What happens if you have multiple copies of Roaming Throne, like using the helm of hosts to duplicate it while the chosen type of Golem?

What do i think? I think the repeated loss before my 2nd turn is the reason i quit playing.

How often were you facing this deck?
@antitheta77713 сағат бұрын
@attackoncardboard more than half the time. It seemed just like the tibalt's trickery decks where everyone was playing it to get their arena wins quickly

Weird. The card is banned in Best of One standard...
@antitheta77711 сағат бұрын
It is? Must have happened after I quit. Not sure why I didn't see a B&R announcement for it.
“If it's blocking two or more creatures, it assigns its combat damage divided as its controller chooses among them.” So what I’m getting from that part is that if there are multiple attackers and only one blocker, now, instead of that one blocker, just being able to block one creature, they also get to slap the other attacking creatures as they pass by on the way to hit the player. so if there are two 5/5s attacking me, I’m only allowed to choose one of them to physically block with my 7/7. But with the new rule, I don’t have to just shoot that seven power at the one I’m physically blocking the body of. I can shoot five at that one to kill it and then just shoot 2 power over at the other one that’s going to get through and hit me in the face for five damage? Weird. So what if I have a 10/10 blocker instead? Everything else is the same. Two 5/5s are attacking me. My blocker doesn’t have any special text. Just like any normal creature according to the rules, it can only physically block one body from getting through to me, but it’s still allowed to assign lethal damage to both attackers? So then the unblocked 5/5 would not get through to me? Doesn’t this just mean that any single blocker with lethal to take out multiple attackers is pretty much the same as a blocker with special text on the card stating that it is allowed to block multiple attackers? Sorry for the book I just wrote. I’m just trying to make sure I got everything right before I start playing again. Is all of that correct? I would appreciate any feedback.

There are some creatures like Hundred-Handed One, that have an ability that allows them to block multiple creatures. If the blocking creature doesn't have that ability, it can only block a single attacker. Let's say you attack me with 3x 3/3s, if my Hundred-Handed One was monstrous (it's now a 6/8), I could choose to block all 3 of your attackers with that one creature. After blocks are declared and you assign your 9 damage to my blocker, I can then choose to divide my 6 damage up between your 3 creatures in any way I choose.
@slenderfilms13917 сағат бұрын
@ OK so that specific text in the rule was talking about specifically creatures that can block multiple attackers. That makes more sense. Thank you for the clarification.

you actually win the majority of your games in the Meta evaluation, deck building, and random match pairings phases
@attackoncardboard17 сағат бұрын
You literally don't get any prizes for "deck building", you have to sit down and play a game with that deck...
@danacoleman400717 сағат бұрын
@attackoncardboard if you study the game and its history for a while, you'll discover that, very often, my comments above are quite accurate.
@attackoncardboard17 сағат бұрын
I've been playing the game for over 15 years. Preparation can *help* you win games, but I've not been awarded any "wins" while sitting at my kitchen table deck building, nor during "match pairings". You win games by playing the game, where you're often declared the winner during the Combat Phase.

I said 0 but obly bc i thought it entering didnt cause it to create a token bc it had already resolved and entered when you chose the creature type
@attackoncardboardКүн бұрын
Roaming Throne says "AS it enters" not "when", so you choose the creature type after the spell resolves, but before it enters. Similar to Clone. When do you choose what to copy? If it was *when* it entered, it would immediately go to the graveyard for being a 0/0 ;)

I didn’t know you could assign three points of damage to one creature and two to another without killing the first creature. That’s very interesting.

I played the 'new' way since the 90s. No idea blocker order even existed, how would that even work with banding.

Does that mean changelings also aren't shrines?

Correct. They're all of the (300) creature types I listed only.

@attackoncardboard that's kind of funny and sad at the same time Are there any other instances you could think of that would work like that Like possibly making treasure tokens a 1/1 with no creature types

so can you still pump up the attacking creature after defenders have been declared? or do you have to immediatly declare block order?
@attackoncardboard2 күн бұрын
After blocks are declared, there's a round of priority. I just released a step by step guide to the combat phase.
@stephanreiken9912Күн бұрын
You still get to pump up after blocking but damage is just assigned to the blockers after you pump them up. This is how damage worked in the 90s
@attackoncardboardКүн бұрын
@stephanreiken9912 the just chance to have to do anything before damage is dealt is during the round of priority after blocks are declared. As soon as you move to the combat damage step, combat damage is dealt.

I wonder if Shrines as an enchantment type to prevent changlings et al turboing the shrine count mechanic? Can't think of any other reason, given the lack of rules specific to "shrine" (conpared to something like Saga or Case) 🤔
@seandun7083Күн бұрын
It's an enchantment type since all the shrines are enchantments. It's only with Neon Dynasty that we started getting ones that were also creatures.
@imofage39472 күн бұрын
Wood league material. The meta won't allow it to succeed. It's a 2.5 card combo that wins on turn 4 and basically folds to any interaction. Most viable standard decks are running at least 8 pieces of removal to slow down MonoR. What stops it? Instant-speed removal, sorcery-speed removal, targeted discard, flying blockers, counterspells, unsummons, etc. It fails for the same reasons that Slasher combo isn't competitively viable. And that deck is a turn faster.

There is absolutely no good reason why shrine can't ALSO be a creature type. I am convinced that there is someone higher up at WoTC who likes to ensure certain things are wierd and complicated just to mess with people.
@attackoncardboard3 күн бұрын
So can Rooms and Sagas also be creature types?
@christopherealy80253 күн бұрын
@attackoncardboard Both rooms and sagas have specific rules/properties attached to them. Shrine does not. It's just a type associated with enchantments. There is no good reason why a type can't be a creature type AND an enchantment type in certain situations.
@SwedeRacerDC3 күн бұрын
I saw Maskwood in the thumbnail and thought it was going to be a different trick question about what happens when you have the two together? It's the same kind of trick question. However, it is an interesting way to make sure The Roaming Throne can copy Go-Shintai triggers, but to me, that just seems like a big waste of money. But yeah, this is one of those things that I wish magic did better. For instance, the Kamigawa reconfigure cards are templated Artifact Creature - Equipment Rabbit (etc.). It's much easier to tell that equipment is the artifact type, especially because we know about it and because the reconfigure ability makes this even more clear. The enchantment creatures that are shrines could also have a clear creature type. Maybe Shrine Spirit or something to help suggest one subtype relates to enchantment and the other to creature. This of course isn't foolproof as creatures can have multiple types. So something in the rules text to clarify this might be nice either way.
