This is extremely frustrating. I’m chaining an even number, turning, doing a SC in the 4th chain, chaining one, skipping one, chaining one, etc, all the way across - and wind up with one chain at the end rather than two. I’ve tried numerous times. What am I doing wrong?

I have been "crocheting" for about 6 months now and why has no one in any other video or irl explained that I was yarning over not enough and pulling through the wrong stitch? Finally!!! We have a capable teacher here on KZbin.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the first one KZbin showed you is the only one (or even the one who has been there longest).
