Ball Joint Press Kit and yes, I called the bushings bearings... bad narrator ;)
The Ball Joint Press kit shown is rentable at any of your local auto parts stores (Advance, O'Reillys, AutoZone).
*check each for how many days you can rent before you own it.
It will NOT help you press out the Ball Joints on a C3 Corvette.
It does have the right size "cup" to do the Control Arm Bushing removal though.
Fair warning, this kit is over $200 to rent (you get your money back once returned).
If you do not have a credit card or balance available for rental, you can use a big deep wall socket instead. I do not know the size needed as the largest socket I have is 1 1/4" and it is too small.
Part 2: • 1975 C3 Corvette Upper...
Part 3: • 1975 C3 Corvette Upper...
Prep with lots of PBlaster to ease your pain.
3/8", 24 threads per inch bolt, 2" long used as a knocker to punch out the bushings easy on the upper control arms.
Make sure to bottom the bolt into the torsion arm as not to screw up the threads on the torsion bar.
The outer sleeves on the upper control arms usually come out with a few hammer whacks.
If you hit it sideways like I did on the last one, see Part 2.
For the Lower Control Arms use a 7/16", 20 threads per inch bolt, 2" long to push out the bushings.
Removal of the outer sleeves on the Lower Control Arms is not as easy because the torsion bar remains in the arms until the single hole side (rear) outer sleeve is removed then you can get the torsion bar out of the way for the double hole (front) side, but it's the same principle.
You may have to wedge a common screwdriver into the gap between the outer bushing sleeve and the outside of the Control Arm or directly on the sleeve lip inside the Control Arm and "chisel" it out like I do in Part 2.
Just take your time and inspect what you are doing every few whacks.
