I had overheating issues with my DLE 61 and a fellow modeller mentioned the stock screen size was blocking the airflow. I replaced it with a 1/4" opening screen and that solved the problem immediately.

Hello Richard! It looks really great!!!! Tip about dealing with the round edge using linen; glue the fabric along the center of the curve and shrink the rest with water. The rest will fold over without any creases. try it on a test piece.

Thanks for the tip, I'll give that a go!

Scary covering to use. When i used it for my DVII it took several thinned coats of dope before it became even remotely taught. Worked out very well in the end though.
@richardwylie072 ай бұрын
Yes I actually opted for tautening nitrate dope this time, to get some shrinking on those early coats. Interested to see how it performs.

Those guns are a work of art! They make me feel a little less impressed with my 3/4 scale version on my 80% scale D.VII. Can you explain how the random fire LED works, I would love to add that to mine with a trigger to activate!

Hi there. Thanks for your kind comment. The guns were made for me by a very clever modeller in the USA. I don't know where he got the light flasher. I'll ask him.

Looks amazing. That cowl and louvers take a considerable amount of time. I put a 60cc in my 1/4 scale 😂. D rated the throttle to 50%. Nice to swing a scale(ish) 24" prop. I'm assuming yours will swing a 30" on the reduction? One thing I did is use matte black Rustolium grill paint to spray the engine and muffler. It's rated to 2000° and It hides it nicely behind the screen grill. Just a thought. Keep up the great work!!

Don't you want to do the bottom first for the overlap?
@richardwylie076 ай бұрын
Normally I would, but the scallops are quite tricky. It worked better to fold the fabric over from the top to the bottom first, and then use the flat surface on the bottom of the scallops to lock in the covering.
@flyboywbl6 ай бұрын
@@richardwylie07 ahhhh I gotcha. I folded mine over on the bottom. Secured it from the tip. Then folded the top wing one over the bottom underneath with about a billion slits to get the curves. Handy to be able to pull each little tab of covering super tight and then lock it on with the hot trim sealing iron
@richardwylie076 ай бұрын

@@richardwylie07 lol, and I just bought the 1/3 scale DR.1 🙃
@flyboywbl6 ай бұрын
@@richardwylie07 I like the way you did it though. Will be clean on the bottom covering up all the "snips" in the covering for the scallops. Also, with a gas engine you won't have to worry about much oil seeping in between the layers like on a glow model

The airfoil looked like the "Clark Y".
@richardwylie076 ай бұрын
Yes it isn’t full scale. The real one has ‘under camber’. Very complex given it was only a handful of years after the Wright brothers.
