To clean the screen, does one simply lift the hood up (the downspout pipe will go through the hood), and remove/clean/replace the screen as needed? I'm sure this is a silly question, but I just want to make sure I'm understanding the maintenance ability ':) thanks!!
@bluebarrel27 күн бұрын
@AprilSigmon - great question. You've got it right. The hood lifts off easily, with the downspout pipe running through it. Then you just lift the screen off, shake it off, and set it back in place. Voila! You can reach our customer service at bluebarrelsystems.com if you have more questions!

Will the valve provide enough pressure to do the job without being raised up more than 20"? I can not raising the barrels up off the ground over 20" will be too tall to catch the water coming off my roof of my chicken run beside the area.

The streamlined drip irrigation filter filters out any fine particles that may clog your irrigation, it also keeps the water on a streamlined course to your drip line. See our Blog here on the Basics of Gravity Fed Drip irrigation - www.bluebarrelsystems.com/blog/gravity-feed-irrigate-rain-barrels/

Hi How are the barrels connected, so thewill all fill and all run back in to the firdst one to run the watering system
@bluebarrel6 ай бұрын
Hi Tonym1408. The barrels are all connected underneath with our trademark under plumbing. The barrels all fill and drain simultaneously acting as one large tank. Not a barrel to barrel overflow. The spigot and drain are attached the under plumbing so you have access to every drop of water. You can see our design in the about section on our website: www.bluebarrelsystems.com

do emitters give their rated gph with a gravity system or is it less? i have a barrel that is 4 ft off the ground and everywhere it feeds is pretty much level but i just wonder what the feed out of a 1 gph dripper would be since that is much less then the pressure of a hose line.
@bluebarrel6 ай бұрын
Your pressure will change as your barrels empty so there is not a consistent gph rating for gravity fed emitters. See this Blog for more on the basics on gravity fed drip irrigation - www.bluebarrelsystems.com/blog/gravity-feed-irrigate-rain-barrels/

You may have enough pressure when your barrels are full but as they empty you will lose pressure. You could consider adding a standard utility pump. 1/2" pex elbow out of bottom of tank to 1/2" clear vinyl tube and you'll see your water level. Run the tube back into your tank if you're worried about critters getting in. Cost is next to nothing, as most people probably have scrap materials sitting around waiting to be used. Otherwise $8 maybe.
@Jess404 Жыл бұрын
How is that clear vinyl tube (and your water quality!) going to look in six months, with a clear tube full of water, outdoors in the sun (whether direct or indirect)? Algae seems like a big reason not to use a sight tube.

Hi there - we do feature the clear tube sight gauge approach on our website as well: www.bluebarrelsystems.com/blog/how-to-measure-water-level-in-your-rain-barrels/. Curious why your barrels are so low? My 200 litre barrels and 1,000 litre square container are ~1.2metres above ground for better flow.
@bluebarrel2 жыл бұрын
Hi there - the higher you elevate your barrels, the more pressure you will get. That said, elevating tanks isn't practical for everybody. Between safety, budget, time/effort, space available, and the need to gravity-flow water into the barrels from above (if filling from rain gutters, which most of our customers do), not everybody has a practical option for elevating a rainwater catchment system. The good news is, a well-designed gravity-fed irrigation system will work with minimal pressure/elevation. At www.bluebarrelsystems.com/, we're happy to help folks with all types of garden needs (and spatial limitations!) successfully irrigation with rainwater + gravity.

I love this....I had a couple of questions. 1. How much would I have to raise the barrels to utilize drip irrigation on a 2ft raised garden bed? And also can I do a the drip along the ground (walkway) and then L connection up to the top of the raised bed? I'm wondering if there will be enough flow. I would ideally like to put 2 systems in my back yard - 1 to water my top garden (3 raised beds) and then 1 on the lower garden to water my veggie garden. 2. I'm wondering though it would be more beneficial to put a 6 barrel system up on the top yard and lead a drip irrigation down (about 3-4ft slope) to my bottom veggie garden - I have 4 x 31" tall vego beds so I'm not sure they would even get watered. 3. Can you add more barrels to your system as you go?, so start with 4 and add more later on? Thank you for creating such a cool product to save water.
