I like DKC 3, but my least favorite out of the trilogy. The bonus stages are the strongest aspects of the game. I would've liked it better if Dixie teamed up with Donkey Kong to save Diddy. It's just weird that the title character is only playable in 1 game out of the trilogy.

Found this video recently (probably because I'm a resident DKC3 defender so...yeah it was bound to pop up sooner or later) and it's always great to see that the early internet brainrot of "kIdDy KoNg mAKeS DKC3 BAAAAAAAAAAD" get slowly taken down bit by bit. Just wanted to add a few things as they help fill in some blanks. 1) You reference the N64 and point out that the save cave has mario 64 music and wrinkly plays an N64 sometimes, but that is literally why DKC3 was made the way it was made - the A-team at rareware had to go and get started learning the new console and making games for it. For an example - david wise actually did do a few tracks for DKC3 (mostly the tracks for the save cave) but he was working on "Pro Am 64" which later became Diddy Kong Racing. A lot of the more senior level designers and programmers were already at work on other titles, so new hires to rare were given the development tools for DKC1 and 2 and told to make DKC3. 2) When talking about the GBA, I'm surprised you didn't mention that the new tracks were mostly done by David Wise. At least, I don't think you mentioned it. I hear a lot of people say the GBA version is just "better" because of that, but I think a mix of the two would make the best DKC3 soundtrack. 3) Kinda going back to #1, but I have a theory that DKC3 is the way it is because of who was mentoring and training the younger developers. Think about it - Rare released only 3D adventure and platformer games on the N64, not 2D. ANd outside of platformers and adventure style games, the rest were still 3-D only. The co-workers of the team making DKC3 were busy making DK64, Banjo Kazooie, Blast Corps, Goldeneye 007, and Jet Force Gemini. So as this crew is using the tools and assets to make DKC3, they're probably getting taught on how to do "map" design, or even "world" design. My theory is that the open world map, and even some of the more sprawling levels with multiple paths and options, came from these developers cosntantly hearing about how Mario 64 is going to bea game changer and rare's own internal games are looking wilder and wilder. Overall, I keep going back to the idea that DKC3 is the link that connects the 2-D platformers of the SNES to the 3-D platform/adventure games of the N64. It's not "more DKC2", it's its own unique thing and the game is so much more memorable for it.

In my opinion, this fangame is certainly better than many other ''Mario Maker-like'' out there. The most surprising thing was that the ''original SMBX'' was made by the creator of Terraria himself, before Terraria itself had even been created! Yes, I saw gameplays of this fangame and I can say that it is one of the most customizable there is, and the number of incredible levels in it are countless, there are some that even look like things you would see in an official Nintendo game! I just didn't start creating levels in this game due to the fact that the editor was very confusing (in my opinion, of course, said by a person who made a lot of levels in Super Mario Construct). But seeing people's opinions, I can confirm that yes, if you want a good Mario Maker-like fangame that hasn't been closed to beta for what seems like ETERNITIES (I'm talking about YOU, Mario Multiverse) and for those who don't have the money to play original Mario Maker, or for those who like to modify, customize but the Mario Maker editor is very limited, this is the best option. Well, that's really the only criticism I have about this game (very confusing editor, which takes a while to get used to), otherwise, play it and you won't regret it. (finally a Mario Maker-like fangame that allows you to place custom enemies and tilesets, it took a while for this to exist...) Also, am I the only one who finds gameplays from this fangame satisfactory? The camera following Mario and everything... lol

I always perceived the sports games as taking place at the end of the timeline, basically in a time where the characters are either semi retired or all on good terms with each other *but yet again, there are a lot of things that contradict this, so maybe I'm looking too deeply into it, after this is a series with taking inanimate objects and a lot of nonsensical hoopla*

@ivanzoneBR24
@ivanzoneBR24 2 ай бұрын
Tour Earth is a very fascinating dimension, like I said before I like the human characters of the Camelot games and their story to becoming the best and meeting Mario when they are at their peak. Its interesting that the metods to get to Mario World are very different between games, like in Mario Golf GBC, the characters go by launching from a cannon, in Advance Tour it was a ball of light and in both Mario Tennis games by airplane, it seems the Mario World is very above the Tour Earth, but maybe that place is just the gateway to Mario's main dimension or both dimensions cross when they go fron the ground to sky, its so mysterious. Also it seems over the years the restrictions were loosened, since in Advance Tour when you try your player character try to go with your partner but only the player won all the tourneys, Toad rudely says to "Get rid of your friend" ouch, that might hurt, but in Tennis Power Tour, when the same happens and your partner cries, the Headmaster was able to persuade Toadsworth to get he/she on board for Mario World. Maybe over the years, Mario got so popular that he didnt need to get disguised to this dimension anymore, so now he can go karting in real life-like cities with all their friends. I just hoped that the humans were still around in the games, I blame the Miis for their abscense, they are just the new standard for humans in the games, in a perfect world both of these races could exist in a game, like the beanish and the hoohooligans in Superstar Saga, but alas Mario got generic a lot in the 3ds/Wii U era, so it didnt happen.

Excellent video! It covers many great arguments and gives explanations and points! I'd like to add onto Baby Rosalina, as it's surprisingly one of the biggest arguments against canon in the fandom. The main argument is that she contradicts her story told in the Library in Super Mario Galaxy. But we can logically conclude that this is not true. The main sticking points are 1 - Baby Rosalina has her modern hair color 2- Baby Rosalina has her modern hairstyle 3 - Baby Rosalina has a dress similar to her modern one, and her whole get-up is star-themed 4 - Baby Rosalina has magic, like her adult self 5 - Thematically it ruins her story *Point 1: Baby Rosalina has her modern hair color* Adult Rosalina & Baby Rosalina both have platinum blonde hair. In the storybook, Rosalina's hair is about the same, but it has a pink/red-tint to it. So the lack of pink in her baby hair is a contradiction. I think this is the _only_ valid point against Baby Rosalina. While hair color _can_ change from baby to child, it's a bit odd that her hair changes _back_ when she gets even older. And we know it's not just an artstyle thing, because one of the final pages of the storybook shows Rosalina with a lighter, non-pinkish hair color. Overall, it's not that big of a deal though. Hair Color is sometimes inconsistent in the Mario series, with Daisy's hair switching from brown to a reddish brown from time to time. And furthermore, sometimes adult Rosalina has a bit of that pink tint to her hair. In shaded 2D art, her hair gradient ends with a pinkish tint. *Point 2: Baby Rosalina has her modern hairstyle* I think what people tend to forget is that the storybook is stylized. Rosalina's eyes and facial structure are quite different than they appear on Rosalina's actual character models. I'd argue that her hairstyle is part of this stylization. Most of the time you see Rosalina in the storybook, she's shown from a side-profile. The problem with this, is that if Rosalina had her adult hairstyle, it would cover her eyes in shots where she's facing the right. To prevent this, the storybook has her bangs sweeping above her eyes instead. This is such an incredibly minor change that, even if it's not just for stylization, it's not too crazy that she just parted her bangs separately as a child. And part of this ties into the next point so I'll just move on. *Point 3: Baby Rosalina has a dress similar to her modern one, and her whole get-up is star-themed* Baby Rosalina has a blue, star-themed dress that mirrors the one she has as an adult. But in the storybook, she wears white! Well, I don't think people realize that this same problem applies to both Baby Daisy and Baby Peach. Both characters had classic dresses that look quite different from the dresses they wear now. But the ones they wear as babies are modeled after the modern dresses, not the classic ones. Furthermore, Daisy had a pink crown in her classic design, but her baby form has an orange crown like her modern design. Baby Rosalina wearing a different get-up is not that big a deal. Especially when you consider the context of the storybook. In the storybook, Rosalina is shown to hang out with the Luma at night time, when she'd be wearing a night-gown or pajamas. That's probably what that simple white dress is. It's what she wears to bed. When she leaves with the Luma to find her mother, it's at night. She is clearly not in formal wear throughout the storybook. In one of the last pages, we see her a little bit older, with lighter hair, and a long, blue dress. This is shown after they say that she went back to her home on the comet. She would've been able to change her clothes, and prepare to continue journeying the cosmos. Anyway, what I'm proposing is, Rosalina's blue fancy dress is her formal wear. It's what she'd wear when appearing to the public. So her baby self wearing an actual dress instead of a night-gown makes a lot of sense. Now, what about the fact it's star-themed? For whatever reason, people seem to think that Rosalina didn't have anything to do with stars until she took on her role as mother to the Lumas. But there's no reason this couldn't have been the case beforehand! She's a princess of the Mushroom Kingdom, and the Mushroom Kingdom is heavily associated with stars. Much of its culture is based around stars. So an old generation of the royal family having a star theme isn't out of the question. There's also the fact that Rosalina's father has a telescope that she borrows. She probably likes gazing at the sky, and there's a reason she wants to help the Luma she meets. I also think it's likely that her crown in the storybook is the same crown that she wears as an adult. The storybook is stylized, so leaving out the extra details is a good decision to keep things simple. *Point 4: Baby Rosalina has magic, like her adult self* In the modern day, Rosalina seems to have the power of telekinesis. She can float in the air, levitate nearby objects, and create magical barriers. This is also something she can do as a child, as we see in Dr. Mario World, where she hovers as her idle animation. She also has a mirror based on the wand she has when she's older. Once again, the supposed problem with this is based on assumptions! People assume that Rosalina did not gain these magic powers until she started watching over the Lumas. That she used the power of the stars to gain immortality and float and all that. But there isn't any evidence toward or against this! Ya know who else is a Mushroom Kingdom princess that has magic? Princess Peach! Peach has "wish magic," which allows her to heal others, make people sleepy, and even levitate objects on occasion (when combined with Starlow's star magic, she launches Bowser through the roof of her castle, and even launches a laser beam in Dream Team). Peach can also float in the air briefly, such as in games like SMB2 and SM3DW. So if Peach has inherent magic from being a royal, what's stopping Rosalina from having magic as well? Rosalina's magic isn't even necessarily that much stronger than Peach, and it's quite similar in a number of ways. Baby Rosalina having the ability to float is stupid, but it makes sense when you consider who she is. *Point 5: Thematically it ruins her story* Is the existence of Baby Rosalina stupid? Absolutely. Does it make her story non-canon? No. In fact, I'm not sure why people believe this. I've seen the argument that because she's all happy and hanging out with everyone in karting events, she won't have the same tragic build-up that results in her storybook. But uhh.... she's a baby. She's probably not even gonna remember any of this. Rosalina probably just wanted to hang out with her child self since everyone else in the Mario cast does it. It's not a big deal. Again, is it stupid? Yeah. But it really has no effect on what she will go on to do with her life. I would write a TL;DR, but Idk if that's possible. The basic gist is that the contradictions people think Baby Rosalina has are just based on assumptions or ignore the context of her life and her story. Hair color is really the only sticking point, and even that isn't that big of a deal. They could really just retcon her hair color in the storybook if necessary.

First off, Super Solid Video! Super funny, informative, etc.! I happen to personally disagree with the Marioverse rules of canon, but I do agree with almost everything said here, and I've always been annoyed when people say the sports games are non-canon. Although, a better explaintion for character duplicates could just be double cherries or just clones in general. We've seen examples of this in Gooigi. Also, in terms of the babies; its acutally talked about in a Mario Baseball game that they're there paradoxically. Good work! You're really inspiring me to get on with my own videos!

I personally liked the tone of DKC3; it felt kinda like a Scooby Doo episode. It starts out in a safe space like a vacation and then slowly builds up the tension. It also had a great mix of comedy and scary. The Kongs were also balanced well in this game. Kiddy was designed for offense with his roll attack, holding a barrel like a shield, and ability to stomp more enemies. Dixie was more mobile with her hair twirl and faster acceleration.
