Real question: will you be getting to put forth opinions on cards in production? Or only cards that currently exist to determine a role in commander? Great to hear you're on there, I was very excited to hear Olivia is back and now I'm even more so! Honestly I'd like WotC to stop making cards for commander (outside of commander products like decks and commander masters). Commander is a format where every card can find a place, and even ones that do not fit well (perhaps because they are too powerful) can be dealt with by focusing on the social aspects of the format (and yes, the rare ban occasionally). Rule 0 exists, power brackets are coming, and pods develop their own tastes and sometimes even rules. All that to say: WotC should just make magic cards, not commander cards, modern cards, or whatever other format becomes popular. Wish you luck mate!

My Commander journey has been one of growth for sure. I used to only play miserable mono blue decks (about 15 years ago 😂) and only care about winning, but my Commander palette has come a long long way since then. I appreciate the clarification on the disparagement clause in the contract. People rightfully freaked out a bit upon hearing that, but even after Gavin clarified things, the more cynical side of the online fanbase just rejected Gavin’s explanation. Getting the additional context of it being more about not disclosing privileged information is more palatable. Sure, it’s still something that could potentially be abused by an overly zealous WotC legal rep and corpo suit, but there’s at least a legitimate possibility that it’s not going to be mishandled. We’ll see how this all goes, and I’m hopeful that we end up in a good place as Commander players. I’d still rather the old RC, but this seems line the best possible outcome of WotC getting the format.

For example, some of us would like to play with our (not all that powerful compared to other legal cards) Library of Alexandria. As long as Timetwister and Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale and Bazaar of Baghdad are Legal (as they should be), then *please* oh *please* free the Library for play in at least the highest-level Tier Play (and/or lower). Congrats! I have two questions if you happen to see this. 1. If you could change/improve the "A Power 4 card in your otherwise 2 deck makes it a 4" system (with understanding rule 0 exists etc) in a way that still has a computational/referenceable output a decklist site could read, how would you do it? (Canadain highlander style points system, it takes 2 cards instead of 1, your deck meets criteria like x cards and a card from these categories etc). 2. Is there any hope of seeing fair(er) unset cards? Katerina of Myras Marvels for example is solid, but poses a unique deckbuilding challenge without being absurd, but is caught in the blanket acorn commanders ban. i have two questions. one for the channel and one rule one - would a mini series of keywords that like to pop up every now & again and maybe giving some neat things that can be done with/for them be a good thing? for example: i didn't know that if something was a "artifakt creature" it would make two check marks for the delirium count - is there a chance that you could suggest making impluse draws consistent to each other? for example: i consider putting "reckless impulse" into a deck but my brain fries every time trying to understand when the cards can't leave the no no zone anymore and i don't know how i could explain it to ma friend group, as most of the time i'm the first that does less conventionnel stuff

Yes, the original Commander Rules Committee has been absorbed by WotC after the last bannings caused Death Threats to be sent to members of the RC. With this new panel, all former RC members were offered a spot.

Hi, I wasn't involved in picking people for the CFP, I'm one of the people that got picked. Subscriber count isn't indicative of what individuals can bring to the panel. Not to mention, out of those who run their channels by themselves, I believe I'm 2nd. On top of that, my channel is the largest MTG one in Australia. I've been playing the game for over 15 years, have worked at LGSs and teach at "learn to play" events. I have contacts at most major LGSs across Australia and New Zealand. I'm also in touch with the majority of Australian and New Zealand MTG content creators. This is of course all on top of my absolute passion for this game, as you can see by this channel. I've been playing Commander since it was called EDH. And while I don't play at a cEDH level, I believe I can speak well for those playing casually and those getting into the game and ensure their voices are heard. So while my subscriber count might not be in the 6 digits, I hope my brief resume and history with the game is enough to justify my place on the panel. Let me know if you have any other questions.

The one thing i still dont hear talk off is, a watchlist for the banlist. I may be foolish but only fools cannot see that insider does happen. The watchlist creates a buffer zone for the extreme swings.

Every person on there is a "name" of some sort though, meaning they are much more enfranchised than even the average store player (or even the average online fan like us viewers of the channel). And don't get me wrong, it's absolutely useful to have people more on the expert side on board in the first place. But how about letting the community have the final decisions about what is allowed in the format/various tiers? They did this way back when with a core set (I think it was 8th Edition), where they let players vote on what made it into the set, after the experts (the designers) made a shortlist. And it ended up being the best-rated set for a good few years (not just compared to other core sets, but of all sets released around that time). Turns out when fans can actively decide what they want in a format, they're happier with that format. Who knew? And sure, it'll still tend towards more enfranchised players who would participate in online voting, but it's still a much wider spectrum of the community than 17 people and their 17 audiences/friends/the smaller number of people they can poll.. If it's meant to be a format for the community, it only makes sense for the community to have a direct and active say, especially when bans/restrictions (such as the tier list for the latter, effectively) are around what the community want to see in games more than simple power level. Even Richard Garfield often says perfect balance is unnecessary to fun (i.e. what players actually want from games).

A question, followed by my opinion on the matter: I know it is probably too early to answer a 'will you BE doing this', but is it possible that this new group will discuss tossing the old RC's overall philosophy and come up with a new, possibly more hands-on, approach to managing the format? I ask because I found the old RC's approach and philosophies to be frustratingly insular and outdated, as well as being inconsistent and often illogical. While I am aware and respect that this format started as a 'kitchen table' format, it has far outgrown those roots and is now the premier format of most LGS game nights, thus many of us play in an 'untrusted' setting and need more 'guard rails' against untrusted players than we do a clean slate to tailor our own experience - I have long felt that the old RC catered too much to this hands-off idea based in a mistaken belief that the format was primarily an 'at home' format even today and that this approach was illogical to begin with as players at home can modify a restrictive rule set far more easily than players at stores can 'build up' a less restrictive one. I would like to see the use of Rule 0 made more optional, rather than being the core balancing philosophy of the format. Thanks for reading this far. A bonus question: the old RC was known for being unapproachable and insular. How will this new group be engaging with the community? Will each member keep individual channels, or will there be a single point of contact for information, news and feedback? I personally would like to SEE and HEAR the new RC talking about issues in a podcast or stream.

Guiding Player philosophy is definately on the cards. But as you said, it's obviously still very early days. While I can't speak for the other panelist and how they want to communicate things, my whole channel is built on breaking things down and explaining them as clearly as possible as well as keeping everyone up to date with any changes that might be happening. So you can expect to see plenty of communications (as and when I'm allowed regarding CFP stuff) from me 😁

I had a very antagonistic relationship with the old RC after being told early on, verbatim, that "EDH is not meant to be played with strangers" when I asked about these issues. You have to understand this is more than a game to me and many others; my entire social circle was forged at EDH tables, including my best friend and my wife - this hobby is more than just a game, it is a vector for meeting and socializing with new people and the possibility of new friendships generated by playing with strangers is hard to understate. These players deserve tools to make these interactions as positive as possible and I genuinely think catering to the 'public' players will benefit the 'private' players just as well. i agree with everything you stand for! i hope we can also share the opinion that the "bracket system" is dumb and completely arbitrary and there was always a system already in place being the rarity of what the card is and if WotC disagrees with where a cards rarity lines up they can reprint it at that rarity and clarify "Card X is X rarity." For example, while Lightning Bolt is legal in pauper, for the system's purposes it's treated as though it is rare as it was printed at rare in Strixhaven.

Rarity doesn't always correspond to power level. Cards can have different power levels in different formats. There is a difference between a mythic rare and a card that should be banned.

Do you not think my reason behind liking the change is valid? In case you missed it, here's exactly what I said: "Overall, I think this is a good change. While the original rule did create some interesting player decisions, it’s another rule that complicates the game in a place where it shouldn’t be complicated." I hope Dockside gets unbanned. I played the card in most cases without any Combos for years. Since my playgroups play more Mid Power, Dockside was never a problem. A friend here in Germany was also pretty surprised like me. Mana Crypt, Sol Ring and Jeweled Lotus are the reason for much more None-Games. I still don't mind them, but what does a Dockside do in an early Game or at Midpower table? Not much. A Dockside early Game creates between 3 or 5 Treasures. Still very good. The named Reason, that Ward Commanders made these cards even worse is so weird. Cards like Woja and Miirym are the problem. What about people who play less powerful and older Commanders? I am still upset because of the banned cards.

Congrats about being part of the commander panel. While i am happy for you, i am also am sad that some of the person listed i dont want to be part of the panel generally some of the previous RC members. Excluding olivia others i really dont want them. But it is what it is. Sad also that some of the person i wanted to be included werent there. Oh well i really hope they would listen to you guys and you would listen to us equally because knowing hasbro they will milk us out until dry as dessert..

Fun fact, I've never sold a single card in my collection. I own every card I've ever had (unless I've lost or given it way). I don't plan to change that at all. I also don't treat this game like a financial investment. It's a collectables game, I like to collect.

As I mentioned in the video, I am getting paid, but as I also mentioned, not enough where I'm relying on this income. I'm fortunate enough to have a decently paying full time job outside of the channel. As I also mentioned, will WotC listen? I'm optimistic, but I'll be calling it out if I think otherwise 🙂

I am going to be honest, I do not like such panels. I don't want to imagine what happens if a member of the panel does somethin controversial. They will also always cause controvery with every change. Some people will say the panel has too little power, others say it has too much or that it should be abolished entirely. Like, I genuinely hope you are prepared for this because you and the other members of this panel will be blamed for every decision by people who don't like that decision, regardless of your actual influence over it.

I've previously worked in Retail/Customer Service, I'm well aware you can't please everyone 😂 The panel could make the best decision for the game, and there will always be a group of people who will be unhappy about it.

You comment this but clearly have no idea about my history. I started playing this game back in 2008, I started playing EDH that same year. I was a respected member of the community at my LGS, where I won Player of the Year. I've then worked at LGSs, where at one store I tripled the Junior player base within a month of having that opportunity. After coming to Australia I've worked at multiple Learn to Play MTG booths around the country as well as running and building the foundations for what is now one of the most popular weekly Commander events in my city. On top of that, I currently run the largest MTG YT channels in Australia and New Zealand. And this is all on top of meeting up with friends at my new LGS and playing Commander. Let me know if there's anything more I can do to qualify myself for this position.

@@collinbeal there's countless ways to stop virtually everything with only minor changes to decks, except with counter spells. counter spells aren't interaction, they prevent action. all other things have countless defenses and work around. counter spells are like admin controls and are cheating only played by psychopaths

@@im7254 Every color has easy ways to play around counterspells. Blue, obviously, has their own counterspells. And plenty of card draw so getting one thing countered isn't even that bad. Red is typically agressive and as such not very vulnerable to countespells. Wow, you spent two cards in hand and paid one life to stop a Monastery Swiftspear! That's such a good deal! White is either agressive or stax, and making the opponent waste counterspells on stax pieces still helps you go for the win more easily later on. Green has Allosaurus Shepherd, Destiny Spinner, Delighted Halfling, Autumn's Veil, Veil of Summer, Gaea's Herald, Insist, Leyline of Lifeforce and Prowling Serpopard. Plenty of options at varying powerlevels that just say no to counterspells. Green also has plenty of card draw to make up for stuff getting countered. Black typically has the most graveyard recursion, so almost all counterspells effectively put the card back in your hand. If counterspells prevent you from playing the game, either your deck is just bad or you're playing it wrong.
