controlled, and both Reapers and Rangers. Try to complete as many Covert OPs as possible as they increase your soldier's will, health, speed, hack, agility and even promotes them and creates bonds. Oh yeah about bonds, having a level 3 bond is extremely useful as it allows 2 of your soldiers to attack the same unit together if it's in both of their lines of sight as well as you can increase their action points twice and remove debuffs if they're adjacent to each other. Hmm what else... Oh yeah, about the PSI operatives, try training them to the max or at least till you have 5 good abilities, including lance(which gives you an unobstructed line to damage your enemies and can even cause insanity), domination, fortress (which makes your operative immune to explosions, acids, burning and even poison, as well as another ability that protects all of your units from mental debuffs and even domination if they're close to your PSI operative.
@roguebrothersАй бұрын
Alot of great tips here! Thanks for commenting! I would massively recommend your tip of bringing a SPARK or two against the Warlock as his mind control can ruin you! This or a PSI operative who can break mental effects!

here's my own personal ranking S: Ring of Command, Warhammer A: B: Jabena, Mines, Philosopher Stone, Warhorn C: Bomb D: Holy Grail Imo there is no item that is above average that doesn't fundamentally break the game. Warhammer works with any unit, no matter the trait or profession. and ring of command works with all unit types as well, I absolutely love the RoC and rousing speeches combo with infantry. absolutely cracked. or RoC, sharp weapons and pikes. the bomb and holy grail are simply underwhelming. the rest are balanced and work with a small set of traits or with a certain unit type without being extremely versatile or powerful. also just FYI your math is wrong for the philosophers stone. it takes 2.5 islands for the level 2 upgrade to pay for itself and 3 islands for the level three upgrade to pay for itself (assuming the collector trait isn't combined with it - which it would then change to 1.5 and 1.66). you don't have to go to 9 islands to pay for it. assuming efficient spending it would take 5.5 islands to max out - and probably seven islands it you need a few coins to upgrade something else. considering any given unit can easily visit a couple dozen islands in a campaign, even if you get the item mid-way it can bring a decent profit.

late to the game and the community here - but here's my ranking S: Heavy Weapons, Ironskin, Sure-Footed A: Collector, Mountain, Skillful B: Fleet of foot, Heavy Load, Rousing Speeches, Sharp Weapons C: Energetic, Popular D: Fearless I think Energetic is way overhyped (from what I've seen of other bad north players), it only affects a select few items which isn't what you want, with the few items it synergises with it does well. And as for the mountain...the early game is free, the mountain is so good with infantry units, and I'd say this even if the trait didn't scale up with the squad. and the mountain commander is very good at combating other brutes, leading to overall fewer losses for the squad. Love the content man❤
@ddesmarais72512 күн бұрын
Collector is a hard one to rank. It's either S as a starting item W philosophers stone, or it's easily the worst item in the game cus you got it at the end. Putting it at A is fair since it really is essential for very hard mode
@VikingrGaming-x4l2 күн бұрын
@@ddesmarais7251 Yeah, the only reason why it isn't S tier is that it sometimes is acquired too late in a campaign and the good items are taken. And even if you start with it, it doesn't actually boost the combat effectiveness of your units. On the other hand, traits like heavy weapons will always yield results so long as they are used.
