Super reliable. I have a 2004 with 210k on it and it runs amazingly well. This engine can't be killed. Honda makes the best engine. I do have a P1457 that I have to figure out, but still runs awesome.

Besides the rust Do you think the 4runner was/is better than the xterra.?

In almost every way, yes. We actually ended up selling the Xterra and frame swapping the 4Runner. It was the right decision

@@NotSoHandyCarGuy Thank you I’ve been looking at many V8 4Runners like you guys(previous Xterra owner) because of #1 the V8 power train, factory locker, more premium interior compared to the X etc. Definitely concerning about the frames but after watching the frame swap video I’m more interested.

I have an 01 sr5 and 08 v8. I'm 6' 2". If the comfort of the 3rd gen is a 7, the 4th gen is a 4. The seat adjustability is bad, leg room is less than the 3rd gen, if i wear a hat it rubs on the roof. I hate my 4th gen for driving more than an hour, but you know, can't get rid of it either.

Got a newer model ;) - 2015 Limited 4WD close to 200k and think it's an excellent vehicle. Use it camping, highway, in city driving. Handles great, parks great. Such an easy to drive reliable vehicle. I would recommend buying older models to friends.

I owned a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder and the problems were endless and prematurely unnecessary. I bought it at a Nissan dealership with 30k miles and it was Nissan certified 😮 at 65k miles the motor went due to a malfunctioning catalytic converter that sucked a piece of metal into the motor, so Nissan replaced the motor under warranty, then there was numerous other flaws, fan clutches, axles, fuel leveling sensor, transmission was starting to go out at 120k due to coolant intrusion, stupid design by Nissan. The rear quarter panels started to rot prematurely at 80k miles, got rid of it at 145k 🫡 wasn't a bad vehicle when it didn't break down. But I also owned a 2005 Nissan Murano and that too was a lemon. My brother had a 2006 and 2015 Maxima and both had similar issues. 😮 only my Dad who has a 2016 Nissan Rouge hasn't had any major issues. I have since written off Nissan figuring I just don't have any good luck or vibes from others about them. I've owned 2 Fords and 3 Lincoln's and all 5 were better vehicles especially in reliability 🤷🏽‍♂️ best of luck but I would've stayed with Toyota ✌🏽♥️

Although a great idea and design it's execution is flawed and the cost cutting measures obviously apparent for a Japanese product. Nissan had a very tough decade when these came out with various warranty repairs and premature break downs. Maybe if the Xtera was on todays Pathfinder platform it would do better 🤷🏽‍♂️ Non the less it should be very capable and fare better after needed repairs and meticulous maintenance ✌🏽♥️

And it is safer . I agree especially if you don’t know how much carbon has build inside . There is a chance of a large chunk breaking off and damaging something internally like sticking piston rings then you can kiss your engine goodbye .

So many reviewers don't give a good shot of the cargo ability of an SUV. The middle U is for Utility, for goodness sake. So thanks for doing such a great job of showing that aspect. The V6 is nice, but it's a tight fit in the Rav4.

I have a 2008 V6 and with 198,xxx miles on the odometer it has been dead reliable (knock on wood). I'm aware of all of the possible issues and by the grace of God I haven't experienced any. Ours has the 3rd row and although it is tight and we barely use it, it did come in handy a few times. That is our road trip vehicle so not a daily driver and I'm think because it has mostly highway miles is why it's been so reliable.

I just sold my 3rd gen not too long ago. I picked up a limited 4wd vvti v8 2005 4runner yesterday. World of difference, better in every single way except exterior looks. At least my 3rd gen was a trash can running on a bad head gasket (2 misfires) for the last 11k miles and I had to keep topping off the oil, and it needed all new suspension, brakes and an engine. Paid 4500 for a pos 98 Paid 4200 for a stupid clean 05 and it's x10 more vehicle Only things I liked better about the 3rd gen was the boxy exterior look and the 4WD lever. I had a blast off roading in it. Very simple and strong southern truck. Drove it up from AL to MI on shitty suspension, brakes and a misfiring engine, then sold it. 315k original miles. Needed too much work. Rear climate control on the 3rd gen comes out from under the front seats btw. Don't try to tow anything with the 3rd gen. Not alot of power. Not even worth trying.

I'm sorry you had to drive that far for a frame. I live in Binghamton NY and then moved to Lexington SC and tried to keep an eye out for a good frame I've been to every pull-a-part from Atlanta to Ohio and I couldn't find a hood scoop nor a rear driver side window until I moved back to Binghamton and found a window at pick-a-part in horseheads, NY and I needed a gas tank strap and I was at Gary's U-pull it and I was taking the strap off and I was like this truck must be from down south because the straps are perfect and like 10seconds later it dawned on me that the frame was perfect and then I started to panic because I knew I had to get this. I was so happy it made me stupid because I didn't know what to do first. Not to mention I only had to remove the body mount bolts and cut off the rear end of it and that was it because the engine was already stripped out of it And got it for $255 not to mention I only had to drive 6 miles and my nephew had a flatbed so we loaded it up on that and drove 6 miles I'm just trying to figure out is it possible to swap the frame without removing the engine from the shell?
@nickschuldt9229
@nickschuldt9229 21 күн бұрын
Ive got a V8 and your video helped me because I have to move the transmission mount but not the motor mounts because the new frame is a 4x4 V6 frame. I'm so glad I don't have to move the mounts.
@nickschuldt9229
@nickschuldt9229 21 күн бұрын
Could you just swap the frame without removing the engine? If you can secure the engine with the shell..?
@NotSoHandyCarGuy
@NotSoHandyCarGuy 15 күн бұрын
Sorry, I’m just seeing your comments! If you have a v6 frame but are swapping the V8 in, you’ll need to move the motor mounts but NOT the transmission mount (I think). You’re in a better position than us in because you can leave that transmission crossmember in place and use that as a measurement to place your motor mounts in their new position. And to answer this question: no you’ll have to remove the engine. It’s a big job, but you’ve got this dude! Just work slowly and methodically through it.
@NotSoHandyCarGuy
@NotSoHandyCarGuy 15 күн бұрын
Also, make sure you take good measurements of your old frame first. Like where the motor mounts are in comparison to the tranny cross member. That way you can weld them into place at the correct distance
