I think these two are interesting, and somewhat doomed. Not in a sense where the two can't be together like Gatsby and Daisy. The two are doomed as for how their relationship is how it is. In different times, perhaps with the two being different people, the two might have a healthier and more loving relationship. However, this is the 1920's, where social classes were important, and to hold that prestige, old families have their children married off as a political and social arrangement, with no room in-between for affections. Tom might have loved her or shown affection/interest in her at some-point, and Daisy was cited via Jordan that "she had never seen a girl so in love with her husband", but that's where the line might end. The two might have affections for each other, and even real love at some point. However, that deteriorated once their marriage was sealed and was cruising along, as the two had an arrangement to be together to hold their families legacies, nothing more and nothing less. So these two then cheat on each other to seek people who'd fill that void, that lack of intimate affection. Tom used Myrtle and Daisy used Gatsby. The two felt something for each other, however that's nothing close to love. Daisy doesn't believe in divorce, that and she's groomed to be married to a man to help her with her finances and living so it's not like she has anywhere else to go. If she's married to someone she's married to them for life. Tom was her for his image and for the sake of holding his families name, as it's considered a dishonor to be married to someone lower than him in social class. The two's affection can be stretched so far the two remain, however the main reasons being? It's for the sake of themselves. It's a selfish love that keeps deteriorating them at their core, and keeps them going at the same time.

I will give the movie one thing: I liked how they made Oak and Bathsheba's interactions feel more intimate, the hand holding at the ricks, the talk in the storm, the ending where she confronts him about leaving, the dance. Although I wanted Gabriel to 'get the girl' in the novel, I always felt their interactions were a little lukewarm, more like a friendship, which I suppose is the point. I mean, lets be honest Gabriel is effectively sidelined throughout the novel, even though he could be perceived as her primary love interest. At least here I felt like there was some chemistry aside from friendship and loyalty, something more.

I think Vera was a woman who was pulled in two directions and made the bad choice to go in the direction of immaturity with Dylan and ended up finally growing up after seeing how wounded her husband was. For the first time in her adult life she was accepting her adult responsibilities as wife and mother.

To be honest, I think that she never spends real love on Gatsby and just want to revenge on his two-timer husband, poor man, Tom was true, she loved him and his money and when Tom promised to treat her better, she left Gatsby without any moment hesitated.
