Andy Gonzalez and his brother Jarry were so far head of their time as progressive musicians; that it was captivating to watch them perform. Andy greatest bass player (salsa or jazz) and Jerry on congas or trumpet.

Hello, My name is Dr. Derrick Colon. Milton Cardona was married to my sister Diane at one time. His sone Milton Jr. is my nephew. I am currently working on a documentary on the latin influence on Hip hop. I was wondering if I could use some of this footage for the documentary. From both parts 1-2. My documentary will not be monetized and it will be on youtube.

God bless Maesto Milton Cardona!!! The world greatly misses him. He was a master percussionist, master vocalist, and master educator. He could sing Do-Wop and R&B harmonies with the best of them in addition to Latin Coro. Of course, gracing a recording with his Santeria rhythms, Batas, and Chants made the session a beautiful sacred hang. His contributions to the music world are immeasurable. Big GRACIAS for the upload. Que En Paz Descanse.

He was all of the above, and as I keep saying, he was also one of the most humble and beautiful people I interviewed. I was lucky to have known about him through my friend and mentor Guido Herrera, of Alma del Barrio. I will post more of his interview in time. Stay tuned.
@CoatiMundiWorld Жыл бұрын
@@politicsofrhythm Yes, humble and beautiful indeed, we did a few sessions together .... another talent was his drawing .... he was constantly sketching out some amazing stuff. OK, I will stay tuned.

EL CANTANTE, the movie, I couldn't even watch that movie. Instead of Héctor Lavoe the singer, the movie was more about Jennifer López, the Hollywood super star. Héctor was reduced to a junkie who couldn't do anything but getting high. I hated it.

1:34-1:42 I feel the same way. Fania and all the greats included in the tours spoiled me. Today's Orquestras hold no interest for me. I listen to my golden oldies and maybe, maybe I'll give something a quick listen but for the most part it doesn't move me or excite me like the old greats.
@politicsofrhythm Жыл бұрын
I think, you are not alone! The Fania era represents the pinnacle of Salsa as we know it today and it must be hard for young musicians to aspire to create something equally exciting, yet novel and original. It's the same with Classical music in my view. The era of geniuses like Beethoven, Mozart, Bach, Haendel, etc. will never be surpassed. But new forms and fusions of old and new music will always occur throughout our history.
@racerx1189 Жыл бұрын
Marc and Jennifer fucked up that movie. They portrayed Hector as an addict alone like their was nothing more to him. The man was an artist of the highest caliber and they treated his music as an afterthought in that horrible film. Shame on them. #QueVivaHectorLavoe #ElCantanteDeLosCantantes

The Peruvians love the Fania All Stars more than anything and the DJs still play the "old stuff" as Maestro Caldona mentioned. They're doing their part to keep those masterpieces alive. Thank God for the Peruvian fans. 🙏🏽✌🏾🇵🇷

And I love the fact that you learnt about your friend's Father through this channel! These are outtakes of material I know I will not use in my documentary. Once I know exactly what I am using and what not, I will release more, so hang tight! René was actually my last interview in NY and I was on my way to JFK, otherwise I would have sat forever and recorded him. He was a such a treasure trove of information and history and a great musician in his own right. Tell your friend she is lucky to have him for a Dad! :)

I' ve always said that Marc Anthony can't sing salsa , and now I hear the great Cardona verifying my theory. However, hats off the the marc Anthony promotion team. They have this El Barrio legend from Metro North projects on top of the music industry for 4 decades. Congrats, marc Anthony.

I think Cardona, by virtue of who he performed with, held a certain standard that would have been hard to match by anyone!
