In Italy also University are free and you have scholarship to pay outside stay and books 📚. It is related to your family income. On the other side we have private universities, but really expensive
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer Жыл бұрын
Here some people may receive a full scholarship, but we really don't have the concept of a "free" college education. I could have also mentioned that we have community colleges that are very affordable and not competitive. Private colleges and universities are usually expensive here as well, but financial aid is a real possibility. Thanks for watching and sharing! (Note: better to use "on the other hand")

Education is free in the schools from grade 1 to 12, in my country, Srilanka.. As for the dress code, boys wear blue shorts and white shirts from grade 1 to 5 and from 5 to 12 they wear white long trousers and white shirts and girls wear all white uniforms from 1 to 12 🤗 When you complete your 12 th grade that you get an exam to face and then you get selected to a university depending on your marks and this exam is called "A level exam" which is a higly competitive one... Thos who get highest marks get selected to do Engineering and medicine and followed by dental studies, veterinary studies, law, finance and etc..at various universities situated around the country... We do have private education schools as well but generall they are expensive but majority select Government schools since they are free and very much affordable to the 90% of the country's total population.. 😯😊 That's it and have a great weekend to you my teacher.. Hugs.xoxoxo Gams ❤️ srilanka

Thanks for watching and commenting. - I like school uniforms, personally. It solves a number of problems. - We have exams here too, but recently during the pandemic, many colleges adopted a "test optional" policy, so students don't have to show their exam scores to get in. - I suppose private schools will always be an option everywhere, right? Have a great week ahead!

I did not realize that there were so many types of schools in the States. The lesson was most enlightening. I particularly enjoyed hearing of the magnet schools. With these ones, pupils will be advised not to enter with anything made of metal! In the UK, things are quite different. One does not graduate. The youngsters are tested on subjects with GCSEs (also known as O levels) and A Levels. An O level stands for ordinary level and an A level is "advanced level." In Scotland, A levels have their own name: Highers. Highers and A levels are the hardest to gain, so many eighteen-year-old students only leave school with a few. Our names for schools also varies. Our government-funded education consists of primary and comprehensive. One begins comprehensive school when he or she is about twelve years of age. Middle schools do not exist in the state sector. To add to the confusion, a public school in the UK is actually a private one! We also have approved schools for the delinquent pupils. In jest, a reprobate may say, "I went to a good school, you know. It must have been; it was approved."
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer Жыл бұрын
First, thank you for being so generous with your support. 🙏 Second, how fascinating to know our systems are so very different! It must be confusing to immigrants to hear about O and A levels. That sounds like blood testing. Ha ha. O+ for example. So "comprehensive" in the UK is kind of like a combination of middle school and high school, right? When I was a kid, we has junior high and high school. Now it's different. At what age do students go off to college? At 18?
@stunninglad1
@stunninglad1 Жыл бұрын
@@Englishwithjennifer Yes, middle school and high school are combined in British state schools. It is a very bad system. However, our O levels and A levels beat your "graduation" diploma. It is better to reel off a host of subjects where one has excelled than to merely graduate. It is too much of a general term. We go to college and university at 18. That is one thing our two countries have in common. Footnote; We can safely say that Metal Mickey did not go to your magnet college. It must be a nightmare eating lunch or playing musical instruments at one of those magnetic colleges. Knives, forks and trumpets would be flying around all over the place. 🧲🗡 🎺🎷

Hi Jennifer, could you figure out this question? Actually it is a song named "speaker box " "Got the whole spot going up like that Laid back hot in the cut like that...." In this sentence "got the whole spot going up" is a phrase?? If it's not,Why was "got+object+ing" used?
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer Жыл бұрын
Without context, I don't know what the singer means by "spot" or "going up." This is hard core slang and not everyone will be able to make sense of the meaning. Maybe it's about getting everyone excited in some way? Everyone in that place? Sometimes straightforward English is the best way to communicate, but this is a song, and songs are creative. Lyrics are personal and artistic. They can up for interpretation.

Hi Jennifer! I have a question regarding present perfect continuous tense. In few textbooks , I saw this tense used with the past participle form of the verb instead of ing form with the verb. E g. Has been placed rather than has been placing. Is it correct to use this tense with past participle? Thanks!
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer Жыл бұрын
Hello. Note that the present perfect progressive uses the -ing (present participle) form: I have been doing this for a while. The present perfect uses the -ed (past participle) form: I have done it many times. There are passive forms: The work has been done. The progressive form is a bit awkward and probably not used much: The work has been being revised. >> I'd likely use the present progressive (is being revised) or simple past (was revised). You can review verb tenses here. kzbin.info/aero/PLF467A1F872AFF222 Here's a lesson on the passive voice. kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4vUmmupeK2Ipqc

Hi Jennifer! I'd like to know some things..Do you have evening shifts in US? Is it possible to study at University or High School after 06:00 pm? Also, do you have high school for older people? For those people who didn't get to complete it when they were younger? Thank you very much.
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer Жыл бұрын
For adults who want to earn their high school diploma (or the equivalent), there's the option to attend classes at a community college. Those classes would likely have an evening option. They wouldn't let a 27-year-old attend high school with teens under 18. For different reasons, some don't finish high school, but they can earn their GED (General Educational Development). One has to pass a test and demonstrate the equivalent knowledge of a high school grad. These days, I'm sure there are online options too.
@prodyutbiswasofficial
@prodyutbiswasofficial 2 ай бұрын
what is the benefit of GED exam? what is the problem of ged exam?
@Englishwithjennifer
@Englishwithjennifer 2 ай бұрын
Adults can earn their GED if they didn't finish high school earlier in their youth. Most jobs require a basic high school education, so if a person doesn't have a high school diploma, the can take the GED exam to prove they have mastered that level of academics.
