Good points! I do like the styling of the 4th gen best. Ultra reliable. Super usable. Mine is now at 204k miles with no issues ever. Amazing.

Yes it does, although it is not usually very accurate. It is overly optimistic. You will get a more accurate reading my resetting your trip odometer with a full tank, then, when you fill up, dividing your miles by gallons you put in

Just picked up an ‘05 limited 4x4 v6 ! 135k miles paid $10,500. My biggest surprise was the ride, literally like a Cadillac! I wasn’t expecting that. No rust on body, surface rust on frame. Connecticut vehicle so it was taken care of. I’m going to rustproof it for my Michigan winters. I might try to change the hood to one with a scoop, if it fits. I like the TRD Pro grille too but I know that won’t work.

Awesome! That sounds like a decent buy. They really do ride surprisingly well, especially compared to our Xterra that rides on leaf springs

The center diff isn't an open diff, but actually a Torsen. The earlier full time 4WD systems, such as in the LC100, had an open center diff.
@bri13wvu1
@bri13wvu1 2 жыл бұрын
Just want to point out that the AWD applies to the 4.0L V6 as well. It too has a locking center diff. Actually, I believe the V8s were AWD/4WD only. You should lock the center diff if there is slippage, i.e. snow and such, am I right?
@chrisvldz

Yes, only lock in difficult slippage conditions

I have a 2006 that looks exactly like this one (exterior) but mine is a 4.0 v6 with just over 200k miles and runs like brand new it has leather heated seats sunroof it has the option of 4LO 4HI and 2wd it also has the center lock and downhill support button, I am currently working on installing a Tesla style head unit I found on Amazon. Also I want to convert the rear corner mirrors that are in the cargo area into speaker grills that way I can install some tweeters or something. The other upgrades I will be adding are rear bumper sensors, a smart rear view mirror video opens to help reverse OR instead just use the stereo as a reverse aid. I would also like to figure out a way to make my rear tailgate door to open and close by itself with the touch of a button, and while I was at that I would like to find some kinds of hoist to lift my wheelchair into the rear cargo area. I need to change my step bars the ones I got hug the rockers to tight and do not allow assistance for me to step on to enter the vehicle. The other thing I would like to figure out is how to install both heated and cooled seats and maybe in the rear seats as well. I will be adding usb charging ports in the rear passenger area as well. The most important upgrade is that tailgate and the wheelchair hoist, I can’t even begin to explain the pain of having a wheelchair fall out of the back as I open the gate it falls on my foot causing me to break it. I am disabled and my condition is called Osteogenesis Imperfecta. I need to figure out how to change the bulbs in the dash tho they went out not all of them but a fair amount so I can’t see what the display says. If anyone knows how, where or who could help me with this tailgate and wheelchair cargo area situation I would highly appreciate the advice.

Great video! Question for you with a 4wd+v8 combo. Dumbing it down here, but when would use the following combination? H4 + differential unlocked: I know the answer to this one, it's just everyday driving H4 + differential locked L4 + differential unlocked L4 + differential locked Thanks!
@CarnutMM
@CarnutMM Жыл бұрын
H4 and L4 means center diff is locked. Full time 4wd means center diff is not locked and there is slippage between front and rear axles.

In all the vehicles I've owned, I've always had suspension issues long before any powertrain problems (if any!) How has the 4Runner's suspension held up for you? Any repairs needed, or problems you've found? Anything coming loose, or ride changes? Great job!

I have a 2005 4Runner, I got it brand new directly from the dealer and so far is the best vehicle ever, it is pretty stock but I have had no issues of any kind so far, just the regular services at the dealership. About your question, believe me our roads here down in Mexico City are crap, the worst and my suspension stills safe and sound with the original shocks and hitting 210,000 km. So I encourage you to get one! Cheers

I live in Northern CA. My 06 was babied most of its life; a little less since 2012 when I bout it at 167k miles. My XREAS was awesome It cornered very well and remained flat. XREAS system died at about 212K miles. I removed the system installed a more off-road-worthy suspension. (DIY) I love it! P.S. I added a Steel front CBI front bumper and the newer Badlands12k Lbs wench. I had to adjust the spring clip to the third one down to keep the right height level. Technically midsize SUV’s can’t tow more today, depending on definition. Many consider the Dodge Durango/Jeep Grand Cherokee to be midsize, but they don’t have frames. Also the Audi Q7/Porsche Cayenne, but same thing. The FCA/Stellantis twins tow 6200 lbs (V6 2WD/AWD), 7200/7400 lbs (5.7 V8 4WD/2WD), and 8700 lbs (5.7 V8 Tow’N’Go/6.4 V8/6.2 SC V8). The VAG SUVs tow 7700 lbs in most engines (other than the Hybrid Cayenne and 2.0T 4-cyl Q7 I believe).
