What year F150 lug nut is this?

Yep. That's the point I'm at on my 69 rebuild. Just dropped the front end today. Going to knock the steering loose tomorrow. Then replace all the ball joints and bushings.

"on top" means on top of the spindle as oriented in the video, ie, the inner side of the trailing arm

I have the two original manuals the mechanics used at the dealership, has everything you need to know inside. 74 and 75 supplemental, torque specs, full electric, chassis, and suspension. eBay and in perfect condition! I spend hours reading, may worth a look Jeff.

I had this same problem. Another youtuber mentioned that you can unbolt the axle half part that the flange bolts to, it will support the flange as you press the bearings in and out. This worked like a charm. Also, if you do bend a flange, you can bend it back by putting about 4-5 layers of the u-joint box thin cardboard in the middle (the thin flange area) between the two flange halves. As you tighten the halves together, it will bend the flange back so it will be straight again. This was the only way I could get my bent flange to be straight again and the u-joint loose as it should be. Also I had to pay close attention to clean/sand all the cup mating surfaces (where the cups press into) and clean the retaining ring slots. This could easily eat up a few thousandths.

Just tried this. It didn't work for me. I have original bushings and the car is a 69. The inner bushing slipped through the rubber and so did the lip on the steel bar. I think my cars bushings were just shot that bad on both ends. Thank you for the idea tho. I removed the outer sleeve with your technique and that part worked awesomely. Also the inner bushings stayed on the steel bar which was strange.

Original bushings do 'disintegrate' sometimes leaving you with the metal remains... like the inner bushing sleeve remaining on the torsion bar and/or outer sleeve remaining on the Control Arm. I hate is wasn't as simple as the video for you, but I'm glad the info helped you out partially, nonetheless!

I surprised the outer sleeve didn’t come out as well...as a complete unit. They must have been completely shot.

Are the bushing from your friends at Ecklers Polyurethane or good old rubber?

The ones that fell apart were poly from Ecklers. I replaced with rubber from Zip.

Any useful ideas for removing old cups from the spring?
@c3corvettefixes

I've used a chisel and hammer to "squeeze" the flare inwards, then tapped them out once the flare was unflared enough. I've seen people grind them out and cut them out, but I prefer to collapse the flare then knock them out.

This way is a much easier way and a heckuva lot less stench and mess compared to burning them out! Best of luck to you in your fixins!
